This is such a bad faith thread. Continual vague references to health and safety, ignoring the multiple posters pointing out the deep clean. Now referring to an all male directors (which is irrelevant) and ignoring the female director. Insisting the lido could make £250K from fucking kayak lessons? I call bullshit.

I live in Saltdean, I swam in the lido yesterday, I have dogs, I don’t go to the dog swim because I don’t fancy it….see how easy that is?

LilBowWow · 06/08/2024 11:32

The reach was you assuming the previous op was sexist and didn’t want you to worry your pretty little head because you’re unable to fathom that the owners of the business might know a little more about it than you do.

Crazy! So the lido owners don't actually make local residents with dogs march through the streets at gunpoint to take part! Who'd a thunk it

Bags of money in exchange for low risk is a great deal.

50 dogs running off the lead around a lido in an enclosed space - nothing low risk about it. It’s a money grab that is intended to go for as long as they are lucky.

Peonies12 · 06/08/2024 11:36

maybe read it properly? It’s only at the end of season, and surely then pool gets drained and cleaned. Honestly I despair people’s stupidity

sunglassesonthetable · 06/08/2024 11:37

LoremIpsumCici · 06/08/2024 11:26

Ah, well presumption is a step up from assumption.
This is a forum for expressing opinions. You are assuming it’s a great idea. I am presuming it is a risky idea that puts money ahead of health & safety. Nothing I have read has convinced me otherwise.

We have replicated all sorts of wildly popular but very bad ideas.
Humans are known for this as a particular talent of ours.
Currently you can find a few thousand new ones on TikTok which kill off a few people each week.

Presuming you don't run a Lido then.

But I'm sure you'll be looking out for Dog Swim casualties when they occur. Do post when they do. Hopefully they won't be killing off a few people at every event.

Thank goodness for chlorine and draining and cleaning eh.

And all this, including wading through the Lido management details etc because some on the internet took the mick out of your kayak classes idea.

  • I listed the specific health risks upthread with link for reference
  • The deep clean after four weeks of human owners swimming with dogs doesn’t do anything to prevent these health risks to those humans then
  • I originally said mostly male, which was 100% correct and made an self admitted error when wrongly called out for making it up, when it is true and only because I was called “cute” for having a different opinion from the esteemed managers
  • I have not said that the lido could make £250k from kayak lessons- that is bullshit twisting of my actual suggestion

They'll be swimming. Not running.

Do write to the council. So many flagrant breaches.

LoremIpsumCici · 06/08/2024 11:47

Btw, it’s been £250k raised since 2017 as of 2023 (last years event).

Astrabees · 06/08/2024 11:49

I saw this and can’t wait for the opportunity to swim with our next dog in 2025. It is clearly very popular and not inconveniencing anyone who doesn’t want to go.

llamajohn · 06/08/2024 11:50

MogTheMoogle · 06/08/2024 07:58

It looks like they are not running normal sessions...only dog ones.

I assume then it's a little way of keeping it popular, in possibly an otherwise quiet month.

As its only dogs, I presume it coincides with a drain and/or big scrub at the end of the month.

I'm not thrilled with the idea of swimming in a pool alongside multiple dogs, or getting into one after hundreds across a weekend has got in. But if it's been completely cleaned ready for when they reopen for humans, it can't be any dirtier that whatever anyone else has got in.

People are in there as well as dogs.

One lido round her does it for the last ever session, dogs only, then it drained for the winter.

Anyone succumbed to the High Risks yet?

But...this is what Saltdean does? It just allows owners in with their dogs... these are the 'people' you are referring to and why they need to buy a ticket

Only the dog's owners are allowed, and that's only if they want to. They can get a spectator ticket and throw balls to their dog from the side.

This lido DOES do it at the end of the season, and then it IS drained and cleaned.

LilBowWow · 06/08/2024 11:54

Article is from October 2022. Seems their concerns didn’t amount to anything.

Fargo79 · 06/08/2024 11:56

I think Chippy Lido has a dog session at the end of the season before the pool is drained and cleaned. Can't see a massive issue with that. But to have dogs in there shedding massive amounts of fur, drooling everywhere with unclean feet, unclean bums and then open as usual with no cleaning the next day 🤢🤢🤢 Truly disgusting. I'm a dog lover and lifelong owner but that's gross.

That is what Saltdean is doing. It is not open the next day. It is a few weekend sessions before the pool is drained and cleaned..

OP has riled everyone up with misinformation

NoisyDenimShaker · 06/08/2024 12:00

LadyGrinningSoul8517 · 06/08/2024 11:28

No. Dogs are not 'people'.
Same as dogs are not children and don't need to be compared to them in every thread that isn't pro dog.

(Haven't read the full thread so no idea if someone has made the old faithful "I'd rather share with dogs than kids!" comment, but I wouldn't be surprised if they have!).

I think that all sentient beings have personhood, and that personhood isn't limited to homo sapiens. Dogs have feelings and personalities, and they can feel ill and get hurt. And they grieve. Dogs are definitely people. You just think they don't have personhood bc they can't talk. But language is the only thing missing.

Plus, we are actually animals too.

The dogs look really happy at the dog swim and look as if they're enjoying themselves, just like human people do.

JimandPam · 06/08/2024 12:02

Well this is enough to convince me to go!! Wonderful!
