To be sick of outdoorsy men on dating apps

I'm sure they're just trying to seem more interesting/exciting and I can't criticise them for that, but has anyone noticed that 99% of men allegedly climb a mountain every other weekend and are always camping?

I like going on walks, and I have climbed a couple of mountains. I'm a sporty person I guess but I also like just sitting in and watching Netflix!

I don't like camping at all, give me a hotel any day (not saying I'm made of money, it's usually a Travelodge or similar)

It just puts me off a little. I like a balance, but majority of men on there seem to live for the outdoors, and large swathes of them also claim to have been to 50+ countries with only a backpack and staying in various hostels, again not my idea of fun.

That's why they're single. They didn't meet anybody up the mountain.

Someone who rejected me after 2 dates was one of those, on his profile he only had one non-activity picture out of 7.
The other 6 were him hiking, biking, camping, and repeat.

Considering half the women on the Relationships board dating threads are complaining that all the men OLD seem to just want to watch TV, go to the pub, and chill with that special someone, I’m guessing you’re just matching with the wrong people.

FlamingWheelieBinofDespair · 05/08/2024 22:47

They aren’t for you, and you clearly aren’t for them. No-one is unreasonable.

ToBeOrNotToBee · 05/08/2024 22:48

People select the photos that they think make them interesting.
I don't particularly find clinging to a hillside interesting but each to their own.

Well, yes to this, lol!

Mexicocalling · 05/08/2024 22:51

Always seems to be full of hiking photos with a claim to love a “sunday walk followed by a pub roast” 🙄

It seems to have taken over from the “gym mirror selfie” as the must have for men’s OLD profiles!

Epicaricacy · 05/08/2024 22:54

Nothing would put me off faster than the idea of camping, equally as bad as staying home watching tv frankly, so I am obviously not their target audience.

A 50 year old backpacking is a bit sad too, by that age you should have the finances to support a better lifestyle.

Mls1984btc · 05/08/2024 22:54

Love a outdoorsy man - he can go climb his mountain and I can chill and netflix in our own personal time then come back and do couple stuff together.

I hate a limpet who sticks by me all the time. Guess that's my age talking and why I am still single.

JohnTheRevelator · 05/08/2024 22:58

I suppose they think it makes them look more attractive than admitting that what they really like doing is larding around every evening and all weekend watching Netflix, with UberEats on speed dial.

mitogoshi · 05/08/2024 23:00

They all run, climb mountains and like posing in front of cars or with large fish! Don't believe it - most will be chilling out on sofas. Also those photos are probably 10 years old!

Ineedaholidayyyy · 05/08/2024 23:01

They are just trying to show that they keep an active lifestyle, are healthy and have some interests, they probably dont hike a mountain or go camping every weekend in reality. I'd try and look past it, it's quite shallow to judge from a few photos.

MrsToothyBitch · 05/08/2024 23:03

Oh no thanks, I'm only moderately outdoorsy!!

Very sporty types, very outdoorsy types and dog owners were immediately rejected here.

I wouldn't find it sad. I enjoy backpacking more than some other holidays, and not everyone prioritises progressing up the career ladder. I'll never be a high earner, I've stayed in the same job for over a decade. It's a job I love and I'm prepared to accept the low wage for the life satisfaction. It's fine if that's not the lifestyle you aspire to, we're all different, but there's nothing sad about it.

How's picking faults in the most innocuous things going for you, OP?

to be fair, looking at my social media, most of my (fully settled) friends are doing these things pretty much every weekend - male or female 😂

JaceLancs · 05/08/2024 23:17

I would only be interested in a cat loving person who enjoys museums, art galleries, shopping, national trust days out etc
We also need to share views on food, drink, holiday destinations and hot sex
I will probably still be waiting

I wanted to ask her that too but thought it a bit rude.

I don't think it is sad at all. I know quite a lot of 50 year olds (and older, both men & women) who enjoy backpacking because they've turned their back on wasteful consumerist culture. They also enjoy the physical challenge and endurance.

No I actually agree with this, well said. I don’t think it’s bitchy at all.

I am always amused by folk like the OP who are “sick of the same” or “bored of it now”.

I mean, it’s great to be picky. It must be even better to have a profile where you can reject this 90% of outdoorsy people, and still enjoy tons of dates with good looking, interesting men and have your pick of them all.

Am I right, @Latoureiffel123 ?

FlamingWheelieBinofDespair · 06/08/2024 00:25

I think OP should tell us what her dating profile photos are, for balance.

Franjipanl8r · 06/08/2024 00:47

What are your hobbies and interests? Online dating is easy if you have actual hobbies and interests because it narrows down who you search for. If your main interest is watching Netflix then you’re bound to match with a bunch of randoms.

BestZebbie · 06/08/2024 01:16

I wonder what percentage of them used to be an absent husband/father with a biking/endurance running addiction immediately before their divorce? :-/
