To state that, overall, tea is a much superior drink to coffee?

Just back from holiday where I had endless cups of coffee of varying quality and couldn't wait to get back home (Ireland) for a nice cup of tea. I realised that I've never sat in front of a coffee, sipped it and gone "ah, that's a lovely cup of coffee" in the same way I have about tea... I've had nice coffees but not as instantly gratifying as nice tea. I grew up with tea but have jumped on the coffee bandwagon like everyone else so I have an expensive Gaggia in my kitchen and order in my favorite beans but now I'm wondering if I should just go back to the trusty tea bag...

I think, overall, tea is much more refreshing and flavourful and things like scones, sandwiches and cakes taste so much better with tea rather than coffee. AIBU?

You need to get a tassimo machine and make a macchiato. I had one ten years ago and still think about it lol

I suspect tea's much healthier. Unfortunately, I just don't like it. I've always envied people who do like it because it looks like they can drink tea pretty much all day without any problems, whereas with coffee there definitely comes a point where you just feel like you've had enough.

Radarkeigh · 05/08/2024 18:10

Love the tea! You can keep your million varieties of wanky coffee and give me a proper brew any day!

Catza · 05/08/2024 18:11

Personal preference, I suppose. I love both but I only drink Yorkshire tea or Bettys. Always black. Tea in continental Europe is horrid and I travel with my own tea bags, even though I grew up there.

devildeepbluesea · 05/08/2024 18:11

Tea is revolting. HTH.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 05/08/2024 18:11

YANBU.

(I am Irish too.)

Proudbitch · 05/08/2024 18:12

YABVVVVVVVVU

unless you are talking Long Island iced tea. But still, an espresso martini is better

Mapletreelane · 05/08/2024 18:13

Coffee is always such a disappointment. Always smells gorgeous then tastes like an ashtray. Can't believe that people fork out thousands on posh coffee machines, ££££ in coffee shops when all you need is a mug, Yorkshire Tea Bag, a kettle and some milk .

PTSDBarbiegirl · 05/08/2024 18:14

Tea is King.

TooBigForMyBoots · 05/08/2024 18:15

YANBU @Boohbooh. Tea is the best drink in the world. I love it.BrewGrin

Very true. I love my coffee machine, but i only drink 1-2 cups of coffee per day, whereas I have at least 5-6 cups of tea. Tea just reaches parts other beers can't reach. 😉

Agree it has to be Yorkshire Tea. Something to do with the fertility of the soil there, makes for a reight tasty brew.

Flavabobble · 05/08/2024 18:18

I love a cup of tea, refreshing, tasty and satisfying.
But I also want a coffee as my first drink of the day. Planning a cappuccino and slice of toast in the morning.

GeorgeOrwellsTurningGrave · 05/08/2024 18:18

YABVVVU. That is all.

DramaAlpaca · 05/08/2024 18:21

Of course you're right @Boohbooh No doubt about it.

But are you a Barry's or a Lyon's woman, that's the important question if you're Irish.

BashfulClam · 05/08/2024 18:25

Tea is rank, give me coffee.

Jeschara · 05/08/2024 18:26

I love Yorkshire tea. No sugar.

Ponoka7 · 05/08/2024 18:27

I used to drink big standard tea with milk. Then went on to black roobois and fruit tea. But now I like flavoured coffee. Our hotel this year had rubbish coffee machines. It was great being out and finding a decent cup of coffee. I do still drink black roobois for health.

Borborygmus · 05/08/2024 18:28

Yes, tea is vastly superior to coffee.

DanceMumTaxi · 05/08/2024 18:29

Tea all the way!

Taytocrisps · 05/08/2024 18:30

Coffee is infinitely superior to tea - and I say that as an Irish person. Also, it goes much better with chocolate.

70sShmeventies · 05/08/2024 18:36

I just don’t get tea at all. Does nothing for me unless I am recovering from a gastro bug and can’t drink coffee and need the caffeine!

It's imported from India and Africa!

Annanenome · 05/08/2024 18:39

Same as you OP, I became an occasional coffee drinker but tea was and always will be my beverage of choice.

Coffee is just 'too much' for want of a better description. Not remotely refreshing. Feels like having a piece of cake! And there's only so much cake even I can eat 😂

I've recently become intolerant to milk and can't find a good alternative so after 40 odd years of drinking proper tea with milk, I've discovered black rooibos and I love it. (I HATE herbal/fruit teas with a passion). I particularly love Rooibos Earl Grey 👌 bonus Rooibos is caffeine free so I've weaned myself off a bad habit!
