To state that, overall, tea is a much superior drink to coffee?

Just back from holiday where I had endless cups of coffee of varying quality and couldn't wait to get back home (Ireland) for a nice cup of tea. I realised that I've never sat in front of a coffee, sipped it and gone "ah, that's a lovely cup of coffee" in the same way I have about tea... I've had nice coffees but not as instantly gratifying as nice tea. I grew up with tea but have jumped on the coffee bandwagon like everyone else so I have an expensive Gaggia in my kitchen and order in my favorite beans but now I'm wondering if I should just go back to the trusty tea bag...

I think, overall, tea is much more refreshing and flavourful and things like scones, sandwiches and cakes taste so much better with tea rather than coffee. AIBU?

I used to be an avid tea drinker..but since getting our posh wanky coffee machine…the smell of the freshly ground coffee beans, that first sip… I’m afraid tea doesn’t give me that delicious feeling like a good coffee does.

Mind you, I looked forward to that strong cup of tea with sugar the midwife would bring in after giving birth to both my babies. A coffee wouldn’t have been the same.

Edited

Yes! I've given birth and had a few procedures and surgery. Each time it's been the hot sweet cup of tea (with toast) that's been so welcome after!

Those who think tea tastes vile are clearly not making it right 😹
Also, I see your wanky coffee machines and raise you my Sage tea maker, uses leaves not bags.

I think they’re both horrible

Ifitaintgotnoswing · 05/08/2024 21:54

Love the both as long as loose leaf tea or freshly ground beans.
cant abide most teabags or instant coffee.

ThePoshUns · 05/08/2024 21:56

Tea is the best.
I've recently given up coffee , I just went off it and don't miss it.
I could never give up tea.

saltinesandcoffeecups · 05/08/2024 21:59

I’d say if don’t like it you’ve had crap. I’m speaking of both tea and coffee.

Coffee: Anything out of a machine from a pod or packet is just terrible so if you hate that I’m with you. Anything that is an instant (2 exceptions to this) is gross.
A nicely brewed coffee is the best.

Tea: if it comes in a bag it’s likely meh.. so I wouldn’t feel too smug about it. Loose tea is best and I prefer a proper oolong or white.

I’m equal opportunity snobby in my hot beverage taste.

Eta: I think we cross posted @Ifitaintgotnoswing I think we could hang out 🙂

I am shocked. Shocked and appalled that such a grossly misleading OP has been allowed.

Saddened as well.

ThePoshUns · 05/08/2024 22:27

I have reached the point in life where I now take my own teabags on holiday with me

mondaytosunday · 05/08/2024 22:29

Yea tea's great first thing in the morning and with biscuits and some cakes at other times. But after a meal it's coffee for me - never tea.

ForGreyKoala · 05/08/2024 22:30

No, I would take coffee over tea any day. Unfortunately I have gastritis so can't drink much coffee now. 😭I'm in NZ btw, coffee drinking is taken very seriously here.

Lol. I've taken teabags on work trips to China. Chinese colleagues are always horrified. They've become obsessed with coffee drinking too, unfortunately.

They're both equally wonderful. I do have bag tea, but more often loose leaf in a pot. That is a real treat, every time. But my cafetiere black coffee is also fabulous. I change by mood but probably have them about equally. I never have tea abroad, everyone can do nice coffee but it seems no where else can do a good pot of tea.

Edingril · 05/08/2024 22:43

I drink both at different times for different reasons

Clingfilm · 05/08/2024 22:43

Correct, tea 4 lyfe.

cariadlet · 05/08/2024 22:57

My favourite thing about coming home from holiday is always putting the kettle on and making a cup of tea.

I've travelled to many countries, often had great coffee but having given up on finding a decent cup of tea outside the UK.

Ifitaintgotnoswing · 05/08/2024 22:58

I do like oolong, its brilliant if you are feeling a bit crap.
fresh ground coffee with croissants and jam
Black tea with scones jam and cream
espresso after dinner

teabags- its just floor sweepings and instant isnt in fact coffee.

Ifitaintgotnoswing · 05/08/2024 23:04

And as for taking teabags to china…..
Akin to a Chinese person coming to Engand and bringing their own yorkshire puddings with them!!
😱

yabu
depends on the water. where I live tea doesn't taste nice so I switched to coffee.

It depends on the water.
It depends on the milk.
It depends on the cup.
And that's before you get to the actual tea.🤯

I enjoy the odd coffee but a proper cup of tea, however you make it, is a cup of happiness, strength and love.😊

Iamnotalemming · 05/08/2024 23:42

I think there's good tea and bad tea, same for coffee. That said, I didn't really get coffee until I went to Italy for the first time and then wooosh ... Hello real espresso.

For me, breakfast is coffee time, whereas early afternoon is for tea. I don't really drink alcohol anymore so caffeine is all there is!

NashvilleQueen · 06/08/2024 00:20

Coffee is just a drink like other drinks. I have one when I fancy it.

Tea is like water. Elemental.

PointsSouth · 06/08/2024 08:56

Yes, obviously tea is better. In every way. No one likes coffee. They're all beanwashed by the malign influence of the Global Beverage Consumption Complex.

Beware the insidious reach of Big Caffeine.

Drink tea,.be free,

flyinghen · 06/08/2024 09:00

I love coffee and love tea!

thismummydrinksgin · 06/08/2024 09:02

Agreed!!

Davros · 06/08/2024 09:04

@PointsSouth I agree, long live the Tea Liberation Front. Power to the leaf!

AdoraBell · 25/11/2024 20:29

IMO you are sooooo wrong OP I could live on coffee if sleep wasn’t a necessity. That said, if you prefer tea then enjoy your tea.
