To state that, overall, tea is a much superior drink to coffee?

Just back from holiday where I had endless cups of coffee of varying quality and couldn't wait to get back home (Ireland) for a nice cup of tea. I realised that I've never sat in front of a coffee, sipped it and gone "ah, that's a lovely cup of coffee" in the same way I have about tea... I've had nice coffees but not as instantly gratifying as nice tea. I grew up with tea but have jumped on the coffee bandwagon like everyone else so I have an expensive Gaggia in my kitchen and order in my favorite beans but now I'm wondering if I should just go back to the trusty tea bag...

I think, overall, tea is much more refreshing and flavourful and things like scones, sandwiches and cakes taste so much better with tea rather than coffee. AIBU?

I find tea refreshing but not coffee. By far prefer tea!

How can anyone want a “nice cuppa” when it’s 27 degrees?

Not me, prefer a cold drink but my grandmother swore by it (this was in century degree heat in Australia!) 'A nice cup of tea cools you down because it makes you sweat'. Well there is that I suppose! 😂

Boomboomboomboom · 05/08/2024 19:12

Tea is the elixir of life

poetryandwine · 05/08/2024 19:18

I think it depends what you grew up with. So I am a coffee girl.

However since moving to the UK I have developed a love of buttery scones and crumpets, and they require tea!

bluecomputerscreen · 05/08/2024 19:18

yabu
depends on the water. where I live tea doesn't taste nice so I switched to coffee.

NewGreenDuck · 05/08/2024 19:19

I never, ever drink tea. I have an espresso / cappuccino maker, an Italian percolator and a cafetiere. It's coffee all day for me.

80smonster · 05/08/2024 19:20

Navvy brew, gross. Love coffee.

Squirrelsnut · 05/08/2024 19:29

Tea 100%. It's refreshing and delicious. I find coffee a poor substitute.

lalaloopyhead · 05/08/2024 19:29

You can say what you like, but it doesn't make it true 😁
I do like a nice cup of tea, but I mostly drink it in the evening. I sometimes deviate from having a coffee when I go out but I find tea so unsatisfying in comparison.

AllPrincessAnneshorses · 05/08/2024 19:31

YABU because it is purely a matter of personal preference and taste.

LlynTegid · 05/08/2024 19:34

I prefer it, though recognise others prefer coffee. There also has not been the level of upscaling with cafes with tea that there has been with coffee.

Ginkypig · 05/08/2024 19:34

I hate tea!
I love coffee but not all the fancy ones just black coffee with a split of milk.

I know lots of people who love tea and it’s almost what they have exclusively, they might have a coffee in a cafe if they fancy one or in a restaurant if they want one but no mostly unapologetically tea from a bag I. Whatever brand they like best!
I know a few people who loathe coffee.

my opinion is if that’s what you want just do it the whole coffee culture isn’t actually real, most normal people don’t actually care and the ones that do have an opinion I have found are snobby and opinionated in general and this is just another thing they get to comment on.

FastFood · 05/08/2024 19:56

I like tea but I NEED coffee.
There's nothing like a cup of coffee with milk first thing in the morning.
This said, I'm not British.

luckylavender · 05/08/2024 19:57

I'll drink tea if I have to but really coffee all the way

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 05/08/2024 19:58

Coffee is vile and makes people's breath smell rank.

A good cuppa tea is far superior!

BeaRF75 · 05/08/2024 20:00

Totally unreasonable. Tea is just tasteless and undrinkable. Coffee is delicious and essential.

butterpuffed · 05/08/2024 20:02

Tea is absolutely vile . Coffee all the way for me .

BitOutOfPractice · 05/08/2024 20:03

I have never agreed more with anyone OP. That first sip of tea in the morning is absolute gold. Coffee just doesn’t hit that spot.

OneTC · 05/08/2024 20:04

I love both they're just different drinks.

Tea is what I have when I want a hot drink and relax, coffee is more functional, so I drink it in the morning then switch to tea later

DramaAlpaca · 05/08/2024 18:21

Of course you're right @Boohbooh No doubt about it.

But are you a Barry's or a Lyon's woman, that's the important question if you're Irish.

Barry's all the way!

Cherrysoup · 05/08/2024 20:13

You’re wrong, OP, unless it’s Yorkshire tea biscuit flavour, the only tea I will now drink (copious amounts of). I fear I’m an addict, I have a bean to cup coffee machine and use it twice a day.

Hedonism · 05/08/2024 20:19

It's apples and pears, I don't even know why they are in the same category. It's like saying 'do you prefer beer or elderflower cordial?'

(Also tea, all the way).

CoralBlush · 05/08/2024 20:26

I used to be an avid tea drinker..but since getting our posh wanky coffee machine…the smell of the freshly ground coffee beans, that first sip… I’m afraid tea doesn’t give me that delicious feeling like a good coffee does.

Mind you, I looked forward to that strong cup of tea with sugar the midwife would bring in after giving birth to both my babies. A coffee wouldn’t have been the same.

caprisun1 · 05/08/2024 20:26

Like coffee but you’re right that tea just washes cakes, sandwiches and samosas down so well. Try a cup of sweet tea with a pakora - next level . Can’t imagine doing that with coffee.

Bunniemalone · 05/08/2024 20:33

Tea all the way!!! Thompson's Irish Breakfast is the best as far as I'm concerned. If that's not possible Barry's or Bewleys. Coffee just doesn't give the ahhh that's better feeling
