Laundry.
It never fucking ends. It's just the sheer volume of it and the dread at putting it all away once dry.
The thing I'm most looking forward to about one day living on my own, is having only one lot of washing to do.
What about you?

So speaks someone who’s never dealt with a child with ARFID. They can, will and do starve if they don’t get their safe foods.

Strange that this is such a recent diagnosis. It is a VERY rare child who refuses to eat or drink when they are hungry or thirsty. Kids play parents, doctors, social workers, psychiatrists all the time. Same with anorexia. True cases are actually very rare - and often due to attention seeking.

This is actually a really offensive thing to say.

Children and adults die from anorexia. It is a very serious medical condition that has a 10 year mortality rate of almost 10% in the decade following diagnosis. Without appropriate treatment, up to 20% of sufferers may die, as a result of their anorexia nervosa, within 20 years of diagnosis.

This is not attention seeking or simply wanting to be thin. It is a disorder that can kill people.

People may read your post who have loved ones with this disorder, or who have lost loved ones to this disorder, or even who have anorexia nervosa themselves, and your incorrect claims may cause them more pain. You might want to ask for your post to be withdrawn in order to avoid this.

Tell that to my extremely underweight autistic 5 year old with ARFID. He’s non verbal and cannot ‘play’ anything, certainly not ‘psychiatrists’. I’m fairly sure he’s not ‘attention seeking’ 😏.
I tend to find it’s best not to make comments about things you know nothing about. Apart from anything else, it makes you look really stupid.

Don’t you want more than what everyone else has. Ambition to give your children more than you had
What would be the point

I think that despite everyone being able to get what they needed
Certain people would still get ahead because they would choose better things

Don’t you want more than what everyone else has.
Good lord no - why would I want other people to be poorer than me, or why would I want to be richer than other people? What a strange way to think about life - as if the only measure of "a good life" is being richer than those around you.

Ambition to give your children more than you had
Again, no. We live on a finite planet, resources are not unlimited, so it is a nonsense to believe that every generation should have more wealth than the one before. That is impossible.

Certain people would still get ahead
This suggests you see life like a race - with some 'ahead' and some 'behind'. I don't see life like that at all.

People.

All of my (admittedly few) worldly gripes, annoyances and problems are caused by people.

All social media! I would be so much more productive and it would help with FOMO

That's why I don't do social media, causes so many problems and false illusions

I agree; this demonstrates some people's complete lack of understanding re this diagnoses. Applies to other disorders too such as alcoholism. I have heard this being described as 'self inflicted'. Very upsetting for those involved and their families/friends

Arfid isn’t recent, it’s just people are more aware of it, it’s always existed particularly in autistic people.
my child has been diagnosed for 20 years. Hardly recent. And whilst it’s not common, it’s not rare. 3 in every 100 people have it.
its not attention seeking, nor is anorexia. You clearly don’t have a clue what you’re talking about.

Sheri99 · 12/08/2024 05:14

Would like to apologize for being misunderstood and in poorly communicating regarding ARFID (and anorexia for that matter) in previous posts: "children who do NOT have extenuating diagnoses such as autism, cerebral palsy, brain dysfunction, etc or any other host of conditions will often manipulate for attention when they don't like some food. Parents and persons on here who are dealing with such disorders/diseases, my condolences and forgive me for coming across as insensitive.

Scirocco · 12/08/2024 08:29

"I'm sorry you misunderstood me" isn't really an apology.

There is a huge difference between a child having a bit of a protest because they don't like a vegetable, and a child with ARFID being unable to eat anything other than a very narrow repertoire of safe foods. Shockingly, medical professionals can usually tell the difference.
