Riots - where is the army?

WTF is going on!

Police officers are not empowered defend us! They fear they will end up in court like the police officer at Manchester Airport.

The UK is such a soft touch, it’s actually embarrassing! These rioters have no respect for those poor police officers lives so why do we pander to them with plastic shields rather than water cannons!

Realistically prisons are bursting at the seams and these guys will get off free. Meanwhile taxpayers and cash strapped councils will be lumbered with the repair bill.

@ErrolTheDragon

I haven’t mentioned guns once, I mentioned water cannons there are also curfews. Look at what France did

Other posters have mentioned guns.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/08/2024 10:25

How would curfews help at the moment? Many of the riots have been during the day.Confused

Do you seriously not see the difference between a legal protest and thugs throwing bricks and burning down buildings?

The Palestine marches might not be violent, but I'd say the swastikas and Nazi salutes on display by some marchers doesn't make them too far removed from the right wing thugs.

There have been one or two people displaying inappropriate behaviour out of hundreds of thousands of protesters. Their behaviour is nowhere near comparable to setting light to a building with people inside. They also haven't damaged synagogues, Jewish places of business, grabbed Jewish people out of cars, stabbed, attacked or spat on them. There is no comparison.

Ben Jamal, director of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC), which coordinated Saturday’s march, accepted that some placards were antisemitic, but hailed the protest as “overwhelmingly peaceful” and blamed “pro-Israel actors” for deliberately seeking out examples of antisemitism.

Oh please, one or two?!

Yes they have! Including trying to kidnap a Jewish man and drag him into a car in the middle of London.

You only see what you want to see clearly.

cupcaske123 · 05/08/2024 10:51

Could you highlight where, in the article, the marchers were attacking people? According to a witness there were approximately 800, 000 people and a handful of inappropriate banners. Are you seriously comparing a banner with setting light to a building with people inside, attacking a mosque with terrified inhabitants and stabbing someone?

‘Inappropriate’? Interesting - if it was related to any other group I imagine you would’ve used the word ‘racist’ or ‘hateful’.

Can you point out where there has been similar levels of violence committed by the pro Palestinian protesters? Much appreciated.

Simply put, the UK cannot, not enough Army personal now.

UK infantry is around 23k and they aren't all sitting around doing nothing.

The Police "should" be able to handle this but we keep voting for more and more Austerity and that means less of everything inc Police and Infantry.

Anyway, chances are most soldiers will agree with the far right.

Slotis · 04/08/2024 22:32

The police need more power. Take their numbers of their helmets for start. Make them as unrecognisable as the masked rioters. Why we don’t have water cannons I don’t know. Nobody likes getting drenched. Where is that wanker Robinson at the moment? He needs arresting for incitement as does anyone sharing his content. This country is full of thick cunts.

Edited

Hide their numbers like they did during the Miners Strike? Making them unidentifiable and therefore unaccountable?

I don't think so.

Bringing the army in would also be ridiculous, people don't forget that sort of thing - go ask the people of Tonypandy what they think of Winston Churchill - and might escalate the situation.

Yaxley-Lennon does, of course, need arresting, but the cowardly little shit left the country.

Whammyammy · 05/08/2024 12:55

Bring in the Army 🤣. All of the UK military is under manned and not trained for policing protests, that's a role of the police to police.

Katemax82 · 05/08/2024 12:57

What army? There's probably not enough troops

Katemax82 · 05/08/2024 12:58

They could always chuck my friends scumbag ex husband who's in the army in the middle of a massive riot and let him deal with it

ZoeCM · 05/08/2024 13:10

Greentreesandbushes · 04/08/2024 22:33

Calm down. The police are no where near calling in the army. They have plans, people etc social media and reporting are making this sound worse than it is

I really don't think it's being made to sound worse than it is. They've set fire to cars and thrown rocks at the police, FFS.

OneTC · 05/08/2024 13:13

People calling for water cannons have clearly never been to a protest with one. They'd be a draw on a hot day

If water cannons are super effective then why do the countries that use them see much more frequent, much more violent protests?

Not forgetting after last week's sunshine there is probably a hose pipe ban due. Followed by a post on mumsnet saying how disgusting it is to use water cannons during said ban.
