WTF is going on!

Police officers are not empowered defend us! They fear they will end up in court like the police officer at Manchester Airport.

The UK is such a soft touch, it’s actually embarrassing! These rioters have no respect for those poor police officers lives so why do we pander to them with plastic shields rather than water cannons!

Realistically prisons are bursting at the seams and these guys will get off free. Meanwhile taxpayers and cash strapped councils will be lumbered with the repair bill.

Can't imagine the police actually using guns on the rioters if they had them.

Funny how the army aren't able or allowed to control civil unrest in England; the largest country in the UK! I don't buy that one iota.

It would probably be better to address the root of the problem - i.e what is turning these people into 'violent fucktards', because they aren't born like that and if we don't, the ones we lock up will just be replaced by others.

The Sheffield protest was a joke, only 10 of the scum turned up & the ringleader got his head knocked off when someone from the other side punched him in the face, he was arrested & taken away, the other 9 ran away.

The thing, the very obvious thing, is that the police did control it otherwise there'd still be escalating riots.

So no need to 'call in' the Army although I'm sure there's some Red Button protocol for the Armed Services to step in if the People were truly Revolting.

Aren't they? People - mainly men - have been indulging in violent thuggery since time immemorial for some reason or pretty much none eg football hooliganism. It's basic tribalism, but now being orchestrated.

There was a list of planned 'riots' circulating online so that the thugs knew where to get the bus to.

Those plans were for this weekend, not for into next week.

Lancaster was predictable...whoever thought that was a likely place for a right wing riot can't have been local.

Well I hope MPs realise they need to stop fuelling hatred in attempt to cover up their wrongdoings as there are many ignorant people who will believe them. They caused the cost of living crisis whilst many of them claimed all sorts of lavish expenses, dodging taxes and partying during lockdown. Where were the rioters then? The mainstream media has had a massive part in this.
I hope the good thing to come out of this is that they realise how important public spending is, cuts here and there, well let them find money for policing now! Noone I know has faith in the police, they know there is no point even calling them because they will show up too late and there won’t be any consequences for the criminals even if they do. They need to give police more powers not bring in the army imo.

The weather is turning and it’s petering out. I don’t think we are at an army involvement level. Let the police do their job and maybe the media could stop sensationalising it. The mob gets out of hand every few years, usually coinciding with a hot spell. The pressure is released and life goes on. Guns and boots will only inflame things and make it harder for the police to control and locate ringleaders.

Quite so, and posters on mn will hopefully stop sensationalising too. This thread...ffs of course dealing with the riots is a job for the police, and guns would be completely inappropriate.

You don't use the army against your own people. Once you start doing that, you start seeing your own citizens as the enemy.

And that way leads to racism, authoritarianism, and dictatorships. You want democracy to die, then send in the army against your own people.

The military exists to kill people. By all means use the army for reconstruction after natural disasters, manpower etc. but the moment you send them into a combat role, you're giving tacit approval to kill your own citizens.

i know quite a few coppers. Many say that if the police were armed, they’d leave the job. They didn’t join in order to shoot people.

Also they know how an arms race works. If the good guys carry guns, the bad guys get guns.
