Riots - where is the army?

WTF is going on!

Police officers are not empowered defend us! They fear they will end up in court like the police officer at Manchester Airport.

The UK is such a soft touch, it’s actually embarrassing! These rioters have no respect for those poor police officers lives so why do we pander to them with plastic shields rather than water cannons!

Realistically prisons are bursting at the seams and these guys will get off free. Meanwhile taxpayers and cash strapped councils will be lumbered with the repair bill.

Now the Ethno nationalists who are nazi scum are involved, it will all stop now.

The organised resistance,
The farage and Tommy Robinson supporters, as well as the football thugs will be done with this now that the Nazi’s are involved.
Lots and lots of ‘events’ now cancelled

Who are the Ethno nationalists?

The Sheffield protest was a joke, only 10 of the scum turned up & the ringleader got his head knocked off when someone from the other side punched him in the face, he was arrested & taken away, the other 9 ran away.

The focus of attention was a few miles down the road in Rotherham...

mollyfolk · 05/08/2024 02:06

So people who want guns and an armed police force? What do do you want them to do? The army are trained to fight combatants.

when you bring arms to a situation like this how do you decide who to shoot? How you do you decide what is a riot and what is protest when there is likely a mix of both. I do not agree at all with the rioters but it is a time for calm not time to inflame the situation with more violence.
Does anyone remember Bloody Sunday out of interest?

No we don't.Hmm

Yes we do

There's no money in the police pocket to deal with basics let alone this every weekend!

Meadowfinch · 05/08/2024 06:11

'They need to arm the police with guns, it’s just ridiculous.'

Because of course, that will help !! 🙄 Talk about fanning the flames.

Do you have any clue of the processes related to police firearms use? The rules of deployment? Clearly not.

Do you think any trained firearms officer would even consider taking a shot in a writhing melee of 300 people.

Don't be absurd.

So you say the prisons are overcrowded and the rioters will get off free…are you suggesting….the army guys kill them?

Edited

Well, shoot a few and it'll be a message to the rest.

What message would that be?

Chester23 · 05/08/2024 07:15

I think our police in hull did a brilliant job. Every time the pushed forward the thugs retreated. Unfortunately they can't be everywhere, especially when all the streets intersect. The reason the looted shies zone, o2 and lush is because they were pushed back to that area. It would have been too dangerous for the police to go further in my opinion or they would have been open on all sides. This is the same with the fires, they did it because the police weren't there. As soon as they turned up the thugs backed off.

I do wish they would have had more than pepper spray. I saw a live in Rotherham of the idiots trying to throw fireworks, luckily they went off in the crowd not ay the police. As for setting fire to the hotel this is disgusting

CurlewKate · 05/08/2024 07:16

@5431go "They need to arm the police with guns,"

Just to be clear-you want the police to open fire on the rioters?

Rowgtfc72 · 05/08/2024 07:24

Starmer has called a cobra meeting this morning.

Flibflobflibflob · 05/08/2024 07:30

I don’t think army or police officers to become militarised is a good thing tbh. I do think we have to build more prisons and really crack down on law and order generally. We shouldn’t be having riots and machete fights in the street. I know singapore is extremely authoritarian but it’s also safe and it’s starting to look quite appealing. If you can’t behave well in society you should be removed from it for the sake of other people. That prick who slashed a woman with a knife for turning him down got a suspended sentence. I mean no wonder theres fucking chaos, there are no real consequences.

This is the problem. The justice system is broken and the criminals know that. Hardly any of these will end up in prison despite the tough words.

ADHDHDHDHD · 05/08/2024 07:41

It just needs to rain. There's never rioting when it's raining.

Police in England can't use rubber bullets or water cannons. Would need an act of parliament to enable that. Plus they don't have any!

Needs to be a curfew for men not being out after 6pm.

BobnLen · 05/08/2024 07:46

Boris Johnson was the only one who would have used water cannons but unfortunately bought ones that were no good so nothing more has ever been done about it. They were apparently illegal.

Rummly · 05/08/2024 07:46

MrsSkylerWhite · 04/08/2024 23:35

Though it’s not widely known, many are being deployed to the Middle East.

Do you mean the army and RAF rather than the navy? Very recently deployed?

If so, how do you know this? And where in the Middle East are they being sent?

I’m not doubting you. I just think that’s an incredibly important comment.

Yes but they are responsible for inviting the neo-Nazis out of hiding and into plain sight. Farage and Robinson need to be held accountable for stoking the fire, it doesn't matter if they step back now.

They started it so they need hauling over the coals for it now. They have released right wing terrorism onto their 'own country' . One's fucked off to Corfu & the other is releasing tiktok videos about his new Adidas trainers.

Kebarbra · 05/08/2024 07:59

They need to arm the police with guns, it’s just ridiculous.'

There will be armed police as part of the response, no way should every police officer be armed though. The military (not just Army) would backfill police duties to release more police, not be on the streets at the scene (even though they do have civil disturbance training).

L1ttledrummergirl · 05/08/2024 08:02

There is no need for that army at this point.
A few thugs and idiots playing the hard man are not a threat to the country.

Fascism tries to win through fear, and they can shove that up their pathetic arses. The police can and will handle it, it's their job.

The military has no place on the streets controlling mob violence. They are not trained for it, and frankly the optics of having the military engaging against their own citizens will be awful. Look at Wales in the early part of the 20th century as an example.

MillshakePickle · 05/08/2024 08:08

ErrolTheDragon · 04/08/2024 23:44

America with its 'gun culture' isn't something many British people want to emulate.

It can be done better. Look at Canada. I've lived there as well. Police carry guns, and it isn't anything like the states.

We have much, much, much stricter gun control in the UK and Europe than America. The results wouldn't be the same as well as many less guns per capita in the general population.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 05/08/2024 08:08

So NOW we're angry about riots? Not when a bus was set on fire in Leeds with passengers on it or when mobs have surrounded police vans and stations to force them to let arrested thugs walk free. I sometimes wonder if it's all just virtue-signalling. I also wonder if the weekend's destructive, rampaging thugs thought they'd be left to carry on because the destructive, rampaging thugs of ye week before and the week before that and so on were. We shouldn't have 2-tier policing, we should only have the 1-tier we've just seen.

I think Starmer has really inflamed the situation as well. His response to rioters are so polarised - for some he understands their anger, for others he squawks about cracking down. But they're both mindless, destructive riots just the same.

I also don't want us to be managed out of productive anger. Starmer (as well as previous governments) should be doing something about knife crime but he couldn't because it's too political even though he's an actual politician. He's inflaming the situation. We need to channel our anger into forcing him to crack down hard on knives. It's like everyone has forgotten about what happened in Southport last Monday.
