Current riots

Sorry this is probably the millionth thread about this and apologies for posting on aibu but here are my questions about this riot and feel free to widen my horizon:

  1. Why has the tabloids suddenly taken a turn in their reporting? Didn't they encourage this situation from the start and in general creating division and hatred on a daily basis up until now?

  2. Why are they reporting these people as thugs and mobs now after publishing daily hatred to stir things up and that has prepared and encouraged them for what's happening today? Are the editors now scared that they will be held accountable if they continued stirring?

  3. Why are our politicians silent about this (apologies if they have condemned it, I don't use x/twitter) particularly the ones like Suella and Priti Patel and Nigel Farage who have actively worked hand in hand to create this situation again a bit like show. Create a scenario, rehearse with them, dress them up for their roles and put them on stage and suddenly back off once the lights come on and the show starts. Shouldn't the directors of this show which are of course the tabloid editors and our politicians be held accountable for this shit show?

There are plenty more things I want to add but cannot process it right now but I hope this thread creates a civilised discussion. I will probably dip in and out as I finish tending to my lo's needs, so please don't think Ive left the discussion. Btw, I am so ashamed of these people, so ashamed to call myself British.

This has nothing to do with the killings of the 3 innocent girls. This is mostly people we see out and about who are projecting their life failures living as rejects in our society that have been failed by austerity, poverty, addictions, generational trauma and lack of opportunities. As a non white British person, I believe these people weren't racist, they became racist by our leaders and media and they were used by them for their own agenda.

I fear for myself, my children and many others who are in the same situation scared to go out who are law abiding citizens. I can see the bigger picture and I know it's not going to work on what they have actively worked on to create division.

The issue with the thuggery is that the underlying arguments are ignored. Plenty of peaceful and law abiding people are extremely concerned about unfettered immigration. Concerns have been dismissed for decades now and civil unrest starts.

Starmer is weak and pathetic. We need to stop the riots and restore peace. But we need to listen and act to reduce immigration that isn’t from genuine refugees.

Only groups doing anything is the police - feel like Kier has left them to it

Summerpigeon · 06/08/2024 07:11

I don't understand it at all ,and I'm ashamed of being British to.
I think they are using 3little girls deaths as an excuse to riot , because to behave like that comes naturally to them

You are right, it has nothing to do with the terrible events in Stockport.
Where were the rioters when a white ex army man slaughtered a mum and her 2 daughters recently with a cross bow?

Southport is 50 miles away from Stockport

Mrsdyna · 06/08/2024 07:18

You can tell that people here have not been watching live feed. You are deluded. I can't comment further because if I post what I've actually seen, my comment will get deleted again because it doesn't fit the narrative.

I don't think mass press coverage is a good thing. It's encouraging it. This feels like it's being whipped up. It also feels like the 'anti-Muslim' element to this is being manufactured and encouraged. To what end I'm not sure - perhaps it weakens the pro Palestinian protests. Perhaps it's just racism. Either way the press has been irresponsible in stirring up anti migrant sentiment and irresponsible in giving so much airtime to the 'protests'.

Kebarbra · 06/08/2024 07:20

To be honest I thought 2 tier policing was a conspiracy peddled by the likes of TR to whip up anger, but after last night I think it is true and it's shocking.

Left them too it? he has backed them 100%, opened up court capacity too.

Ultimately though, he cannot make good the 20k cuts in police numbers in 4 weeks can he?

I'm shocked at the very low numbers of Police left to deal with these rioters, shameful the Tories cut so many front line officers, at best replacing them with the useless PCSO's.

Pity the picture isn’t included here. You know nothing of this child or his parents. I see a happy little boy waving a couple of flags of his own country sitting on his Dad’s shoulders. Your comments are pure and simple prejudice.

I take it you didn't notice his hands/fingers then, @GrannyRose15?

🙄

The kid in the picture has his middle fingers up on both hands... not happy excited waving!

Good Lord. Imagine modelling behaviour like that to your kids. With parents like these they don't have a hope.

MNHQ only deletes things which break their guidelines. Posting comments that offer an alternative but truthful narrative won't.

That's clearly not true because what I posted was factual and it was deleted.

You sound like a robot.

Nope, not a bot. Long time member of MN who has lots of experience of MNHQ's moderation. Why so rude?

You sound like a robot.

Maybe its stuff like this which got your post deleted?

Not exactly respectful and sailing close to being a personal attack

You can email MNHQ and ask why your post was deleted

That is such a nasty post.

So a small child is waving flags for England and the UK - do you know why he is excited and waving flags.
Since when does waving the country's flags mark him out as 'far right'.

Can you actually see what that child is round in the picture?

No? I didn't think so. Fact Resistant!Hmm

MissMoneyFairy · 06/08/2024 11:51

I thought this was supposed to be a thread about the riots, not pointless bickering between posters.

What about Bolton? Keir keeps mentioning right wing thuggery, I wonder if he will talk about pockets of this happening like in Blackburn as well or will it continue to be two tier policing.

Two tier policing? From what Incan see riot police separated the 2 groups. RIOT police. What’s 2 tier about that?
it’s not ‘2 tier’ because it’s mostly white men being arrested, mostly white men are being arrested because they’re the ones setting fires, looting, getting pissed up and attacking mosques or places where they think non-white people might be, and screaming racial slurs.
All of which is illegal.
Go on a peaceful demo and tij’ll
mostly be left alone.

Paul2023 · 06/08/2024 15:03

There’s already existing laws for violent protests and looting.

But I’m uncomfortable with the word terrorism. I think it makes a mockery of actual terrorism offences;

IDK think that attempting to burn down a hotel incl blocking exits with 274 men women children and staff inside comes pretty close?

Unfortunately for you and others like you this particular so called dog whistle has been proved by the police in a very short space of time. We have had riots in Leeds and protests in Manchester as well as marches in support of Palestine all met by a soft or non existent response by the police and a call for talks with community leaders. The police have only come down hard on the so called right wing demonstrators. Police should act without fear or favour. They quite evidently do not.

Well I wasn't aware the pro Palestine marches always end up in looting, setting buildings on fire ( with adults and children inside), physically assaulting POPs, dragging them out of cars and throwing missiles at the police. Funny that, because I am one of those who march ( white/working class and a woman to boot) and I haven't seen any of that. I must lose my sight and become hard of hearing every time I attend a march. Must see my GP.
Maybe the police doesn't come down hard on them because they, unlike the Far right, do not commit criminal offenses. By the way, these are not demonstrations; they are riots.
