Current riots

Sorry this is probably the millionth thread about this and apologies for posting on aibu but here are my questions about this riot and feel free to widen my horizon:

  1. Why has the tabloids suddenly taken a turn in their reporting? Didn't they encourage this situation from the start and in general creating division and hatred on a daily basis up until now?

  2. Why are they reporting these people as thugs and mobs now after publishing daily hatred to stir things up and that has prepared and encouraged them for what's happening today? Are the editors now scared that they will be held accountable if they continued stirring?

  3. Why are our politicians silent about this (apologies if they have condemned it, I don't use x/twitter) particularly the ones like Suella and Priti Patel and Nigel Farage who have actively worked hand in hand to create this situation again a bit like show. Create a scenario, rehearse with them, dress them up for their roles and put them on stage and suddenly back off once the lights come on and the show starts. Shouldn't the directors of this show which are of course the tabloid editors and our politicians be held accountable for this shit show?

There are plenty more things I want to add but cannot process it right now but I hope this thread creates a civilised discussion. I will probably dip in and out as I finish tending to my lo's needs, so please don't think Ive left the discussion. Btw, I am so ashamed of these people, so ashamed to call myself British.

This has nothing to do with the killings of the 3 innocent girls. This is mostly people we see out and about who are projecting their life failures living as rejects in our society that have been failed by austerity, poverty, addictions, generational trauma and lack of opportunities. As a non white British person, I believe these people weren't racist, they became racist by our leaders and media and they were used by them for their own agenda.

I fear for myself, my children and many others who are in the same situation scared to go out who are law abiding citizens. I can see the bigger picture and I know it's not going to work on what they have actively worked on to create division.

Give up the two tier policing crap! Elon Musk has a big enough mouth and ££billions to spread his conspiracy theory nonsense. He doesn't need any help from mumsnet members who need to sit in a dark room and get educated.

'Technically against the law' to damage statues. If they didn't like them they should lobby their MP to try to get them removed not take the law into their own hands. When people do that we cease to be a democracy. What about the Gaza demonstrators who defaced war memorials? I suppose you think that's ok too? I simply want ALL people who damage public or private property of others to be treated equally. That includes right wing and left wing white/black/brown people too as well as religious groups as well as those with no religion. It's the unequal treatment by the police at the base of these riots. I'm very pleased that finally the JSO protesters got prison sentences after 2 years of the police turning a blind eye to their antics.

I meant they had clearly committed a crime in the sense that damaging public property is against the law and they were seen damaging public property. However, it is the right of a jury, even where there is clear evidence that someone has broken the law as it is written, to find someone innocent. That is a really key part of the justice system and the history of British democracy.

The jury in that one sense is more powerful than the police, the judge himself or the government writing the laws (only that one sense). There are reasons for this. In the UK it arguably goes back to the Magna Carta or even earlier, but it really became enshrined in law thanks to the Bushel's Case - Wikipedia

The legal protections we have in this country were hard fought for, often by people who were strangers to each other. They are worth more than statues. But even if you disagree, it was not the police's fault.
