Current riots

Sorry this is probably the millionth thread about this and apologies for posting on aibu but here are my questions about this riot and feel free to widen my horizon:

  1. Why has the tabloids suddenly taken a turn in their reporting? Didn't they encourage this situation from the start and in general creating division and hatred on a daily basis up until now?

  2. Why are they reporting these people as thugs and mobs now after publishing daily hatred to stir things up and that has prepared and encouraged them for what's happening today? Are the editors now scared that they will be held accountable if they continued stirring?

  3. Why are our politicians silent about this (apologies if they have condemned it, I don't use x/twitter) particularly the ones like Suella and Priti Patel and Nigel Farage who have actively worked hand in hand to create this situation again a bit like show. Create a scenario, rehearse with them, dress them up for their roles and put them on stage and suddenly back off once the lights come on and the show starts. Shouldn't the directors of this show which are of course the tabloid editors and our politicians be held accountable for this shit show?

There are plenty more things I want to add but cannot process it right now but I hope this thread creates a civilised discussion. I will probably dip in and out as I finish tending to my lo's needs, so please don't think Ive left the discussion. Btw, I am so ashamed of these people, so ashamed to call myself British.

This has nothing to do with the killings of the 3 innocent girls. This is mostly people we see out and about who are projecting their life failures living as rejects in our society that have been failed by austerity, poverty, addictions, generational trauma and lack of opportunities. As a non white British person, I believe these people weren't racist, they became racist by our leaders and media and they were used by them for their own agenda.

I fear for myself, my children and many others who are in the same situation scared to go out who are law abiding citizens. I can see the bigger picture and I know it's not going to work on what they have actively worked on to create division.

1 and 2 - they stirred things up because they thought that would mean they could sell more papers. Now they don’t want to lose readers. Newspapers exist to make money.

3 - They don’t want to alieniate potential
voters or link themsleves to the riots

Some of those comments are brilliant! 'booked her to move a couch but she sent it to Rwanda'

Ah! this is the woman who didn't answer her door to the police [must be a mumsnetter] so they kicked it in, completely wrecking the door- it's all over twitter too

Karma

I have watched that video a few times. So satisfying. Stupid woman has let her hatred ruin her life and her business.

Where do you think religion of peace is on the political spectrum out if curiosity?

I may be wrong but I think Muslims, like all of us, vote for a range of different parties.

TooBigForMyBoots · 04/08/2024 20:35

“Religion of peace” claxon

Anyone carrying weapons, and bringing violent disorder to the streets needs to be dealt with by the law.

Given the circumstances, your attitude and the fact that you are brand new this evening to MN, I am not engaging.

needhelpwiththisplease · 04/08/2024 20:39

Bored, unintelligent racist thugs who think looting and violence will change things.
You really can't argue with stupid people

Pity none of it is true.

I went to school with them.

I had to work with them.

I had to walk along the road with my friends with them yelling at me/us from vans (and running away when they'd pull over).

I had men ask me out and then follow up with 'Can I ask you a question? Have you ever, or would you ever go out with a ......?'

A couple of drinks in and some of the nastiest stuff would come out of the mouths of people that didn't give that impression at all until they felt secure. It took an ex three solid months before he and his father went into one at Sunday lunch about a house on the avenue being sold to .... which meant the prices would collapse and everybody would have to reinforce the fencing if they had a daughter at home.

I'd walk along the road to meet my friends and there was NF scrawled on surfaces, followed by BNP in later years, followed by EDL. I turned down a perfect local authority property on the sole basis of it being next door to the BNP candidate - and the guy from the council said 'You can't do that - oh, you have trouble with steps, don't you? So this place is unsuitable for your mobility needs, isn't it? There's a slightly cracked step by the front door, completely unsuitable for you' so I could remain on the list. I'd already deregistered from an estate agent owned by somebody I went to school with because he was a massive Tommy Robinson fanboy.

They may claim 'I'm not a racialist, but...' - they are and always have been.

No, we don't want to respond because you pop up here with Nazi talking points. Now fuck off back to your Britain First Facebook group.

I am not an expert on Islam, but I would say some aspects of the faith are left wing, some right wing. Bit like all religions really.

Helping each other and helping those in need. Same as Christianity and Judaism and other religions.

One of the five pillars of Islam is charitable work. You’ll often find Muslim groups feeding the homeless, open up spaces when needed. I often seen Muslim groups given out food & drink when there has been a tragedy

Looking after others, before yourself, sounds pretty left wing to me

(I am a Catholic myself)

Riots rarely have anything to do with the trigger. That’s not news.

The people rioting are just out having what they think is a good time. Not sure if they could even articulate what they are rooting for. However, there is a great number of people who sympathise with the sentiment that unctontrolled immigration has been bad for the country. A vast majority of those people are not rioting. But branding them far right is both lazy and akin to sticking your head int he sand. Calling people names rarely makes the problem go away. Remember the ‘basket of deplorables’?

Hand wringing and pearl clutching about rioters not displaying British values doesn’t achieve anything. Most people know and agree with that. But it is still a fact that vast swathes of the country are against mass immigration. Millions voted Tory for 14 years to point this out, though the Tories did the opposite to what they promised. Millions voted Brexit to voice it. They didn’t riot then, and aren’t rioting now. Ignoring them and calling then names is not only stupid, it’s dangerous.

The thugs looting, attacking asylum hotels, mosques, businesses, black/brown people, Muslims and the police are right wing thugs!Hmm

This is right wing violence on our streets. Saying so is the opposite of sticking your head in the sand. Don't piss on my head and tell me it's raining @ll09sm.Hmm Stop sticking your head in the sand.

StoneofDestiny · 04/08/2024 21:42

These thugs and knuckle dragging hooligans are the ones I'd like to declare unfit to live in the UK. (Though I cannot imagine any other country deserves them either). They all look as if they have spawned from the same sperm bank. They have vomited all over the memories of the murdered children and clearly never had an iota of compassion for their families. They have endangered the lives of our police and local citizens and set about stealing from shopkeepers and wrecking their businesses. They have targeted mosques simply out of hatred. (Or do they attack Christian churches every time a Christian kills someone?)
These people are thick as mince - carrying Anarchy symbols yet demanding migrants follow rules of travel - you couldn't make it up! Anarchists demanding rules are followed.
These people really are the ghastly dregs of our society.

The Daily Mail are experts at posting a story knowing full well it will cause a reaction, then posting more articles condemning the reaction that they helped create. They do it all the time with posting deliberately unflattering photos of celebrities, then the next day a story about 'celebrity hits out at cruel online trolls who fat shamed her'. It's just more clicks for them and more money.

On a related note, did anyone see the lady in the pink shorts pushing a large bin at the police? Her business page has been found and some of the posts are hilarious. I'm not usually one for a social media shaming but she probably deserves it.

I agree. I was thinking to myself today that if Meghan Markle somehow died today, she would be portrayed so poetically as if it wasn't the same papers that trashed her daily. Did the same thing happen to Diana? I was too small to remember.

But shouldn't they be held accountable, they should be responsible for what they publish and face consequences and same as the politicians claiming the same rhetoric. These are genuinely dumb ass people they have conditioned them to think that the misfortunes in their life have happened because of immigrants.

No explanation why?

I would call dragging people out their cars and setting buildings on fire thuggery. I'd be extremely wary of anyone who did not.

I’m not saying the thuggery isn’t wrong. What I’m saying is that thuggery is not confined to one group of people - who just happen to be the ones you don’t agree with. Thugs come in all shapes and sizes, as do bullies. Nor am I necessarily saying that the police’s response over the last few days is wrong. I simply wish their response in Harehills had been more robust.

IClaudine · 04/08/2024 23:00

The fact is that was one, isolated night of unrest. Nothing else has happened since. 27 people have been arrested and may face charges. What more do you want?

What is happening now is very different and far more sinister.

Why isn't it? The kids of the far right groups of the 70's are all adults now it's not hard to imagine that they would be following in their parents footsteps. What do you suppose those kids whose parents are taking them to the current shit-show are getting taught at home.

Do you think this lad is being brought up by racially tolerant parents?

Pity the picture isn’t included here. You know nothing of this child or his parents. I see a happy little boy waving a couple of flags of his own country sitting on his Dad’s shoulders. Your comments are pure and simple prejudice.
