Feminists against sex segregation in sports

Tandora · 03/08/2024 21:22

AIBU to share a different perspective on a subject that seems to be almost entirely taken for granted on mumsnet? This is not something I have a definite opinion on myself (although I am against sex testing and I fully support the rights of trans women and women with differences in sex development to compete alongside other women in sporting competitions at all levels).

However I have found it really upsetting the degrading way that people have been speaking recently about top/ elite female athletes; denigrating their sporting prowess, and portraying them as weak, feeble and helpless, particularly in the wake of this boxing match controversy.

I started looking into opinions on the issue, starting with a search on “feminists against sex segregation in sport”. I came across this really interesting article.

AIBU to share?

There are a lot of people with DSDs who are also trans or suffering from gender dysphoria
Only in your little imaginary world.
In the real world this isn't true at all.

I’ve never understood why you are so invested in taking me down personally.

Do you have trouble with people who disagree with you?

They probably simply have trouble with people who spout nonsense rather than you personally.

Don't be disingenious, no-one has done any such thing. They have correctly pointed out the vast physical differences between male and female bodies.

"No-one"?

Really??

Tandora · 03/08/2024 23:18

Anyways this has just turned into the typical bullying.

Ive always been uncomfortable with the idea of sex segregation in sports . The events of the last few days have really brought the issue out to the fore. I was interested in whether there might be other women who felt the same and what some alternatives might be.

Why do you keep quoting people, pasting part in bold and then saying absolutely nothing?

Perhaps it’s his big manly thumbs pressing send too early. I refuse to believe OP is a woman.

And there are even more new posters turning up pointing out the flaws in OPs posts that have not posted on the sex and gender boards. This is great.

Sorry. to be clear, it is great to see new posters who have been quietly reading along with all the threads and have also decided that this situation with the IOC has pushed ideological demands too far.

Calling me a MRA is about as far from facts as one could be

You're on here advocating to give women's opportunities to men and to pit men against women in combat sports, arguing that there's no point to female athletes if men can beat them, and anyone who argues is a fascist. I agree MRA probably isn't accurate - it's more like male supremacism.

It doesn't exist to make the likes of you happy.

Are you OK? Your typing is going to pot. Have you slept since Thursday?

I've been wondering that too. I think the OP is compiling a dossier of 'evidence' of the 'abuse' directed towards them.

*their definition of abuse being other poster's incredulity at the points they've made.

CocoapuffPuff · 03/08/2024 23:20

OP, are you a mother? Have you carried a child and given birth?
Now that, that takes strength. Physically, emotionally and mentally. Different kind of strength from on the track or in the pool, but still strength.
How dare you sneer at female strengths on this site?

SilenceInside · 03/08/2024 23:20

@Tandora why would you "always" have disagreed with sex segregation in sport when you have already said quite clearly that you don't really know anything about sport? It's an odd, strong, opinion to hold about a topic you are ignorant of without any reasoning or evidence to support it.

LarkLane · 03/08/2024 23:21

Why, why, Y Tandora?

FOJN · 03/08/2024 23:21

Goodness me, I've never seen a TRA use DSD's as a wedge issue to justify dismantling women's rights before.

Oh no, never, this is all new and so unexpected.

(sarcasm alert)

Fucking hell this shit was old about 8 years ago.

Well there's ^ you're answer, 96% of people here think you are laughably wrong.

The majority of women know that male and female bodies are different and to compete against each other wouldn't be fair.

Many boys are stronger than women. The world champion USA women's football team were beaten by teenagers. There are many examples of top female athletes being beaten by men.

That's why we have segregation in sports.

titchy · 03/08/2024 23:22

HELLLLLLOOOOOOO!!!!

I POSTED A COUPLE OF SPORTS-RELATED QUESTIONS ID LIKE YOU TO ANSWER!!!!

(Shouting because you're ignoring me.)

For reference:

OP if we didn't sex segregate sports, how many women do you think we would be seeing at the Olympics this fortnight?

If we didn't have separate women's football teams, how many actual women footballers do you think we would see?

Ta ever so

grannysbay · 03/08/2024 23:22

So..... as female hormone levels vary throughout the day, month, life. And people add muscle through training etc..... everyone gets a full physical work-up before each Parkrun?

Tandora · 03/08/2024 23:23

I’m doing it to highlight the percentage of posts that are just nasty, gratuitous,
personal attacks.

I think it’s important to show the gender critical mob for how it truly is.

When the few of us who are speaking out finally lose our temper in the face of all the bullying , we get our posts deleted and told we are the problem.

I don’t know. I do think there has to be stratification for women to participate in elite sports, I just don’t know that sex is the only or best way to do it.
But I’m not sure… perhaps it is, I just worry about the way it reinforces harmful gender stereotypes and perceptions of female inferiority. And now we have the concern of excluding sex and gender minorities.
