to say women don't have XY chromosomes?

1000 replies

taylorswift1989 · 03/08/2024 11:55

Seeing a lot of posts on social media with people admitting they were "wrong" to call Imane Khelif a man, and that they now understand "she's a woman with XY chromosomes."

Am I going insane? A person with XY chromosomes is male! (Regardless of how they identify, of course.) Why are people saying stuff that is obviously nonsensical? Are people really that ignorant of basic biological facts?

Absolutely @Runningupthecurtains - my 12 year old DS who is a good couple of inches shorter than me is much much stronger. It's actually quite staggering just how much stronger he is.

ChishiyaBat · 03/08/2024 17:51

Runningupthecurtains · 03/08/2024 17:48

Apparently not 🙄 it could lead to men being disappointed or gasp upset and we wouldn't want that would we.

Oh heavens no, god forbid we upset th poor men and hurt their feelings, perish the thought!

LesMisSaigon · 03/08/2024 17:51

@californiaisdreaming My cat's had his testicles removed.
Pretty sure that hasn't made him female.

What a stupid and worthless analogy.
Did your cat have female organs added to him at the time of his neutering?
Doubt it, so still a male.
You will have to do better than that🤔

I haven't read the whole thread yet, but I can't believe the irony/hypocrisy of all the gender critical people on here. When so many people are being transphobic all I hear is " If you have a vagina you are a woman, no penis- you are a woman." Ffs, make your bloody minds up. For the hard of thinking...She is a woman!

Edited

No one gender critical says no penis means you are a woman because that would mean a man who had his penis removed would turn into a woman and that doesn't happen he would be a man without a penis.

spannasaurus · 03/08/2024 17:52

@Tandora sorry if I missed a previous answer but what scientific discipline is your PhD in?

Misschananderlerbongg · 03/08/2024 17:52

MrsBrightsidde · 03/08/2024 12:04

I think she is one of those that is genuinely stuck in the middle. One of the very rare exceptions where she has both XX and XY chromosome.

If she’s stuck in the middle, she competes as a man, otherwise it’s not fair.
Her issue is sad, it’s not her fault, but female born athletes shouldn’t suffer.

DownThePubWithStevieNicks · 03/08/2024 17:52

californiaisdreaming · 03/08/2024 17:49

"Elite females would be beaten in virtually all cases by mid table men in any sport that relies on physicality eg boxing."

See boysvswomen.com/

High school boys regularly beat elite female athletes for time in a wide range of sports every single year.

At 16yo, my nephew was swimming faster than the women’s world record in his best event. He’d never make a men’s Olympic team.

Hepwo · 03/08/2024 17:52

KeirSpoutsTwaddle · 03/08/2024 17:45

Honestly, those of you valiantly defending Imane, it doesn’t make you especially virtuous, to have successfully rejected tall the evidence including the evidence of your own eyes.
It’s not a virtue to defend Imane in this situation.

Agree.

They are right behind this cheat because they will always assume anyone is a mendacious liar and yet they will carefully overlook the enormous amount of money that man is fighting for. His future as a " heroine" that they are promoting is all about money for him and the men that have got him there.

That's the reality of the social justice world, they are so easily used to generate cash streams from the gullible to thieves whilst yelling at everyone else that doesn't have their foolish naivety.

Tandora · 03/08/2024 17:52

AIstolemylunch · 03/08/2024 17:47

Why are you objecting? This is objectively true. Elite females would be beaten in virtually all cases by mid table men in any sport that relies on physicality eg boxing. Thats justbobjective fact and any woman that has given birth to male children and watched the awe inspiring display that is male puberty turn a little boy into a man in a matter of months knows it.

That doesn't make men better than women or women mediocre. We are different but equal. Not the same but equal. Thats the difference between equity and equality.

AND ITS WHY SPORTS IS SEPARATED INTO SEX BASED CATEGORIES.

Why are you shouting?

AIstolemylunch · 03/08/2024 17:53

Tandora · 03/08/2024 17:50

I do not see them as “men” who “cheat” their way into female sports, and I have every confidence that the top female athletes are up to the challenge of competing with them and often beating them, as they proved they can and have done.

And although the women, and trans women, and cis women with diverse sex development, who participate at Olympic level in female sports, might not be able to beat the top cis , endosex, male athletes , I do not see them in any way as being the equivalent of “shit” or “mediocre” men.

Wtaf is endosex?

NonPlayerCharacter · 03/08/2024 17:53

Tandora · 03/08/2024 17:41

No I was objecting to the comparison several posters made - that top female athletes have the equivalent performance of “shit” and “mediocre” men.

They have, but that same performance is elite in women. When I was doing my A levels, someone produced a piece of coursework that would have been reasonable, though not exceptional, at the BA undergraduate level. That same piece of work was exceptional for an A level. Do you think anyone took it as an insult that it wasn't exceptional for older people working at a much more advanced level?

You do actually understand this, you're just scrabbling around for anything to justify the dangerous absurdities you want everyone to swallow.

PeppercornMill · 03/08/2024 17:53

IBA defines a female as someone with XX chromosomes.
IOC defines a female as someone with Female on their passport.

These two boxers failed the eligibility tests of the IBA to be defined as female. They passed the IOC eligibility test.

Smallsalt · 03/08/2024 17:53

KeirSpoutsTwaddle · 03/08/2024 16:43

Does your high testosterone level make you massively sporty, muscular and highly competitive, do you mind me asking?
My friend hasn’t found that to be the case despite all the talk about these boxers. 😉

Are all men massively sport and muscular?
No
But they are stronger than women.

PollyPeachum · 03/08/2024 17:53

If every athlete at higher than 'club' level had a simple DNA test if they wished to compete in Female class events we would easily sort the men from the women. This would hold good and be reliable in nearly all cases.
For those with a rare condition that enables an accepted woman to hold Y chromosomes in her cells there could be an appeals procedure. In which other factors could be taken into account.
a) A simple DNA test would be similar to those we take on Ancestry, or as we see depicted in detective dramas on TV. a cotton bud on a stick
b) The number of appeals would be small and may well cause some 'unfairness' to a very few individuals.
I suggest that those who fail because of having a Y chromosome should be sacrificed for the good of the many women who have suffered because of competition against the likes of Lia Thomas.

Someone who has typical sex development.

NonPlayerCharacter · 03/08/2024 17:54

Tandora · 03/08/2024 17:52

Why are you shouting?

This really is all you've got now, isn't it? I suppose now that you've admitted you don't see the point of female athletes if males can beat them, there was nowhere else to go.

sanluca · 03/08/2024 17:54

And although the women, and trans women, and cis women with diverse sex development, who participate at Olympic level in female sports, might not be able to beat the top cis , endosex, male athletes , I do not see them in any way as being the equivalent of “shit” or “mediocre” men.

The Olympics is to find the best of a certain group, the group in this case being people with a female body. Having a female body is different than having a male body and we celebrate that.
We don't celebrate the best of those with a female body and some people who have a somewhat okish male body.

So where do we go from here? Do female athletes get their own group or do male people who want to compete against them get their way even though they can compete in the mens group if they wanted to. It can't be both. It is really pick a side.

I am with the world athletics, world swimming and world rugby btw. Female means female

Barbie222 · 03/08/2024 17:54

the women, and trans women, and cis women with diverse sex development, who participate at Olympic level in female sports

Are you supportive of all trans women in women's sports? What about the majority of trans women, who take no hormonal treatment and retain all their male advantage? Would you be happy if there were no natal women winning any events? That's the logical conclusion, no?

HappiestSleeping · 03/08/2024 17:55

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/08/2024 17:49

If that is true then so be it, but one would expect that a test would be available.

Would one. The IOC don't require one. They also have taken the assessment away from the IBA and set up their own boxing unit, which no doubt follows all their values of "inclusion" uber alles.

Actually, yes one would. If it were me, I'd just publish the result and stop all the discussion. The IBA have not actually stated an XY chromosome was tested for or found (at least in anything I've seen), only that an "unspecified eligibility criteria" was not met.

Hepwo · 03/08/2024 17:55

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/08/2024 17:51

What I'm saying is well an unreliable test and some cock gobbling might have fudged the stats.

ConfusedConfusedConfused that's a new one

It is indeed.

Qanat53 · 03/08/2024 17:55

Does anyone know if he actually has a vagina? The lovely tube that connects the external vulva and womb? Let’s use the correct terms … a vagina cannot be seen without internal exam. Vulva is the outside vagina stuff.

Or, does he have a not a typical penis, and external tissue that looks like a vulva but is actually was a not fully formed testicular sac? Maybe a “void” that could be mistaken for an actual vagina?

We know he has testes because his body makes testosterone.

Tandora · 03/08/2024 17:57

But trans women do participate in sports. They have participated , and women’s sports have survived. Most top female athletes are cis and endosex.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/08/2024 17:57

They can't do this. But you know who could? The two boxers.
