to say women don't have XY chromosomes?

1000 replies

taylorswift1989 · 03/08/2024 11:55

Seeing a lot of posts on social media with people admitting they were "wrong" to call Imane Khelif a man, and that they now understand "she's a woman with XY chromosomes."

Am I going insane? A person with XY chromosomes is male! (Regardless of how they identify, of course.) Why are people saying stuff that is obviously nonsensical? Are people really that ignorant of basic biological facts?

What's absolutely awful about this is that this is all about money. Your average lefty screams blue murder about capitalism and yet they are right behind this man getting himself a female birth certificate in 2018, taking up boxing, gaining worldwide name recognition and milking it for mega bucks immediately after.

These men you all adore are not socialists, they are so utterly rapacious and greedy they will punch women for money.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/08/2024 17:41

I haven't seen any report of a proved XY chromosome from a reliable body. The IOC haven't seen one, and none of the news outlets have seen one. There is a rumour about a previous test, but nobody ever supplied the test result.

It's the boxers' personal medical information. That's why. And no, it's not "a rumour" it's what the IBA have stated happened. And the IOC this morning pretty much admitted that it was a "DSD case".

The Williams sisters are far from mediocre and not one person has said the performance of female champions is mediocre. You're arguing they are mediocre if they can't beat mediocre men.

Those of us still tethered to reality can acknowledge their achievements without deluding ourselves about their chances in a game with a pretty average male player.

I can't decide if it's other people posts or your own that you are either not reading or not understanding.

No I was objecting to the comparison several posters made - that top female athletes have the equivalent performance of “shit” and “mediocre” men.

My 16 year old is almost a foot taller than me, but about half my weight and he is stronger than me too. Wonder what difference that makes in sports that require power, like I don't know lets say boxing?

My boyfriend when I was 18-19 was the same height as me, we were roughly the same weight (we used to wear the same size 501s and occasionally wore each others). He was so much stronger and faster than me despite him not being sporty and me hitting the gym several times a week and being in the football team.
It was almost as if male bodies and female bodies are somehow different.

That isn't to say it doesn't exist, or that there is no XY chromosome. Just that there is no evidence.

I couldn't see it in the link you sent either.

So the WBA and the IBA aren’t credible sources? Nor the lab they used?

Nor the statement from the IOC that clarified something like ‘yesterday he incorrectly said it’s not a DSD issue. He meant to say it’s not a transgender issue’.
In other words it totally is a DSD issue, which is why he was wrong to say it wasn’t.

Bewildering I know but there’s a lot of muck being thrown to confuse things.

So.is someone with kelinfelters classed as male or female? Or is it assessed on an individual basis?

Male, always.

Oh... A cheeky swob... 😅 That can definitely be faulty when checking for umm... DNA

They should doing their own tests and test blood test for T, DNA and enhancement drugs.

I’m sorry - by you calling it cheeky, it doesn’t make it LOLS, nor does it make a man into a woman. As we all know, that’s not possible. Both of these boxers were tested and found (by their DNA) to be men. They are not eligible to fight in the women’s category. That’s the end of the argument.

It was you that made the link, Tandora. If you didn't centre men here, it wouldn't matter what level of male achievement was the same as an elite woman. Because they wouldn't need to be compared!

I'm so tired of the "haven't read the thread but here's my opinion on things which have been addressed comprehensively already" posters.

RTFT.

KeirSpoutsTwaddle · 03/08/2024 17:45

Honestly, those of you valiantly defending Imane, it doesn’t make you especially virtuous, to have successfully rejected tall the evidence including the evidence of your own eyes.
It’s not a virtue to defend Imane in this situation.

She does not have a penis. She is from a very conservative country, in which she would be killed if she was trans.

And she just won again!!

This sort of misinformation is dangerous.

Algeria does not kill people for being LGBT or for having a DSD.

It’s obviously not a great place to be LGBT and there are no laws preventing discrimination. A study commissioned by UK Gov in 2020 noted that their Penal code laws on public decency could lead to 3 years imprisonment or a fine. Thankfully prosecutions are rare. People don’t tend to be open about it due to shame.

Yeah not sure why my phone turned cheek to cheeky. That's on me.

What I'm saying is well an unreliable test and some cock gobbling might have fudged the stats.

Either way I've said all along there needs to be new test.

Why are you objecting? This is objectively true. Elite females would be beaten in virtually all cases by mid table men in any sport that relies on physicality eg boxing. Thats justbobjective fact and any woman that has given birth to male children and watched the awe inspiring display that is male puberty turn a little boy into a man in a matter of months knows it.

That doesn't make men better than women or women mediocre. We are different but equal. Not the same but equal. Thats the difference between equity and equality.

AND ITS WHY SPORTS IS SEPARATED INTO SEX BASED CATEGORIES.

A cheek swab is a very reliable way of checking DNA.

Apparently not 🙄 it could lead to men being disappointed or gasp upset and we wouldn't want that would we.

Thatcat · 03/08/2024 17:48

@Bambooshoot If they have said they’ve done a cheek swab, I haven’t seen that, but still they have not released any test results or evidence upon which they’ve made their decision and we still don’t know on what criteria IOC disagrees with.

californiaisdreaming · 03/08/2024 17:49

"Elite females would be beaten in virtually all cases by mid table men in any sport that relies on physicality eg boxing."

See boysvswomen.com/

High school boys regularly beat elite female athletes for time in a wide range of sports every single year.

No I was objecting to the comparison several posters made - that top female athletes have the equivalent performance of “shit” and “mediocre” men.

We all work to the best of our ability given our current lot in life.

I'm very mediocre at maths but I can easily count to 100. If my two year old grandson counted to 100 we'd proclaim him a genius. Because context.

Average men can beat women in many sports without having much talent compared to other males. It's just how it is.

If nobody had allowed these men into female sport the women wouldn't have had to spend years pointing out the reality of biology and just focused our efforts on the pinnacle of female talent in our own class.

I agree it can feel reductive and tiresome often to have to keep pointing out physical reality but we didn't start this bin fire, it's been forced upon us.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/08/2024 17:49

If that is true then so be it, but one would expect that a test would be available.

Would one. The IOC don't require one. They also have taken the assessment away from the IBA and set up their own boxing unit, which no doubt follows all their values of "inclusion" uber alles.

Tandora · 03/08/2024 17:50

OvaHere · 03/08/2024 17:39

Do you understand that the men who cheat their way into female sport whether that's because they have a DSD or they are 'self identifying' would never get near qualifying for the male Olympics?

They are not the same men. Male athletes who are good enough to be in the Olympics compete as men.

If not 'mediocre' what word would you use for men, not good enough to make it in elite men's sport, who cheat their way into female sport?

I do not see them as “men” who “cheat” their way into female sports, and I have every confidence that the top female athletes are up to the challenge of competing with them and often beating them, as they proved they can and have done.

And although the women, and trans women, and cis women with diverse sex development, who participate at Olympic level in female sports, might not be able to beat the top cis , endosex, male athletes , I do not see them in any way as being the equivalent of “shit” or “mediocre” men.
