to say women don't have XY chromosomes?

taylorswift1989 · 03/08/2024 11:55

Seeing a lot of posts on social media with people admitting they were "wrong" to call Imane Khelif a man, and that they now understand "she's a woman with XY chromosomes."

Am I going insane? A person with XY chromosomes is male! (Regardless of how they identify, of course.) Why are people saying stuff that is obviously nonsensical? Are people really that ignorant of basic biological facts?

Complete insensitivity to androgens makes a person with XY chromosomes female. This is the ONLY example where a Y chromosome = Female. And then the person would not develop any male characteristics in puberty. In every other case a Y chromosome = male.
There is most definitely a way to determine sex from chromosomes, can we please stop pretending there isn't, it's exhausting.

Differences in sex development

Find out about differences in sex development (DSDs), a group of rare conditions where the reproductive organs and genitals don't develop as expected. Some people prefer to use the term intersex.

It’s astounding the lengths people will go to defend a violent cheat.

californiaisdreaming · 03/08/2024 17:06

Having a Y chromosome makes someone male.

Not having one makes them female.

The only exception would be someone pregnant with a male foetus as the foetuses DNA would be present in their system with Y chromosomes - but still not part of their one internal cells, just someone else's cells present in their bodies.

Their cells would still need to be Y-chrimosome-free to be female.
Being pregnant would be the best giveaway of that.

A groin guard (female version of a cup) is flat. No bulge.

What’s the point in female champions if they’re no better than “shit men”?

Because women can be exceptional without needing to be measured against biological men.

Once again it’s the minority side of the debate who are having their posts deleted 🙄

Toxic cauldron, eh? Sounds a tad misogynistic.

Because they are the best woman.

Again as you have now ignored this twice do you think there shouldn't be sex tests because there shouldn't be M and F categories or because there should be categories but based on self id?

"What’s the point in female champions if they’re no better than “shit men”?"

The same reason there are under 16s competitions, welter weight and not just heavy weight fights, the school egg and spoon race and 100m race that adults can't compete in.

Perhaps being on the minority side defending VAWG should tell you something then?

XY, on its own, does not make someone male or give them a physiological advantage in sport, nor mean that they will go through male puberty

There are people born XY who are completely unaware of it and only find out later in life.

This can't be completely true as we know that khelif had to under go tests and failed them . So there is some connection to the dsd that some sports writers are now confirming is what she has.

Oh, so that's why you don't want any female champions and argue so passionately and dishonestly for conditions that will exclude them. You don't see the point of them if men can outperform them.

I could just leave it there, but I'll pretend that anyone reading doesn't know the answer. Women deserve equal opportunities to men and without sex segregated sports, that cannot happen. Women who are as elite as anyone without male advantage can be deserve equal opportunities with fair fights and the only way to do that is to have contests without people who have that advantage. An elite man and an elite woman can both both admired equally by anyone who doesn't think female athletes are pointless. Obviously you won't admire or care about the women but that doesn't matter. It's your wish to exclude and erase them and their opportunities that matters.

I keep seeing it claimed that the boxer was born with a vagina. I've linked in a couple of articles upthread about situations where babies were thought to have vaginas but developed as males when they hit puberty.

Secondly, it used to be the case that Olympians had swab tests to confirm their sex. This was a chromosome test. That started in 1968 - after the Erika/Erik Schinneger case.

Apologies for the sensationalist headline but this gives info about Erik Schinneger for those who are too young to be aware of the case. [ETA Erik was genuinely thought to be female at birth and thought that he was female for years.]

Edited

Thank you I wasn't aware of that case(not born til1980) , it's a very sad case and i'm glad that Erik has a good life.

They have talked about a test for gender threshold, whatever that is, but they won’t show the tests or the criteria.

It's amazing you got to the age of being able to post on this website and do not know simple biological facts about why a man is different from a woman and the link to chromosomes, XX and XY.

I have a female friend with a condition that was born female, raised female, appeared female in every way. She only found out that her chromosomes were different when she wanted to have a baby. She has related health issues - problems with bone density and arthritis at a young age - but there is nothing 'masculine' about her.

How on earth do you think you've got the right to declare someone like her to be male? There are multiple factors that have to align to be biologically male or female, and nature is more complicated than that. But I guess you aren't able to understand beyond the simplified system you were taught at school. Grow up and read a book, and take your misogyny dressed as feminism elsewhere.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/08/2024 17:12

its enough to evoke feelings of gender dysphoria in the most cis of women.

What does "most cis of women" mean? I'm confused, I thought it just meant "non trans" according to genderists? Confused

She, her passport says her can you stop disrespecting a person's sex. You are literally had lighting now.

And to the other seven or eight individuals posting attacks, I really sincerely hope your family never has your bile uncovered.

You're the one who doesn't want them measured only among women and not men. Do you even follow your own reasoning?

Angrymum22 · 03/08/2024 17:13

I’ve just had a look at a lot of photos, past and present, of Imane Khaled. Not a single one suggested female to me.
Starting with his/her brow very definitely male, brow ridge pronounced and crown of the head angled backwards from the brow.
Strong angled jaw.
Thick developed neck with thyroid cartridge enlargement ( Adam’s Apple)
Forearms thick with little taper to wrist, same with calves to ankles.
Absolutely no bust and ver narrow hips.

In fact without an identifying caption I would have quite fancied him/her. Very much my male type. As a very heterosexual women nothing about him/her suggests female.

Not true the eligibility criteria can be found in their rules.

There is no information that has been made public about what she apparently failed on. The governing body who failed her (which is one of many, there's no single authority in boxing) has a lot of issues re their credibility so it's not as reliable as is being made out.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/08/2024 17:14

They have talked about a test for gender threshold, whatever that is, but they won’t show the tests or the criteria.

They have said that their criteria is XY/XX which implies that the test is a genetic one based on sex chromosomes in your DNA.

Where are you getting the idea that the criteria are a secret?
