to say women don't have XY chromosomes?

1000 replies

taylorswift1989 · 03/08/2024 11:55

Seeing a lot of posts on social media with people admitting they were "wrong" to call Imane Khelif a man, and that they now understand "she's a woman with XY chromosomes."

Am I going insane? A person with XY chromosomes is male! (Regardless of how they identify, of course.) Why are people saying stuff that is obviously nonsensical? Are people really that ignorant of basic biological facts?

There we go again. The achievements of top Female Olympic athletes reduced to the level of “shit men”.

its enough to evoke feelings of gender dysphoria in the most cis of women.

All women deserve better than this 😢

He's not female, and your constant argument by assertion doesn't change that fact. And we and you know that by "all women", you mean men.

How do these woman keep ending up in elite sport do you think?

There are a million reasons why people cannot compete in top-level sport. Having the wrong sex chromosomes is just one of many. Tough luck! I'd love to be an olympic gymnast but my hypermobility meant sport was very painful for any length of time. Is that discrimination? Or just life?

I could beat year 4 boys in a race, just about. The odd one might beat me. Is it discrimination to not let me enter the year 4 boys sprint at sports day? No of course it bloody isnt. And by year 6 they would all beat me. He isnt being discriminated against, at all, because nobody is stopping him boxing against men.

He shouldn't be fighting women because he's clearly been through a male puberty, clearly lives as a man (no hijab) just like Caster Semenya, irrespective of whether or not he has a medical condition. Nobody is discriminating against HIM (he does not claim to be trans and is XY) becasue he may have a DSD.

No shame on YOU. You disgust me. Pontificating about complex medical conditions you barely understand and trying to twist yourself inside out to justfify Men selling out E
womens sports and abusing women. I sincerely hope you're not a female yourself as women selling out their own sex class to claim pathetic woke points from abusive men are the worse.

@Marblessolveeverything hugs to you , you are not the one on the wrong side of history (or medicine) xx

She was born with a vagina when did we start checking dna of competitors ?

How do you know there isn’t a scrotum with testes producing testosterone?

Look up intersex and it’s perfectly possible to have testes, a penis and a rudimentary opening alongside.

This boxer has been through male puberty by the looks of body shape and muscle mass.

Khelif is a an adult male with a DSD. I'll save my sympathy for the women being harmed.

Excuse me how dare you accuse me of gas lighting and then literally you go on to do it.

I am disgusted to live in a society where hypothetical situations are thrown at people when bullies are trying to provide justification for their sick ignorant comments. There is a human being individual being discussed like a hypothetical social exam question.

Shame on you, a person with a medical condition being discriminated against. Hopefully the future generations will do better.

Gaslighting again. He is not being discriminated against because he has a medical condition!

I keep seeing it claimed that the boxer was born with a vagina. I've linked in a couple of articles upthread about situations where babies were thought to have vaginas but developed as males when they hit puberty.

Secondly, it used to be the case that Olympians had swab tests to confirm their sex. This was a chromosome test. That started in 1968 - after the Erika/Erik Schinneger case.

Apologies for the sensationalist headline but this gives info about Erik Schinneger for those who are too young to be aware of the case. [ETA Erik was genuinely thought to be female at birth and thought that he was female for years.]

  • She is a woman you ignorant person. She is a woman with a chromosome medical issue. Honestly the pure bile, ignorance and discrimination on this thread is disgustingly toxic. Hopefully none of you will have family members with chromosomal issues because god love the poor children.*

Reality says otherwise. I value female safety above male feelings. What's wrong with you that you don't?

It kills me that people who joyfully advocate men smashing women's opportunities and bones and essentially lying about it with their Newspeak will still come out with rhetoric like this. You guys would have intact men changing among the poor girl children if they wanted to and you think you can lecture emotively about protecting the vulnerable.

Wolf in sheep's clothing? It's a wolf with a cotton bud on its head.

You have a PhD in developmental biology and you posted 'Some people with DSDs are male, others are female. Others are intersex.'?

Okay.

My thoughts.

And to not know who Emma Hilton is either.

Yes women do deserve a protected category for sports.

See boy v women

It is a fact that male physiology has an advantage over female physiology in most aspects of sport, they are as a class stronger, faster, have stronger bones, greater lung capacity, different muscular structures and a 1000 other little differences that bake in male advantage.

Well they are. The top female athletes only beat the shit men and that's why sports need to be sex segregated because otherwise there'll be no female champions. Just shit men taking opportunities from elite women.

I know you hate reality but reality doesn't care what you think or say. It simply is. And you are wrong and you do actually know it.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 03/08/2024 17:03

Thatcat · 03/08/2024 16:49

There is nothing, literally nothing anywhere, which points towards a test which says Khelif has an XY chromosome. Nothing. It’s a made up assumption.

Khelif is not new to this sport. She’s been around for a long time. No one notices her when she loses a match. But when she wins… “MAN! It’s a MANNNN!”

So many assumptions have been made of this poor woman based on her appearance. Not scientific reports.
Surveying her body and clothing for anything considered out of a very small box what a woman should look, move, act and perform like plays right into the hands of misogyny. The male gaze of how a woman should be.

Why aren’t there multiple threads about people participating in the Olympics who have caused ACTUAL harm to females. Like that man who actually raped a 12 year old girl? Where’s the energy and outrage for that?

There’s an epidemic of male on female violence. Men get away with it every single day. Men don’t need to masquerade as a woman and train for the Olympics to make that happen.

Leave Khelif alone.

What nonsense. The president of the IBA and vice president of the WBO have both stated publicly that testing showed XY chromosomes and a competitive advantage over females.

Yes they deserve fairness.

You claim to have a PhD in something relevant to developmental biology so I assume you are not claiming that we are doing a women a disservice by acknowledging that men have a physical advantage over us when it comes to sport.

There are many examples of amateur men beating elite women in sport precisely because if that advantage, women are not lesser because of it. An elite sportswoman is an elite sportswoman and we should make sure they have fair competition.

Helleofabore · 03/08/2024 17:05

Sadly, 'shit' men do still beat Olympic standard women.

Two school boy teams, one in Australia and one in the USA both beat their Olympic medal winning standard female teams.

Because that is exactly the difference in physical advantage that male puberty brings. There are so many instances of this all through out different sports.

That is the fucking point! And it is the reason that people use blunt language to convey the extraordinary violation of female athlete's human rights.

Men and women are not equal when it comes to boxing and never will be. That's just reality. Women can be incredibly talented in our own field but we would never win against the elite men.

Sometimes the best female boxer through sheer talent can beat a mediocre talented man. A lot of the time those men will win just by brute strength alone and no talent needed. Something that was probably evidenced in the fight that just happened.

I realise it's a shame that women cannot most of the time match up to men physically. It is reality though. If it wasn't reality there would be a lot less MVAW in the world.

OneBadKitty · 03/08/2024 17:06

Being born with a vagina does not, on its own, make you a woman.

When she was 13 my dd had a hernia in her groin area. On seeing the specialist she was sent for scans because he was suspicious that the hernia might actually be an undescended testicle. It is possible, as a freak of nature, for a baby to present as female but be genetically male. He warned us that it was possible our daughter was actually a boy. However, the presence of her ovaries and uterus and the fact that she started her periods proved she was female. The hernia was her fallopians tube which had descended through a hole in her abdomen wall.

My point is, children with ambiguous genitals or the presence of both are often assigned a gender at birth which can turn out to be the opposite of their actual biological sex which is determined by chromosones.
