Now that she's the official nominee, is anyone else excited about Kamala Harris's chances?

Just to get it out of the way - I am completely against Trump being elected President. I'm pretty excited to see Kamala being officially nominated, and looking forward to her fighting a strong campaign - albeit slightly nervously. Anyone else?

It's so very very misogynistic to assume that. She is qualified for the job. What qualifications does Trump have? Or because he's male, does it not matter?

She has achieved nothing during her time in office. Do you actually know anything about her? This is not about misogyny- it’s about competence. Of which she is not competent. KH thinks the US has a strong and enduring relationship with North Korea. Uh what? She said that. She frequently comes across as ill-prepared, uninformed and unintelligent. Her record as a prosecutor is poor- putting loads of people in prison for smoking weed- when she smoked weed herself in college. When at a press conference with the Polish president - KH was asked a detailed question about US policy/infrastructure plans regarding Ukrainian refugees. It was obvious KH didn’t even understand the question - she then looked to polish president to answer for her - then started laughing hysterically and finally said “A friend in need is a friend indeed.” Sorry VP what?? She has a wealth of advisors and speech writers and it’s obvious she hasn’t even bothered to be briefed on what the hell is going on. She has never been to the border and has made impact on immigration number whilst in office. Some people say oh she doesn’t need to go to the border - but I think yes you do. To see things on the ground and put it in context can give you a more robust grasp on the problem at hand and ways to address it. She frequently speaks in “word salads” and doesn’t say anything much of meaning. I am not a misogynist. I am
a woman - and I think it’s a shame we don’t have a better representative for women. There are so many intelligent and competent women out there who would represent us well - but KH is honestly thick as shit and she gives us women a bad name. Again, I am judging her solely on her merits and competence - not race/gender.

FayeGreener · 02/08/2024 20:54

It’s a bit like Diane Abbott in that it’s amazing to see a black woman in a position of power.

It’s just a shame that she’s a bit shit.

Why do you assume that just because someone doesn't care for Harris that they are pro Trump? It is more than possible to dislike both candidates.

Yeah, pollsters have even given it its own term - “double haters.”

FayeGreener · 02/08/2024 20:57

If I was American I’d vote for Trump because he’s already been president so I know the world can survive a Trump presidency.

I’ve no idea if the world can survive a Harris presidency.

Well if you voted for Trump you certainly wouldn't need to worry about voting again. He's got a plan to take care of that.

What is it they say? “The best predictor of future behaviour is past behaviour”.

Trump is all talk. I imagine if he wins it’ll be the same as last time - quite boring really.

halava · 02/08/2024 21:01

The presidents to my mind are just figureheads. At least Harris is not orange and mad/bad.

The troops behind them run the show so it makes little difference if Harris is not to everyone's personal taste. She will definitely not be anything as embarrassing as Trump and maybe the US can regain some of its dignity. It's only four years anyway so I hope she wins. Just for the sigh of satisfaction to see her trump Trump.

Although TBH I'd say a Harris win will probably cause ructions and instability from those on Trump's side. They weren't scared to try a coup already.

No –– she's a genocidal monster, no better than Trump.

You are a psychopath to believe that anyone can believe that Trump is even close to 'ok' .. he is a fucking embarrassment. Do you really want him representing YOUR COUNTRY ??

Who would you honestly be prouder of aS YOUR spokesperson ? An incompetent incomprehensible ancient fuckwit of an erudite sane YOUNG woman. ?

Tell me you're a straight white person without saying that - because a lot of people didn't survive the Trump presidency.

FayeGreener · 02/08/2024 21:03

Wouldn’t it make sense to let Trump just win? He can only serve one more term then you’re rid of him! It’s only another four years.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 02/08/2024 21:04

No.

MacDonaldandHobNobs · 02/08/2024 21:05

As an aside, does anyone else think J.D Vance is really creepy? I mean have you really listened to some of the things he says.

I wonder what his wife really thinks about Trump calling immigrants scum and all the vile rhetoric around immigration from the MAGA camp. I believe she's second generation. But then so it's Alina Habba and let's face it, Melania is first generation, so the xenophobia really makes no sense at all.

a lot of brown people didn’t survive the Obama presidency. Mainly because he bombed the shit out of them.

Don't remember the Donald doing that.

Well, the US economy is currently tanking so unless she and Biden can turn it around before November then she is probably toast.

No it isn't where are your sources for that

I don’t believe that, and you know why? Because both Democrats and Republicans have said something similar about nearly every president during my adult life.

Most of the 2000s: “George W. Bush is going to turn the US into a Christofacist theocracy!” Didn’t happen.

2011: “Barack Obama is a going to manufacture a national crisis and use it as an excuse to cancel elections!” Didn’t happen.

2016-2020: “Donald Trump is going to make himself a dictator and eliminate democracy!” Didn’t happen.

The only reason we didn’t get a similar conspiracy theory about Biden is that no one believed he was mentally able to pull it off.

24 years of crying wolf, and I’m over it.

Think that came from Faye

Highly recommended listening to TRIP US, they’re upfront and talk to both Democrats and Republicans and give honest assessments on how things are going for both candidates.

Josh Shapiro seems to be the favoured VP candidate at the moment. Mark Kelly was highly thought of but doesn’t quite seem to have the X factor. Pete Buttigieg won’t happen - as Katy says, the US, sadly, is not ready for a woman AND a gay man on the same ticket.

Donald Trump Is Dropping Bombs at Unprecedented Levels

The candidate who once warned America about Hillary Clinton's hawkishness is turning into a war machine.

If he loses this election he’s toast anyway - he’ll be older than Biden is now in 2028.

Only 3 things motivate Trump to run for the Presidency - money, attention and fear of going to jail. If someone came along tomorrow, offered him a pile of money and a promise he’ll never go to jail then he’d drop out in a heartbeat.

Hatfullofwillow · 02/08/2024 19:52

Not excited, it'll be close. Even if the Democrats win, there are 70 election officials in states that are likely to be close, who believe the election in 2020 was stolen from Trump. There's a very real possibility that they will simply refuse to certify results.

Wouldn’t be amazed, plus he’ll ask for re-counts again, although hopefully he learned his lesson last time!

I’m genuinely scared in case Trump wins again, I think he’s horrifying, not bright, really clueless (c’mon, the man drew a line of a fake weather front with a sharpie! 🤣) Kamala at least is for women’s rights and I think she will gain a lot of votes from people who don’t believe several old men should decide if a woman can have autonomy over her own body.

FayeGreener · 02/08/2024 21:12

Isn’t the problem a real lack of impressive candidates? Neither Trump nor Harris are terribly awe-inspiring are they? A Cheeto-coloured madman who can’t stop boasting about himself and a clearly out of her depth weird cackling woman.

Yea JD Vance’s comments on “childless crazy cat lady’s” having no stake in the future was so offensive. He will become a problem for Trump. Not nice
