Now that she's the official nominee, is anyone else excited about Kamala Harris's chances?

Just to get it out of the way - I am completely against Trump being elected President. I'm pretty excited to see Kamala being officially nominated, and looking forward to her fighting a strong campaign - albeit slightly nervously. Anyone else?

Cat ladies was never about IVF. It was about women with power making decisions that will affect future generations

My goodness. You are the first person I have seen anywhere on the internet who has justified what he said. It was about women who don't have children, labelling them in the most derogatory way. Personally I like strong women, whether they have children or not
I'll leave you to it. No point discussing if you think that was okay
How misogynistic

@Viviennemary

I think she's awful. A totally fake self promoter

I don't know how you can say this but also say that Trump would be a better choice.

Madness.

You only have to put 'he' in the place of 'she' in all of these posts and it is Trump off to a T

It's so very interesting to watch Trump and his supporters still trying to run a campaign on who they'd like to be running against, not who they actually are running against. This is what will lose the election for them.

Its very clear they literally have no clue on how to campaign against Kamala Harris because they lose on every front. She represents future politics not the past, that's very hard to fight against as it will be the next generations deciding the future. Project 2025 is a huge nail in the coffin for many voters, they should be reaching out to people not alienating them by taking away civil rights.

MAGA movement will be defeated by Christmas, its already diminishing. It needs to happen so the world can move on.

This time next year Trump will be in prison going through more trials for the other 60 felony charges against him.

What will be interesting will be how the Republican party can rebuild post Trump. If they actually can.

This everyone is weird except the people sticking with the democrats is also too obvious.

Some people realise when everything is being weaponised to suit their purposes. Cat ladies was never about IVF. It was about women with power making decisions that will affect future generations. I always think of Angela Merkel this way. However, for the shortsighted and people who lack critical thinking anything can be twist for to suit narratives.

No, you can't change Vance's words like that. He said what he said, and your version isn't better. The entire notion that childless women shouldn't have power because of the future is nonsense. Democrats recognised that. And IVF isn't about JD Vance's comment: it's about the consequences of abortion bans.

There are weird Democrats out there, certainly, although the usual Democratic method is to get lazy and corrupt (think of the guy AOC defeated), rather than losing their minds.

Biden isn't running, and I don't believe he's actually got dementia, I think he's just old and tired. And I surely wouldn't make that a campaign point given how Trump has been doing.

MacDonaldandHobNobs · 24/08/2024 08:18

On a serious note, having watched his very recent press conferences Trump genuinely looks likes he's in a cognitive decline. He seems to be sprialling downwards quite fast.

I wondered whether it was a ploy to play the medical card when he got sentenced in the hope of avoiding jail but it looks like he's really spiralling out of control.

Is this dementia or early onset Alzheimers? Is this the prelude to a stroke? he really doesn't look well. At what point does someone step in medically to raise concerns.

Followyouinto · 24/08/2024 08:25

is the benchmark here really ‘better than Trump’ when the man is a complete buffoon. Yes I agree she is better than Trump. But that bar is low and I see nothing exciting about a Kamala Harris presidency. For reasons I mentioned above and nothing exciting about her chances (per thread title).

Trump has been President. The world is still intact. Not looking forward to seeing that manic grin on our screens for the next three years.

I love that you are ignoring all the terrible things he did but even if we do, SMILING is worse than rape?! REALLY?

I can understand that someone might find her "insipid and unintelligent in her speeches" - I don't see it at all (certainly not unintelligent) but of course its a subjective thing.

But surely anyone would have to agree that she is leagues ahead of Trump in intelligent/coherent speech giving?

Great post, and I agree. This election is a stark choice.

Viviennemary · 23/08/2024 22:47

You have put that very well. She doesn't give interviews Becaise she is hopeless at them. All she can do is appear with lots of razzmatazz and balloons in front of fawning cheering celebs, totally pathetic amd cringeworthy,

Edited

One candidate was introduced at their convention by a ‘celeb’ and literally appeared from a cloud of smoke. The other didn’t even get a standard personal introduction, just walked briskly onstage after their name was called over the sound system.

Which was which, @Viviennemary ?

EasternStandard · 24/08/2024 10:44

It's incredibility close

Every so often I google will Trump win and it seems the bookies have swung back to him, likely due to RFK

It could switch again of course.

I'm not keen on the celeb conference style, would prefer for them to go on policy

And how are you using 'critical thinking' in relation to Vance's comments?
Are you seriously saying that only women who have had children have a stake in the future?

It would certainly appear that way. What about women like me who have children but not grandchildren? Do we have a stake in the future or not? It’s worth bearing in mind that it was this train of thought that was used when Andrea Leadsom ruined her own leadership chances in 2016.

twodowntwotogo · 24/08/2024 12:00

It's so telling that

  1. The most damning things people on here seem to be able to come up with against Harris is so vague and superficial - her smile, her laugh, her supposed 'phoniness', allusions to interviews or books they barely remember and can't give any specifics on and
  2. They have simply nothing actually positive to say about Trump.

It's like a watered down version of the bile and spite that the Republicans have traded in under Trump, particularly the older corrupted figures such as
Marjorie Taylor Green, Santos and Vance. Their key appeal seems to be to hearken to a supposed golden age when straight white Christian men were in charge and everyone else's role was to serve them whether through child-bearing or tugging the forelock. I really hope demographic change will see them off.

Harris has been shifting the narrative away from Trump and towards a more positive and hopeful future - and maybe that's what people are responding to, an optimism that some more moderation in public discourse might win over the deep and hate-filled divisions so prominent in American politics since 2016.

^^ This. I have watched clips of Trump at his 'press conferences' , rallies etc and he talks about the US being a banana republic, turning into a shithole, how you will be raped crossing the street to buy bread. Very depressing.

Truthfully, considering that most of the (considerable) damage in the world has been instigated and done by men who do have children, I'm very happy to give the childless cat ladies a chance.

It's surely a bit ironic that the party of people-without-children-have-no-stake-in-the-future is the one trying to dismantle environmental protections, foreign alliances, and programmes that actually benefit women and children, is it not?

Disclaimer: I do have children.

Love your post! I'll take my chances with strong women, childless or not...
