To ask for help making an adult party bag

Hello
Having a big event this year. Not a wedding or birthday but a big celebration. 50 guests. I want to do each guest a party bag to take away. So far I have got the following ideas but I think it's a bit boring
Pic and mix in the colour scheme of the party
A mini homemade cake (my friend is a Baker so is doing these)
A small ornament connected to the event (think mini logo figure type thing)

I'm doing an individual card for each guest

What else can I put in?
I want it to be nice so can spend some money but not a huge amount
Any ideas?

Event type is a life affirming one rather than a birthday or anniversary
Median age of guests is mid 40s

I am so curious - is it a divorce party? If not I'm going to look silly but just had to ask! 😝

Mini alcohol, mini plaques or candles, chocolates, things that people can use for fun on the night like props for pictures etc.

Hope your party goes well! X

TheTripThatWasnt · 02/08/2024 14:08

I'd say consumables all the way. You've had lots of ideas for different ones, but mini bottles of booze (for drinkers) or something equally treat-y for non-drinkers are always good. Or a biscuit from Biscuiteers (hugely overpriced IMO, but I'd rather have money spent on something that will definitely get used (eaten))

You're clearly set on the figurine things, and I do get that an 'in joke' might make people smile, but will 50 people REALLY want to keep it afterwards? On a keyring might be a good plan as a PP suggested, or have it iced onto a biscuit (don't know why I've got a biscuit bee in my bonnet!)

One wedding we went to had small glass jars with a Mason jar style lid full of sweets as favours. They were great because we ate the sweets, but we still use the jars as sugar jars 15+ years later.

BobbyBiscuits · 02/08/2024 14:10

A nice little scented candle in a glass holder? You could tie ribbon round it or something.
A little keyring with something event related, or the person's initial?
Those little sachets of face masks/foot mask or scrubs?

Not a divorce party. Sorry I'm being very vague. I'm not trying to be a knob but it's v specific so I don't want to put it on here . It's a lovely positive recovery and general awesomeness thing though

I can absolutely promise you the ornament is going to be the favourite thing. This is not 50 strangers. This is 50 good friends with a shared very uplifting reason to celebrate who all have bought into this shared symbol

Now I'm just intrigued by 50 good friends (do they all know each other?!) who all want the same ornament in their life!

LifesNotEnidBlyton · 02/08/2024 14:18

Some people are so miserable. 🤣🤣 It's a party bag, not a bag of dog poo. If people want to bin it/donate it because they hate it they can crack on. I doubt OP will be asking around for years to come to make sure everyone's still using the contents. But many people will find it fun and put a smile on their face. Personally I'd far sooner have the party bags than have the money spent on extra food. The OP isn't going to only serve crisps and stale bread just to ensure she can budget for this. The food will still be provided. This is a cheerful extra, no one will be asked to starve because OP has spent all the money on bath bombs and mini bottles of gin. 🤣🤣

Little rolls of patterned sticky tape
Little car airfreshners
Candles
Little bottles of alcohol/syrup for coffee
Pattered tissues for handbags/in the car
Compact mirrors
Socks
Mini aftershave/perfume
Pens
Playing cards or Top Trumps cards with personalised themes (dogs for dog lovers/cars for motor heads etc etc)
Tape measure/spirit levels/general DIY tools
Those shopping bags that fold into a pouch
Mints/chewing gum
Winter gloves
Items themed to each person (cake cases or sprinkles for Janet the baker, chilli flakes for Dave who puts them on everything etc etc).

Large groups know each other and all the different groups are meeting but they've all been part of a bigger thing (the ornament is a symbol of it)
Imagine someone doing really well at something as a result of the 50 people and being nicknamed 'the lion' and them all getting a little lion.
It isn't that, and it's more moving but that's the vibe

Do adults really need a party bag? I'd ditch the ornament, no one needs a bag of plastic tat!

I don't think OP or anyone has suggested adults NEED a party bag
Sometimes people do things for fun
Strange concept I know....

Anyway....
Packet of seeds? Nice smelling tea light?
Basically the sort of things people give as wedding favours might fit - anything on here https://www.hitched.co.uk/wedding-planning/organising-and-planning/unusual-wedding-favours/

Do you have any private jokes or history as a group or relating to the individual you are celebrating you could refer to?
E.g. one chocolate celebration each ( a la gavin and stacey), or fake tattoos if the person heavily tattooed or lipgloss if they are very into their beauty?

RhetoricalRectangle · 02/08/2024 14:27

Just to say, I'd LOVE to receive this and think it's a fabulous idea.

Patty bags are a highlight of my childhood!

Happygogoat · 02/08/2024 14:27

I wouldn’t go ornament either, people realistically won’t hold on to it. Seeds, mini booze, soap, candle…. All useable and more environments/not plastic.

letsjustdothis · 02/08/2024 14:28

Ignore the people who think it's a shit idea, they aren't your people. And the people suggesting Christmas cracker items, ignore those too 😂

I agree with the wildflower seeds and washi tape. We did wildflower seeds in mini envelopes and then in a small cotton bag.

Maybe one of those old school plastic tile sliding puzzles.

If you can find them cheap enough, you can get credit card sized multi tool things that are fun.

We also got pencils that are made from recycled newspaper that have seeds in that you can plant after using the pencil - carrots, chillis, coriander, things like that.

I wouldn't want a figure/ornament and can only imagine that most people wouldn't be fond of a dust catcher. I really think the bag is daft. Sorry.

You seem to have misread the question, it was ‘what should I put in an adult party bag?’ not ‘Do you think an adult party bag is a daft?’

That website link is exactly my point about giving people a bag of tat! apart from the things that are edible and the box of matches, wtf do you do with the rest of it, or who wants something with someone else’s initials on??

I get that symbols etc have significance and meaning to people. And I get shared interests/beliefs etc. But that doesn't mean all of those people want an extra 'thing' in their house that they need to find a place for (I'd bet good money that most of them won't last until the next Charity shop/tip run, or will end up in a drawer).

Going back to your original question, which was "what ELSE can I put in?" - if you're dead set on the things you listed in your OP then I don't think you need to put anything 'else' in. You're clearly not looking for alternatives to your list, and you're already spending a lot of money (by the time you've bought bags, cards, pick & mix, a cake, an ornament for 50 people you're easily in for over £500) so I'd say your list is more than enough!

Except that you're not CLEARLY explaining it! You're just being vague and letting everyone jump to their own conclusions about what it is, and therefore basing their judgement about it on that! If you CLEARLY explained it, everyone would know what it was!

Nah, that's not how this place works.
I'd give more information, people would choose a different bit to pick over.

Mini vibrator

I wish I had fun friends that put these in party bags.

HereComesEverybody · 02/08/2024 15:06

God there are some truly joyless people on here!
OP I think it sounds fan & I would love to attend a gorgeous, well planned & considered party & then a party bag on top - what's not to love!

I have received the following things as party favours & really enjoyed them:

Tiny jar of honey from a local farm with bee hives- it was super cute with lovely packaging

Small scented candle in a tin - different party but also from a honey supplier - the candle was bees wax & v nice

Pack of wild seeds / specific seeds from a charity close to the hosts heart

Decorated cup cake in a presentation box - they were all decorated with icing flowers & were so beautiful

A paper cone of sweets

A tiny box of luxurious chocolates

A disposable camera

Mini bottle of champagne

Guest sized loccitane soap

Slice of the celebration cake in an individual tiny cardboard box

A Christmas tree decoration (at a December party) I adored this one

A personalised single serve cocktail. Everyone's name was printed on the label. The cocktails were in glass bottles

I think you sound very thoughtful & I hope you have a fabulous party 🥳🎉

crochetmonkey74 · 02/08/2024 15:12

I love the Christmas decoration idea!

They are not specifically legal, just a little silly thing akin to that

I know this is a typo, but it did make me laugh... plenty of non-legal suggestions for you OP, perhaps a couple of 'special brownies'?

I'd love some pic n mix/cake - anything I can snack on on the journey home/before bed. If it's going to be a boozy affair, maybe some water too? What about a small bottle of bubbles, the type you give kids? Or maybe a little game of some some kind that could be got out at the table?
