I find it remarkable that there are posters who think that we, the general public, should have access to these athlete's medical records and the test results.
No. This will not happen and it should not happen.
The only reason we know the specific DSD that Semenya had, for instance, is because Semenya went to court to overturn the regulation that demanded suppression of testosterone to allow Semenya to continue to claim gold medals. It was there that the DSD and Semenya's testosterone levels were released in witness statements.
If some posters are seriously expecting to have the full details before they feel they can make any decision on this issue, those posters are going to be disappointed. Maybe forever disappointed.
To protect female athletes, we need to work with what we know. The IBA has now released two statements about this. They have stated as clearly as they can without crossing the line in giving personal medical history.
Their statement had two parts.
These two athletes failed the initial eligibility test. To be eligible to compete in the IBA competitions female competitors need to be XX. That is the first part.
Secondly, the IBA claim that their tests showed that these athletes had physical advantage over female athletes. This is as clear as the IBA can make it to say these athletes have both gone through male puberty to get those advantages.
No female competitor is going to be excluded because they 'have an advantage'. The IBA would certainly have lost any appeals made against such a decision and rightfully. Neither of these athletes appealed the decision. Because it was clear in the IBA policy.
