To think the Khelif issue is now raising more big questions in sport

Biological men should not be fighting women how is this even happening ?? Two 'women' failed eligibility tests by the IBA. Yet the IOC deem them suitable it's mind boggling

Khelif is a man. What consequences will there be in their home country?

@1apenny2apenny I assume it means her family treated her as a daughter, so female pronouns, female name, female toilets, introduced her as a girl. Also depending on culture there may have been differences in how they were treated

You sound confused... bro

Lol

Sorry, your post tickled me. A bit of relief in a serious topic - we are talking about women, mainly WoC, being put in danger and missing out in sports and livelihoods in order to make room for men.

Which makes me think - I grew up in a part of the world where Carini and Khalef would have be considered the same ethnicity. I find it interesting that you see Carini as white but not Khalef, and are focusing on that difference as the issue here. I appreciate things can be different from an American perspective.

Poster attempts to turn self into pretzel. Fails and ends up as miserable lump of dough.

protectourchildren · 02/08/2024 10:12

Women who identify as trans or non-binary, as they are women, can obviously participate in women's sports as long as they're not taking performance enhancing drugs.

I.e. the same rules as for other women.

Some transmen choose to take testosterone. This is a performance enhancing drug, constitutes doping and if they choose to do this they then may not be able to complete.

Simple.

I'd be wary of giving the poster what he clearly wants so desperately...

What a lot of sun light this is generating - jut looked at the Mail on line and they are giving this issue a lot of coverage.

They weren’t forced, and can you explain how it’s my world view that transwomen, males with DSDs AND transmen can fight in the womens boxing?! Please do explain that one.

I’m not saying this person is trans. Trans is not the issue in this case. This person is not a woman, they have male chromosomes and should not be competing in women’s sport. They are putting women’s lives at risk in doing so and it should never have been allowed to happen. They know they are male and have gone into the competition as a women regardless.. That’s on them. Their sex status was already publicised last year and the Algerian authorities and public already know about it.

It’s not for women to risk brain damage or death because of an oppressive regime in Algeria or anywhere else. Women are not lesser-than support animals for men. Check your misogyny.

Inlaw · 02/08/2024 10:14

The issue is unscrupulous coaches seeking out people with DSDs specifically to cheat.

Yes and how long has this been going on for now? 5/10 years? How long does it take to raise/ train an athlete?

They are going to have to be quick to sort this or no females will be given the opportunity to even train let alone win.

The background to that decision is interesting. The IOC claimed all sorts of reasons but only made the decision after the IBA had decided to exclude two males from female competition. The IBA issued a lengthy statement about everything they did to comply with IOC demands but the IOC still weren't satisfied. I think this raises questions about the real reason the IOV decided to strip the IBA of recognition as an international governing body for boxing.

Thanks for posting. I hadn't realised.

The IOC criteria was having 'F' in a passport.

Still no public evidence she has X and Y chromosome, yet everyone seems to knows she is a man, has X and Y chromosome, went through male puberty, shaves, has a penis and knows she is a man and is active cheater.

This may be true, but we do not know and mob mentality means public is judge and jury and executioner with no facts. No male should ever be competing against a female and I feel desperately sorry for the Italian.

Yet the hate and vitriol for the Algerian when we do not know the facts is shameful. The IOC should never have let it get to this and has failed both athletes. They are both human beings.

ChateauMargaux · 02/08/2024 10:18

1999, the IOC dropped sex verification from their eligibility requirements,

2009, it became clear that this issue had not gone away.

2019: The Court of Arbitration in Sport, clearly set out the facts that discrimination on the basis of biological sex was a legitimate measure to protect the female class.

2021: IOC removes the requirements for compliance with testosterone levels and prioritises inclusion.

2023: IAAF implements 2.5nmol /l as the testosterone limit for the female category and excludes competitors who have been through male puberty. Swimming, Cycling, Rugby and others, follow. FIFA do not.

2023: IOC ceases the recognition of IBA. The Paris Boxing Unit does not require athletes to reach a determined maximum level of testosterone not does it refer to male puberty when describing eligibility to participate in the female category. It refers to legal gender.

2024: IOC directs journalists to avoid questioning gender or sex traits or publicly explore the details of any individual athlete.

2024: 4 competitors who have previously been excluded from other international competitions on the basis of their biological sex have been cleared by their respective sporting organisations and the IOC to participate in the female class. 2 in boxing, 2 in football.

Very simply all women competing in high-level sport are going to need a DNA test.

It’s a shame for those with DSDs raised as girls who will no longer be able to compete due to their XY chromosomes.

I don’t see much other option though. How can you sensibly run events with male competitors.

This has been an issue for several years now, the lack of a resolution is because each sport / country has their own rules and the IOC doesn’t enforce a specific standard of testing across all sports.

This is not a transgender identity question - as with Caster Semenya, these competitors have probably lived their whole lives thinking they are female.

Well said. People are making this into a trans issue. The athletes are not trans, they have never identified as males. A sensible discussion needs to take place surrounding testing and how to determine fairness.

This competitor could go ahead and do a cheek swab test and publicise the results to put all this to an end, if female.

Its a conundrum why they haven't done this isn't it?
