To ask what ‘far right’ means to you?

Let’s not make this a Southport thread, just a political one. I consider myself a centrist and voted Lib Dem (to get us back in EU but that’s another story).

There’s been a lot of talk of ‘far right’ on here over the last few days, but very few observations on what far right actually means. To me it means things like capital punishment, enforced religion, open state misogyny, a blanket ban on abortion, homosexuality being outlawed, that sort of thing.

To me, having justified concerns about immigration, having views on new house building, voting Conservative or disapproving of Just Stop Oil protestors doesn’t make you ‘far right’. Centre or right of centre perhaps, but not far right.

What do you think?

Have you not noticed the antisemitism by the far left recently?

Can you give an example of current antisemitism by the far left.

Your posts are really not as clever as you think they are.

And yours don't make any sense.
Why don't you engage with the debate rather than just post cryptic digs?

You are proving their exact point.

suburberphobe · 01/08/2024 20:03

Do you have to be white to be far right?

No. Check Indian politics.

It's ok if you don't understand it, I wasn't addressing you.

FayeGreener · 01/08/2024 20:03

I mean it is possible, for example, to be anti mass-immigration from a left-wing perspective. Marx disapproved of cheap foreign labour. He talks about it in Das Kapital.

Yes, the Japanese. Amazing how they don't come in for the usual flack.

And what a stable society they appear to be. Something to be envied.

I’m sorry. Am I reading this right? You think Saudi and Europe are equally horrible?

That is not what I said. I said that it is equally horrible in terms of its affect, which it is on women, unless you think Stephen (wife assaulter) Yaxley-Lennon is a shining example of feminism.

For absence of doubt, Saudi is as horrible in its own way but the cultural bases of the Left and Right wings in Europe are different to those in Saudi and some other states.

Tommy Robinson supporters, nazi sympathisers, anti semites, racists, I guess trump or Farage supporters.

Wish I knew! Suspect it’s something to do with attack the person, avoid the debate etc

Far Right also means blaming immigrants / immigration / Muslims for all your problems.

Blanket blaming “others” in that way is the same framing Nazi Germany used to justify the Kristallnacht.

And it can get in the fucking sea with Farage, Tice, Grimes, Atherton, Reform, “Robinson”, and all the other fuckwits paid by Russia to destabilise the UK.

funinthesun19 · 01/08/2024 20:07

That what you mentioned about blanket ban on abortions. People who hold this view are in the far right category. Some of these people will be all against racism, homophobia etc. But then they will come out with some right wing shite about how abortion should be completely banned and show themselves up. 🤦🏼‍♀️ 👎🏻 They might not be a racist but they’re sexist and against women.

StripedPiggy · 01/08/2024 20:11

I agree, OP.

Thinking immigration, both legal & illegal, is far too high & supporting legally enforced caps on numbers ≠ far right.
Supporting free speech, including by people you dislike who say things you disagree with ≠ far right.
Supporting much lower levels of taxation, smaller government, benefit cuts, some level of NHS privatisation ≠ far right.

Supporting racial or religious segregation or discrimination, forced repatriation of immigrants etc etc = far right.

Uricon2 · 01/08/2024 20:11

How much do you actually care about anti Semitism @Rainbowsponge

I see. So the far left wanting to show support for Gaza is anti semitism. I imagine they support terrorism too.

That’s what it’s not the same as, but doesn’t further, I mean ‘engage with’ ‘the debate’ . What does far right mean to you?

VividQuoter · 01/08/2024 20:14

Not sure to be honest. Have not see it in real life...very moderate and sweet where we live, thanks God

People with ideologies rooted in communism or Marxism (to me). Jeremy Corbyn is I would say nearly far left. But not quite. Because I have nuanced thinking.
