To ask what ‘far right’ means to you?

Let’s not make this a Southport thread, just a political one. I consider myself a centrist and voted Lib Dem (to get us back in EU but that’s another story).

There’s been a lot of talk of ‘far right’ on here over the last few days, but very few observations on what far right actually means. To me it means things like capital punishment, enforced religion, open state misogyny, a blanket ban on abortion, homosexuality being outlawed, that sort of thing.

To me, having justified concerns about immigration, having views on new house building, voting Conservative or disapproving of Just Stop Oil protestors doesn’t make you ‘far right’. Centre or right of centre perhaps, but not far right.

What do you think?

Why would the poster need to be tolerant of the people “protesting” in Southport? Which wasn’t a protest at all, just a violent display of toxic masculinity and racism.

I wonder if death penalty is more about authoritarian states rather than just far right states. Singapore has the death penalty.

I don’t know people fling far right at the Conservatives and they really aren’t. Incompetent yeah I’d agree with that but not far right.

Pretty much, far left has lost all meaning as well.

This is similar to when people claim ‘you can’t say anything these days without being called a racist’, spoiler alert, they’re almost always a racist.

It’s a ridiculously-misused term. If Jordan Peterson is “far right” then what was Hitler? Far far right? Super-far Right?

According to the dictionary far right just means the extreme end of right wing. Right wing is defined as:

the section of a political party or system that advocates free enterprise and private ownership, and typically favours socially traditional ideas; the conservative group or section.

Honestly I am not sure it really means anything anymore. It used to but now it's just one of those words that gets thrown around arbitrarily. See also - far left, woke, socialist, liberal, fascist et al.

Op, what's your point? You seem to be trying to shut anyone down who had the (rightly so) view of the far right being white supremacist racists, mob like to their "leaders" misogynistic, yobs.

It’s an odd topic, because you say you don’t want to make it about Southport but the comments regarding “the far right” in recent days have been about the violence in Southport.
So are you saying it’s being banded about too easily, and these men, spurred on by Tommy Robinson and Andrew Tate on twitter, are in fact not far right to you but have justified concerns?

No. As previously stated, the government of Saudi Arabia are far right, as are others like Modi in India.

I don’t think that’s the case, just that’s the flavour of ‘far right’ we are used to as we live in the UK. I expect travel to one of many other countries would change their minds.

I disagree I don't think any of them where rioting for any reason other then to be violent,abusive and to destroy property and maybe to get at the police. I don't believe for one second they gave a shit about them little girls. The same as all the people who went down there to film tiktoks and spent the whole time saying tap the screen share the live and then saying to their mates all excited iv got 5k watching. I haven’t mentioned them at all. I want to hear what constitutes far right in the minds of posters here. To me it’s far wider than ‘white and BNP’ (although yes that fits as well). It’s just interesting seeing the mental gymnastics done to avoid discussing the potential of far right in one of the many other much more conservative countries than the UK.

Yes. And especially if they’re white men. PARTICULARLY if they’re working class white men.
