To ask what ‘far right’ means to you?

Let’s not make this a Southport thread, just a political one. I consider myself a centrist and voted Lib Dem (to get us back in EU but that’s another story).

There’s been a lot of talk of ‘far right’ on here over the last few days, but very few observations on what far right actually means. To me it means things like capital punishment, enforced religion, open state misogyny, a blanket ban on abortion, homosexuality being outlawed, that sort of thing.

To me, having justified concerns about immigration, having views on new house building, voting Conservative or disapproving of Just Stop Oil protestors doesn’t make you ‘far right’. Centre or right of centre perhaps, but not far right.

What do you think?

Nope. The damage done by the far-left is worse as it’s more insidious and calculated. Its biggest proponents cloak themselves in what they believe to be untouchable moral propriety. I know which I’d rather deal with.

Could you give some examples? There isn't much far left activity in the UK as far as I'm aware. There are a few small political parties such as the Communist Party but what damage have they done exactly?

TomDaleysShavedBalls · 01/08/2024 23:57

I think it’s stupid to stereotype and dismiss people who get drawn towards extremism.

People who have questions and concerns that are not fully formed yet, getting dismissed as ‘far right’ or ‘far left’ before even exploring whether they have some legitimacy, means they are shamed and silenced and become more vulnerable to extremists who offer opportunities articulate them.

Started out with faux wide eyed innocence, ended with " Let's blame all PoC for the act of one man and make them bear collective responsibility". And then some diversion about NZ politics.

And a lot of lookatme lookatme lookatme answer me dammit type neediness.

Lentilweaver · 02/08/2024 00:00

Oh well @Bellsandthistle as a brown person I would rather deal with the far left who believe men are women, than a skinhead who wants to burn my house down because he thinks anyone not white is not British. No doubt some white people feel differently because they will never be targets or have a petrol bomb thrown through their door.

Groups that would identify as left or anarchist have being very active shutting down feminist meetings, creating intimidating and hostile atmospheres, making academics need to leave their employment for they mental well-being.

TomDaleysShavedBalls · 02/08/2024 00:03

What about Sarah-Jane/Alan Baker?

echt · 02/08/2024 00:03

Rainbowsponge · 01/08/2024 18:59

So, Australia? China? Japan? All of which have very strict immigration laws compared to here?

You know fine well what the far right is.

Australia has a Labour government and no history of far right government.

TomDaleysShavedBalls · 02/08/2024 00:04

What about Tara Flick wood?

Ridiculousme · 02/08/2024 00:05

Actually, this is just another trans thing…they would rather side with racists than possibly have anything to do with people who aren’t consumed with all things trans. I did recognise the arguing style actually….taking a sentence in isolation and berating the poster for it.

Lentilweaver · 02/08/2024 00:06

I am GC as they come, but just because the far right know what women are, doesn't mean they will treat them better than the far left. Like voting for Trump because he knows what a woman is. Yes, he does. He also knows how to deny them abortions and keep them in the kitchen.

TomDaleysShavedBalls · 02/08/2024 00:08

What about Dana Rivers?

CassieMaddox · 02/08/2024 00:09

Lentilweaver · 01/08/2024 23:36

This is like those pathetic threads on male violence where 3 women are slaughtered by a man with a crossbow, and NAMALTS pop up to complain about some woman being snide to them in the office. Self righteousness is NOT comparable to rioting thugs from any community.

Exactly

Faux outrage?

I’m utterly perplexed, actually. I don’t even like Tommy Robinson or Nigel Farage, but I can’t fathom how someone could actually think that the U.K. under either of those men would be, for women, akin to Saudi Arabia.

You are familiar with my tactics? What tactics? I’m baffled by what you said, and all your responses since. No one owes anyone anything, but your lack of any kind of explanation speaks volumes.

I asked you what you thought would change in the U.K. for women under Nigel Farage that would result in them experiencing the same oppression as women in Saudi. You responded by telling me to stop defending thugs. Perhaps you should learn how to respond appropriately.

You see me? Lol. Let me guess, I’m a far right fascist? Is that right?

Edited

Noone thinks that. You are strawmanning pp, there is no reason to do that other than to stir up trouble

What does that have to do with the far right exactly?

Lentilweaver · 02/08/2024 00:12

The diversions on this thread! Right wing racist thugs in London and Southport, so let me bring up Dana Rivers, an obscure transgender murderer in the US.

What about Tommy fucking Robinson? What about Andrew Tate? What about Brian Spencer?

Violent men are the problem and the far right is not the answer. Fuck off.

Quite. 🙄
Transparent at this point.
Get off a women's forum and get a life.

I wasn't aware that TRA identity with communism or socialism. I thought they were a bunch of misogynists whose only ideology was erasing women and promoting the Trans agenda at every level.

Do you have any more examples of the damage the far left are currently doing?

Littlepinkstarsbyradish · 02/08/2024 00:19

I've not read the whole thread, so im sorry if this isnt linked to the current train of thought, but based on the OG post - i've always wondered if we allow the same level of flexibility on political thought as for other issues? Like, i might be considered centrist on some things but quite lefty on others. Can someone be "far right" on some issues but not others? I dont know the answer but would be interested in people's thoughts

From my reading of what was said, I don’t agree.

But then again, if that is truly the case, you could have just replied to my first comment saying that, rather than accusing me of defending thugs and everything else.

I don’t know how else to say this - I quite simply asked a question regarding something that was said that I considered to be absolute nonsense.

I’m not interested in strawmanning, stirring up trouble, using tactics etc etc whatever else you’ve accused me of. Some of us aren’t chronically online, arguing with others.

Political beliefs tend to be on a spectrum. You could argue that the Rwanda scheme was far right but the Conservatives weren't. So it's perfectly feasible to hold a mixture of views. However the further right you go the less moderate you'd become.

Racist thickos who fall for any old claptrap if an old white man that rapes women says it.

Vile the whole lot of them. I’d take a million immigrants over any of those old rioting cunts.

Look at the photos from Southport, they are NOT old. I know the narrative is that 'oh it's only the over 60s who support this' but that's just nonsense, and ageist nonsense at that.

Bellsandthistle · 01/08/2024 23:33

I’m not sure it is.
The label of “far right” has been hurled at women (and some men) for opposing men in women’s sport.
We have to acknowledge that it is often used as a label in an attempt to shut up valid concerns.

I am a biological realist, a bit GC and a total feminist.. Gender Critical Feminism is too far to the left for me.

No one has ever accused me of being far right for my feminist views. Just as no one has ever accused me of being far right because I am white, working class.

Still standing on what I said.

This whole post is insane 😂
If you haven’t been called a far-right bigot or literal Nazi for declaring women are female, are you even “a bit” GC?
