Lin Yu-ting and Imane Khelif: Boxers cleared for Paris Olympics - BBC Sport

They are both biological males. Its to IOC, International Olympic committee. There will be a protest and i know another female Irish boxer has pulled out but surely this cant stand. The women could be seriously injured.

Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-ting

Lin Yu-ting and Imane Khelif: Boxers cleared for Paris Olympics

Two athletes are cleared to compete at the women's boxing at the Paris Olympics, having been disqualified from last year's World Championships for failing to meet eligibility criteria.

What happens to Angela now? Does she lose her chance at the Olympics and age out?

Kucinghitam · 01/08/2024 11:48

I'm amazed nobody on The Right Side of History has yet appeared to scold Angela Carini for just not trying hard enough, and furthermore for hurting her opponent's feelz.

And worth remembering, he chose to hit her like that with the whole world's press watching, and with the public increasingly concerned about letting men identify into women's sports.

It is extremely likely that he pulled that punch and was moderating his performance. This match was his idea of acceptable male violence in women's sports, that he expects to be indulged and celebrated.

"This match was his idea of acceptable male violence in women's sports, that he expects to be indulged and celebrated."

This is very true, however you try to excuse this male athlete's performance, this is the bare and blunt truth. This athlete knows exactly what they are doing and why they were excluded by the IBA and still chose to compete here today.

There’s no confirmation these men have DSDs.

This boxer failed sex testing at a world boxing competition last year. The IOC decided to abandon that testing. We don’t know the details of why he failed, but he did. He is not female.

UpThePankhurst · 01/08/2024 11:49

Well she's just had her nose broken by a man live on international tv, having let him fight her because his feelings and wishes to use her mattered, and she didn't.

I'm not sure how much harder she can try really.

Brave, brave woman. She was shouting "it's not fair" in Italian

I'm glad she hasn't been silenced. I'm hoping other women in her category will stand by her & boycott.

HappierTimesAhead · 01/08/2024 11:39

Did he 'celebrate' or look happy? How could he possibly feel proud of this is beyond me

I think he smirked at one point.
I'm gobsmacked, it actually looked like he was expecting a handshake from her after his 'victory'.

She just pushed past him.

It really is a Bryson moment. However, people did try to defend Adam Bryson. People will try to defend these two athletes.

Naunet · 01/08/2024 11:50

The IOC, brave enough to force women to fight men, but not brave enough to own it. Fucking cowards.

I think the world has finally woken up however as we've just seen it's too little too late.. How have we ended up here?

We know it wasn’t because of testosterone levels, for everyone tying to pretend he’s just a woman with high T.

henlake7 · 01/08/2024 11:52

I never understand why transgender women even participate TBH. If you have any sense of sportsmanship then you know even if you 'win' you havent really won. You have basically exploited a loop hole and given yourself a massive unfair advantage.
I mean it would suck to have to give up a sport you were passionate about but at the same time how would you ever feel that you had won?

LaPalmaLlama · 01/08/2024 11:52

They should all pull out and get Elon Musk to host them a side competition in Paris at another venue. And next Olympics they should just do the same thing- wait for the draw to be announced and then all just not show up and go and replicate it somewhere else.

Why are men being allowed to compete against women?!

I’ve boycotted the games bc of The Netherlands allowing a convicted rapist to compete. I imagine this is 2 men who now “identify as women” so must not be upset in any way, at any time and in any form. This must be women’s boxing so they’re allowed to compete as women and I assume it’s just the luck of the draw who gets to fight against who.

To posters using the phrase 'women with high testosterone', please stop. This is misinformation that has been spread by organisations who use this kind of language to obscure the facts.

NO FEMALE PERSON HAS TESTOSTERONE IN THE MALE RANGE without it being a very serious medical condition that may be involve a tumour. Women with PCOS do not have what people refer to as 'male range' testosterone.

In adulthood, circulating testosterone concentrations do not come close to overlapping between females (0.1–1.7 nmol/L) and males (7.7–29.4 nmol/L).

Bears repeating. There is no female in existence who has anywhere near the level of testosterone that men have, even men with DSDs which mean low testosterone, or men who take oestrogen.

Some women can consistently show blood tests with higher than average levels of testosterone - I am one of them - but they are naturally occuring higher than average levels for women. Those results are still MULTIPLE FACTORS lower than even the lowest levels of tested tesoterone for men.

Yes I know he’s not female. But there is not information about whether he has a DSD or is just a man claiming to be female for the sake of it.

I know right! Where are those guys? They are usually here by page 2.

MonsteraMama · 01/08/2024 11:55

Beeinalily · 01/08/2024 11:39

Exactly that. Good for her!

It's not really "good for her' though is it? It's fucking devastating for her, all that training and work and effort to be pitted against a man and have no choice but to throw it away, possibly her only chance at the Olympics, because she couldn't risk life changing injuries being punched in the face by a man. I don't think "good for her" is the appropriate response to what is an absolutely gutting, heart breaking decision for her to be forced to make. Her options were quit or be battered on live TV by a man. She didn't have a choice. Being forced into this is not "good for her".

This isn't some grand gesture or powerfully symbolic stance that she's chosen to take for the empowerment of women, this isn't a fist in the air and a middle finger to the Olympics, this is a young 25 year old woman having no choice whatsoever but to throw away her dream because she's been failed by the governing body that should be protecting her. It's tragic.

You can’t expect reason from the people in this thread. They have a very narrow definition of what a woman is and should be.

gailforce2 · 01/08/2024 11:57

Have just been reading about a female volleyball player 17 who was left paralysed with brain damage by a transgender opponent. So a lifetime of consequences for her.

CantDealwithChristmas · 01/08/2024 11:57

I'm so angry about this
