Lin Yu-ting and Imane Khelif: Boxers cleared for Paris Olympics - BBC Sport

They are both biological males. Its to IOC, International Olympic committee. There will be a protest and i know another female Irish boxer has pulled out but surely this cant stand. The women could be seriously injured.

Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-ting

Lin Yu-ting and Imane Khelif: Boxers cleared for Paris Olympics

Two athletes are cleared to compete at the women's boxing at the Paris Olympics, having been disqualified from last year's World Championships for failing to meet eligibility criteria.

Angela Carini.

That is her name. She was brave and wise to stop. Yet, I believe at least one presenter has said she has stopped because of her father's death.... um.... probably not.

littlbrowndog · 01/08/2024 11:40

Her hopes and dreams shattered. Am so fucking upset by this. To see her cry 😢

Flowers4me · 01/08/2024 11:40

Shame on the IOC for allowing this to happen. Brave woman for ending it; she's the winner in my opinion but she should never have been put in this position.

UpThePankhurst · 01/08/2024 11:40

That poor bloody woman, it's abhorrent.

The stroking of men's egos over the actual bodily harm of women, and there are significant consequences for the women if they dare to resist or try to put their safety and rights above a man's feels. The IOC have completely betrayed these women athletes on a binary, sexed basis.

BoreOfWhabylon · 01/08/2024 11:38

Brave, brave woman. She was shouting "it's not fair" in Italian

Was she? That is also very brave.

MeouwCat · 01/08/2024 11:41

Who is winning, I can only get the rowing?

Fetlocksblowininthewind · 01/08/2024 11:41

This was the first thing I thought about when I got up this morning.

I have been so worried about the women going into the ring since I heard about this, genuinely worried that we were going to end up with a televised major injury or death.

46 seconds and punched square in the face, bloody hell! Poor woman, I'm so so glad she's alright!

ilovemoney · 01/08/2024 11:42

Fight lasted 45 seconds. Carini took two big rights from KHelif and then pulled out visibly upset and angry. fell to her knees crying. Khelif then tried to comfort her (sicko) and she did not accept this (GOOD FOR HER).

I am so glad its over, she is safe that's the main thing.

What an obscene shit show.

Angela Carini.

That should become the boxing chant this Olympics. She's brave to face him, she's brave to take a punch, she's brave to walk away, she's brave not to congratulate him, she's brave to say "IT'S NOT FAIR". Heart of a lion, that woman.

Helleofabore · 01/08/2024 11:43

FFS! The pressure on Angela Carini is immense. I cannot imagine what the next female athlete who has to box this male athlete must feel.

Or what the female athlete who steps into the ring with Lin will feel.

And worth remembering, he chose to hit her like that with the whole world's press watching, and with the public increasingly concerned about letting men identify into women's sports.

It is extremely likely that he pulled that punch and was moderating his performance. This match was his idea of acceptable male violence in women's sports, that he expects to be indulged and celebrated.

gailforce2 · 01/08/2024 11:44

All competitors should be sex tested - it is a simple mouth swab then have a passport for competition.
That would be fair but the Olympics is not about fair competition is it? Not even the semblance of fairness.

JL690 · 01/08/2024 11:44

It is abhorrent. Bullying by the male boxer, bullying by the IOC. The only one to come out of that with any dignity was Angela Carini.

NotBadConsidering · 01/08/2024 11:46

There’s no confirmation these men have DSDs.

Helleofabore · 01/08/2024 11:46

To posters using the phrase 'women with high testosterone', please stop. This is misinformation that has been spread by organisations who use this kind of language to obscure the facts.

NO FEMALE PERSON HAS TESTOSTERONE IN THE MALE RANGE without it being a very serious medical condition that may be involve a tumour. Women with PCOS do not have what people refer to as 'male range' testosterone.

In adulthood, circulating testosterone concentrations do not come close to overlapping between females (0.1–1.7 nmol/L) and males (7.7–29.4 nmol/L).

Buffypaws · 01/08/2024 11:46

Well that competitor was sex tested and 'failed' the 'female' test and that doesn't leave a lot of other options for the great hulking man

Lucky for him the IOC is a pile of misogynists

It will take the death of a woman before this farce is ended. Shame on every official connected to the Olympics.

JackieGoodman · 01/08/2024 11:47

Angela Carini Flowers 💪🏅
(the true winner)

HeldAtHunPoint · 01/08/2024 11:47

The telegraph live article reports “We’re now being informed it’s a suspected broken nose by our man on the ground Oliver Brown”

That is sickening.

Newbutoldfather · 01/08/2024 11:47

YABU according to what you posted.

However, if you’d asked whether it was right or fair, it clearly isn’t. It is amateur boxing. The match is very short duration (4 x 2 minute rounds)and they will be wearing head guards. The gloves are also a light 10 ounces.

It is also stopped if a boxer is unable to defend themselves.

So I wouldn’t be scared for them but it is a total travesty of what sport should be about.

GrumpyPanda · 01/08/2024 11:47

youve987456 · 01/08/2024 10:52

Anyone know the history of these two? The article says they failed a testosterone test. It doesn't say anywhere they were born with a penis and testicles so I'm trying to understand there background and if they are actually trans?

The International Boxing Association has clarified it wasn't a testosterone test, which means most likely they did DNA testing. A separate Algerian sports association has said it's a case "just like Semenya." So these are athletes who were mistakenly diagnosed female at birth because of differences in sex development (DSD), and if it's just like Semenya with a condition called 5-ARD that means they have functioning internal testes resulting in male puberty and a testosterone level in the normal male range.

Cestfoutu · 01/08/2024 11:47

All the referees should refuse to participate. Much better than the women having to object or withdraw. Who would want to referee that ! (I know nothing about boxing, so apologies if they aren't called referees!)

BringMeTea · 01/08/2024 11:47

A fucking disgrace.
