Lin Yu-ting and Imane Khelif: Boxers cleared for Paris Olympics - BBC Sport

They are both biological males. Its to IOC, International Olympic committee. There will be a protest and i know another female Irish boxer has pulled out but surely this cant stand. The women could be seriously injured.

Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-ting

Lin Yu-ting and Imane Khelif: Boxers cleared for Paris Olympics

Two athletes are cleared to compete at the women's boxing at the Paris Olympics, having been disqualified from last year's World Championships for failing to meet eligibility criteria.

Stupid question but does this man have a penis?

Not a stupid question at all.

WetBandits · 01/08/2024 14:48

Darling, no.

Go and look at a man (any man that you know to 100% be a man!), their neck will look very different to that. The bit you have circled isn’t where the Adam’s Apple would be. Your own neck would look the same if someone took a photo of you right now at the same angle

If you can’t appreciate that these athletes are male by looking at them then I can’t help you. I have circled his Adam’s Apple, sticking out like a man’s does. There is nothing female about them when you get past the superficiality of some of Khelif’s photos. I bet their opponents had suspicions for years but were dismissed and told to keep quiet, like Lynsey Sharp.

vivainsomnia · 01/08/2024 14:53

Your posts are making you look a bit, erm, not very well informed
Certainly more informed than all those refereeing to transgender or that they are male just because their chromosomes are XY!

I don't know, let's just say that Richard Madeley entered the Women's 100m sprint competition at the Olympics and didn't win it. Would you conclude that men don't have a physical advantage over women when it comes to sport or would you conclude that Richard Madeley is just a really shit runner?
If 4 years later he suddenly beat everyone and was told that it's because he has a serious advantage from birth, yes, I'd really wonder why he was so bad despite his advantage a few years earlier.

NotBadConsidering · 01/08/2024 14:46

They have XY chromosomes. That has been confirmed. There is no such thing as “intersex”. There are males or females with DSDs. These are males. We don’t know if they have DSDs or are trans or chancers.

According to the boxing commentator on radio 5 no one has seen the tests it is saying they failed in 2021.

And then there is the Zambian women's football team and their various players who have failed the gender/sex eligibility test for the African football championship.

Helleofabore · 01/08/2024 14:55

Kitkatfiend31 · 01/08/2024 14:49

There has been a great discussion of this on radio 5. Much of it is currently unproven media hype. Wait for some certainty before condemning people. If it is all media hype they will still never be free from doubt when competing. If true then it will be dealt with but death threats etc are not OK.

There is no doubt that these two male athletes are male with a physical advantage.

The IBA released a statement overnight stating this was why they both were excluded from the female category of boxing under the IBA regulations. There is evidence already to be able to have such discussions.

They were tested in 2023, and the IBA has cited confidentiality for not publicly releasing the results specifically, other than to confirm they showed they are male.

Nonsense. They were banned from competing by the IBA after they were proven to have XY chromosones, a fact that THEY THEMSELVES did not dispute.

I’ll admit I am very confused as there isn’t much (or any) evidence to say that they are transwomen.

Googling both of them suggests that they were born female. They each have feminine qualities to their facial features and physiques. Androgynous haircuts and frequently broken noses, maybe, but they still look distinctly feminine. People say ‘you can’t tell’, but very often you can. Neither of them look like biological men.

Likely failed hormone testing if they’ve been using testosterone as a PED, which would be deserved as it is cheating, but I doubt very much that either of them is a transwoman.

Seriously you don't think that guy looks like a guy?
The IBA have banned both these men from women's competition. Yet the Olympic Committee allowed them based on their passports.

Wtf?

Back in the day females had to prove they were females, walk into a room, drop their pants. In front of a panel of doctors (nice)

Then blood tests came along.

Now they don't seem to bother checking.

Yes. Look up swyer syndrome

vivainsomnia · 01/08/2024 14:57

Without full access to their medical records, which none of us have any right to, nobody should really speculate
Exactly that. DSD might not come to light until teenagehood. That's many years identifying as one sex.

How can mners convinced themselves they know better than anyone with information and knowledge is beyond me!

A simple saliva swab test is sufficient. The IOC should bring that back.

I am sure it is already posted, but here you go:

https://www.iba.sport/news/statement-made-by-the-international-boxing-association-regarding-athletes-disqualifications-in-world-boxing-championships-2023/

As stated, the International Boxing Association (IBA) feels it appropriate at this prevalent time, to address recent media statements regarding those athletes Lin Yu-ting and Imane Khelif, particularly regarding their participation in the Paris Olympic Games 2024.

We wish to make the following points in these regards:

On 24 March 2023, IBA disqualified athletes Lin Yu-ting and Imane Khelif from the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships New Delhi 2023. This disqualification was a result of their failure to meet the eligibility criteria for participating in the women’s competition, as set and laid out in the IBA Regulations. This decision, made after a meticulous review, was extremely important and necessary to uphold the level of fairness and utmost integrity of the competition.

Point to note, the athletes did not undergo a testosterone examination but were subject to a separate and recognized test, whereby the specifics remain confidential. This test conclusively indicated that both athletes did not meet the required necessary eligibility criteria and were found to have competitive advantages over other female competitors.

The decision made by IBA on 24 March 2023, was subsequently ratified by the IBA Board of Directors on 25 March 2023. The official record of this decision can be accessed on the IBA website here IBA Board of Directors Meeting Minutes.
The disqualification was based on two tests conducted on both athletes as follows:

  • Test performed during the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in Istanbul 2022.
  • Test performed during the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in New Delhi 2023.
For clarification
  • Lin Yu-ting did not appeal the IBA’s decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), thus rendering the decision legally binding.
  • Imane Khelif initially appealed the decision to CAS but withdrew the appeal during the process, also making the IBA decision legally binding.

Our Committees have rigorously reviewed and endorsed the decision made during the World Championships. While IBA remains committed to ensuring competitive fairness in all of our events, we express concern over the inconsistent application of eligibility criteria by other sporting organizations, including those overseeing the Olympic Games. The IOC’s differing regulations on these matters, in which IBA is not involved, raise serious questions about both competitive fairness and athletes’ safety.

For clarification on why the IOC permits athletes with competitive advantages to compete in their events, we urge interested parties to seek answers directly from the IOC.

Yours sincerely,
International Boxing Association

I certainly hope this is the case. Most TRAs and their friends won't be able to resist crowing over it, because they are misogynists.

Well I appreciate nobody will give a shiny shit, but I’ve turned the tv off and will watch no more Olympics. I know it’s not much, but what else can I do?
