Lin Yu-ting and Imane Khelif: Boxers cleared for Paris Olympics - BBC Sport

They are both biological males. Its to IOC, International Olympic committee. There will be a protest and i know another female Irish boxer has pulled out but surely this cant stand. The women could be seriously injured.

Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-ting

Lin Yu-ting and Imane Khelif: Boxers cleared for Paris Olympics

Two athletes are cleared to compete at the women's boxing at the Paris Olympics, having been disqualified from last year's World Championships for failing to meet eligibility criteria.

Stupid question but does this man have a penis?

jellycakeandicecream · 01/08/2024 14:38

TheKeatingFive · 01/08/2024 14:35

Khelif also failed eligibility tests - no?

But regardless, as his appearance makes his sex quite obvious, I doubt anyone is falling for the 'he didn't know' line.

If it was so obvious, why did they compete at Tokoyo with literally no fuss made? Or the 2022 World Championships - again with no fuss made?

It's wild isn't it! I'm 5'9 & no delicate weakling, 3 son's with 2 at 6'2 (23 & 15) & one at 5'11 (17).

Last year I was playfighting with 17yo (15 at the time) & he punched me on the arm, a pulled playfight punch & it fucking hurt & left me with a bruise. He was absolutely mortified. By that age all are/were stronger than me. Sure, when it came to sneaking a little slap on him or a poke in the ribs I'm wilier & quicker but out & out strength? I've not a chance.

Should really add that I've been assaulted by adult men, one was even smaller than me. There's just no comparison 🤷🏼‍♀️

Exactly. Like you I have 3 (now adult) sons. I couldn't have physically constrained them from about 11/12 onwards. One of my son's is small in stature - he's my height and weighs less than me but a hell of a lot stronger.

Royals will 100% not get involved in this.
They can’t risk being accused of being transphobic… the anti royalists will have a field day twisting her words!

Why not?
Why are most people in authority not wanting to get involved for fear of upsetting a very small group-men who think they can change into a woman- and not worried about upsetting a very large group-women.

The tail is wagging the fucking dog!

That you’ve googled pictures and think they don’t look like men. Look at the picture on this article. When do women have Adam’s apples like this?

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/article/2024/jul/30/ioc-defends-allowing-boxers-who-failed-gender-tests-to-compete-paris-olympics

Truly, no I don’t think they look like men, just very androgynous. There aren’t any obvious Adam’s apples on the photos you’ve shown, unfortunately. That’s actually what I was hunting for when I was Googling!

It’s entirely possible that they have a DSD condition which may or may not have been apparent at birth (it isn’t always!) Without full access to their medical records, which none of us have any right to, nobody should really speculate.

It’s a bit off to declare that they are biological men who want to abuse women when nobody knows fuck all about either of them.

Whenwillitgetwarm · 01/08/2024 14:38

I’m always on the side of people living their life as they wish…as long as it doesn’t infringe on the rights of others or harms others.

As a result I’ve come into threads to argue against offensive and hurtful transphobic language. However, allowing biological males to box biological females is completely wrong. There’s a big difference between dressing as a woman and punching one in the face. The IOC has sanctioned male violence against woman and it’s disgusting. All women boxes should refuse to compete. I know this will be hard as they have trained long and hard but they will not be safe unless competition is halted and the rules re written to ban biological males and intersex people from physical competition against women.

Caerulea · 01/08/2024 14:38

vivainsomnia · 01/08/2024 14:20

What I don't get is if indeed, the circumstances of her sex is so obviously that she is stronger, why did she only come at 33rd place in 2019 world championship?

I think it is sad that clearly most posters here are crying outrage and linking this to male violence against women without even bothering taking any time to do even the most basic research on what DSD mean.

I'd wager Khelif wasn't that skilled a boxer. Possibly even lazy if they just didn't have to try that hard. Potentially a highly skilled female boxer could out maneuver a shit male one providing they can keep out of arms reach.

Since 2019 Khelif has started winning things & now they are at the Olympics so you might assume their skills have been tightened up.

Two female boxers have BOTH said they've never been hit 'like that' before, and these are women who get punched for fun, for sport! They are pretty damn good judges of what it feels like to get punched by another woman. I hope, for them, that they've never been punched by a man (or a DSD body that's been through male puberty but was assigned female a birth. The only time that phrase counts) so this would have been a serious shock - and it was.

Make of that what you will.

That actually doesn't matter.

Because having a penis is not the defining body part for whether a person is male or female.

Cuppateatea · 01/08/2024 14:39

Disgusting. Who the hell thinks this is right? It’s bloody criminal.

But they are biological men who want to abuse women- they are men boxing in women's classes. It's the very definition of biological men wanting to abuse women.

Thewildthingsarewithme · 01/08/2024 14:40

@Tandora why do you hate women? It’s not transphobic to say biological males shouldn’t compete in female sports. Women with PCOS are of course still women. Biological males born with differences in sexual development are still men. It’s so simple and it’s disingenuous to suggest otherwise

sunflowrsngunpowdr · 01/08/2024 14:40

Bearbookagainandagain · 01/08/2024 10:43

Unfair yes, totally. "Scared for her" is a bit dramatic, but I guess scaremongering is really the aim of this post.

Remember the man who got in to the ring with a female MMA fighter a few years ago and cracked her skull open? It was like watching someone throwing a rag doll around. Either that will happen again this time or it will be a fixed competition to try and convince the dull minded that there really is no difference between men and women.

Helleofabore · 01/08/2024 14:39

it was more a question about some PPs comments that seem to indicate he didn’t know he was male up to the DNA test. Obviously once he knew he was male he shouldn’t have been in the women’s boxing- it was a matter of interest whether he always knew he was a man.

There are loads of potential reasons for this. Tokyo Olympic boxing was also run by the IOC who don’t want to test people. There could have been suspicions but no progress on figuring out how to broach the idea of testing. There could have been fears about legal ramifications. The Semenya case cost a lot of money through the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Then you add ambivalence about women’s concerns, sexism, misogyny etc etc.

TheKeatingFive · 01/08/2024 14:33

I'd prefer to see high profile sports stars take it up. But there are some awful cowards out there (Gary Lineker springs to mind).

Exactly… as I said above I think all the female boxers should stand in the ring together live on TV & say they refuse to fight opponents who have the physical advantage of testosterone .. be that
from being a biological male or injecting it… The male boxers should also stand beside the women and back them for the sake of the sports future!

But we do know something very important-they want to get into a ring and punch a woman. Do you need to know anything else.

Believe me, if those medical records said they were 100% female, as female as the Queen Mother, then you would be seeing those records-make no mistake,

FunnyLady27 · 01/08/2024 14:42

Aaaaah slowly slowly the KIND women are waking up to the fruits of their kindnesses. These arent claiming TRANS , but cheats nonetheless. This is the kind if story that has to happen with a woman being beaten for sport by a man, this is what it takes for most women to wake up! but i fear the country is so entrenched it eill be a long way back to sanity, i was optimistic when CASS report cane out but look how the ideologs influence the BMA!

There's also the fact that people DID talk about it at the time and were told to shut up and know their place etc. See also Laurel Hubbard.

The answer is sex segregated sports and back to sex testing if that is what it takes to ensure safety and dignity for women.

Not difficult at all.

I was being sarcastic

Thank you but I’ll stay right here , on mumsnet, and continue to defend the rights and dignity of trans , sex variant and gender non conforming individuals , no matter how much vitriol you throw at me, because Lord only knows it is desperately needed.

Good for you,I hope the lads appreciate your efforts.

Where is your proof that they are biological men? How do you know that they are not intersex? Would you say that an intersex person who outwardly presented and identified as male but had some XX chromosomes amongst some XY chromosomes was biologically female?
