Lin Yu-ting and Imane Khelif: Boxers cleared for Paris Olympics - BBC Sport

They are both biological males. Its to IOC, International Olympic committee. There will be a protest and i know another female Irish boxer has pulled out but surely this cant stand. The women could be seriously injured.

Lin Yu-ting and Imane Khelif: Boxers cleared for Paris Olympics

Two athletes are cleared to compete at the women's boxing at the Paris Olympics, having been disqualified from last year's World Championships for failing to meet eligibility criteria.

Also to clarify - it’s not gender tests and gender categories. Gender is a social construct which varies and is dependent on the society in which you live.

The tests and categories are based on biological sex. Not gender.

A female athlete reportedly had her nose broken within the first seconds of the bout.

And you are dismissing the reason why this happened and to minimise the fear collectively that female boxer's feel. You just seem very ill informed to be honest.

I may well be ignorant, but I find it hard to believe that elite levels boxers are afraid of getting punched.

I would have thought that the vast majority of boxers, of whatever gender, get hurt when they are starting out. I would have though that being able to continue to fight with a load of injuries is an essential skill for a successful boxer...

Fair enough, the ones that get to the olympics will obviously win more than most. But at the cost of their opponents.

To be clear, I find boxing in general to be disgusting. It's by definition violent, and inherently dangerous.

But to pick on these individual fights, while being apparently unconcerned about the others, just seems unreasonable.

CriticalCondition · 01/08/2024 13:44

Steve Bunce said everyone knew about the Algerian and what 'her' status was. And then he went on to basically accuse Carini of faking injury.

Gymnopedie · 01/08/2024 13:44

But these two people in question are certainly not going to be the most dangerous fighters in the women's competition.

You've lost me. They are going to be the most dangerous fighters in their weight category. Angela Carini is not going to box in the higher weight categories because she weighs less. The women in the heavier categories are going to fight other women around the same weight.

So wtf are you talking about?

For the avoidance of doubt, this is the boxer:

😦 And at woman has had her nose broken on the global stage at the hands of ideology.
We have all seen this, we are speaking openly, condemning. Much more needs to be done. The world cannot stand by & watch passively. We need to boycott & hit these events in the pocket.
When organisers are not making a profit rules will change & sports we will have female XX only in women's sports & male XY in mens.

Both biological MALES while one is claiming to be female? So how come they're both allowed in? I'm all for mixed gender equality in matches, be it boxing, wrestling, martial arts etc. WWE do excellent biological men vs. biological women wrestling matches but this boxing match doesn't make sense!

But wrestling is a soap opera, it's fake. I mean yes there is risk of injury but it's more choreographed than a ballet!

It's not remotely comparable I'm afraid.

TheCosyNavyViper · 01/08/2024 13:46

NotBadConsidering · 01/08/2024 13:34

Why do you continue to say “we” don’t need to be scared when we have just witnessed evidence of the harm a mediocre man can do to a woman because of his biology? There is actual footage showing why “we” should be scared. It’s happened!

But that happens all the time in boxing. It's just boxing, people punch each other and get hurt

Helleofabore · 01/08/2024 13:46

Fetlocksblowininthewind · 01/08/2024 13:43

Bone density, muscle structure, reach, heart, lung, and on and on.

I read here that men punch 2.6, or 163% (I think was the quoted percentage) times harder than women.

You are just wrong.

Apparently Fetlock, all that matters is the boxing is a sport that will mean some people are injured, and that weight categories are all the matters.... because... well, no.

All I can come up with is someone confidently arguing a significantly misinformed position that lacks logical integrity when you start to analyse it.

TheKeatingFive · 01/08/2024 10:37

Because it's her career and she may never get a chance to compete in the Olympics again.

The governing bodies have failed women here. Let's not blame the victims or expect them to throw away their careers to fix the problem.

They have failed more than women.
They have failed sport by turning the Olympics into a farce because if the Olympics are not about fairness and a level playing field then they are nothing , they are a travesty.

You are of course right but lots of media organisations have style guidelines that change how they report this.

The Guardian insists on using gender, not sex, for example.

LordPercyPercy · 01/08/2024 13:47

This thread is populated by the usual individuals, driven by transphobia and transphobic ideologies , now coming after people with variations in sex characteristics

There are no "variances of sex characteristics", there are disorders of sexual development. So a man with DSD is still a man.

perhaps next they will be coming after women with PCOS

That comparison is both stupid and offensive.

TheCosyNavyViper · 01/08/2024 13:46

I think we have realised that you have nothing but your very simplistic opinion on the sport.

Thanks for continuing to post though to make that clear.

chappy2he · 01/08/2024 13:43

A lot of man bashing but there's almost no men that support this, it's not men, it's the organisers/committee being woke.

I can’t believe you just had the fucking cheek to call this man bashing, when a man has LITERALLY just bashed a woman on international tv.

JusteanBiscuits · 01/08/2024 13:48

LordPercyPercy · 01/08/2024 13:36

LordPercyPercy · 01/08/2024 13:48

But to pick on these individual fights, while being apparently unconcerned about the others, just seems unreasonable.

Because fights correctly segregated by sex don't carry the same disproportionate danger to the woman participant.
Mean are over two and a half times stronger than women, all else being equal (ie weight). There is no safe or fair way to have a man and a woman fight. As we've just witnessed.

WickedSerious · 01/08/2024 13:48

All a bit 'nothing to see here' then really.

How silly we were to get all worked up.

Oh shut up for once. This talented woman had her nose broken and feared for life all in under 50 seconds and all you can worry about is the feelings of deluded men.

TheCosyNavyViper · 01/08/2024 13:46

But it’s not is it? An experienced woman boxer has just said she’s never been hit that hard in her life, by the man she just faced in the ring. That is evidence that, pound for pound, a man has greater punching power compared to women of the same weight. She’s telling you it matters, the difference was noticeable and you’re ignoring her and dismissing her. Why?

You mean the posters who have already defended women with PCOS on this very thread by pointing out that women with PCOS (a female endocrine disorder) produce higher than average testosterone levels within the female range and that even the highest level within the female range comes at a level considerably lower than the start of the male range?

I'm someone who has PCOS and you (Tandora) really need to have a word with yourself.

My mistake, they look so similar. Here's a correct image.

No wonder you have been shut down, you are effectively supporting someone who has been medically confirmed as male beating up a woman. You need shutting down. No matter how many times you try and justify male violence against women you will be wrong and always will be wrong.
