Lin Yu-ting and Imane Khelif: Boxers cleared for Paris Olympics - BBC Sport

They are both biological males. Its to IOC, International Olympic committee. There will be a protest and i know another female Irish boxer has pulled out but surely this cant stand. The women could be seriously injured.

Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-ting

Lin Yu-ting and Imane Khelif: Boxers cleared for Paris Olympics

Two athletes are cleared to compete at the women's boxing at the Paris Olympics, having been disqualified from last year's World Championships for failing to meet eligibility criteria.

Absolutely disgusting that the IoC sanctioned this bout. Carini fought bravely but her opponent had no business being in the ring with her.

Women's sport is for women and it is and should be that simple.

Oh look, another thinly veiled transphobic post on Mumsnet.
How very original.

All masked as 'concern', of course.

For anyone not watching.
Fight started. He punched her in the face. She put her hand up and abandoned fight. Ref declared him the winner. She walked off and refused to congratulate him. Brave, brave woman, I think she was in tears.

Thanks for giving us the details. I'm f**king raging for her. Poor woman!

I'm not saying they should be able to compete. I'm saying it's not reasonable to be scared for their opponents.

Yet a man who is in the same weight category was able to bust a woman’s nose with only the 2nd punch he landed because of his reach and greater muscle mass and punching power. And she’s not supposed to be worried about the remaining 8 minutes of the fight?

Needanewname42 · 01/08/2024 13:14

Angela Carini has had her nose broken FFS. 46 seconds it lasted.

It was completely predictable. God love the next women he comes up against.

CoffeeCatsAndVodka · 01/08/2024 13:14

@JusteanBiscuits

I'm going to take all the name calling and nastiness out of this, so, let's look at it this way:

You say they were raised as girls and didn't know they were male until they were tested. I don't know if that is true, but I'll take it as such for now. I feel for them very much if they had their life turned upside down in such a way.

However, once they knew, how do you justify them consciously making the decision to fight against women? They know they are cheating, pure and simple, there is absolutely no excusing them. End of. You can't ruin someone else's life simply because you feel your life hasn't been fair.

I was thinking that! We're all still waiting for @teacher45646 to return with evidence of a womb. Both posters have zero credibility as it is, especially @JusteanBiscuits blowing a fuse & trying to derail this thread.

A womb / uterus is a secondary characteristic anyway, regardless of what some tinterweb sources try to claim these days.

Kerchinger · 01/08/2024 13:15

Anyone that thinks this is okay is wrong in the head and needs help.

We women that don't support this absolute horror show need to seriously stand up against it. Biological girls and women have the right to compete in sport and compete fairly against other women not disturbed, mediocre men that can only win medals by cheating. What do we need to do to fight this???? We have a duty to fellow women to fight this.

I am speaking out against the language used by some posters here. Inflammatory, disgusting language.

I actually get off my arse and have made change and worked to make sport fairer - not just sat around posting on the internet. I have given a good chunk of my time to bring in guidelines that do make it fairer for women in the governing body for a sport.

What I am objecting to is the language used by too many of you in here. I doubt any of you have actually done anything other than bitch online. SO yes, this is an area I know plenty about, as I have actually tried to help fairness for women. But apparently I'm just a lefty troll. It is those attitudes that prevent change.

Tattletwat · 01/08/2024 13:15

Even one of the most famous trans women who uses to be a athlete is calling this shit out.

Martina Navratilova and Sharon Davies have been calling this out for years but no one took notice. The head of BBC sport is a dickhead who thinks trans women should compete and thinks the two women above know nothing about sport.

All this shit is crazy but we get called Terfs for calling this shit out.

CaveMum · 01/08/2024 13:16

@ilovesushi the fight was not on BBC as they no longer have the rights to the Olympics - they are only allowed to show 2 streams at any one time. The fight was on Discovery.

I’m sitting here mind blown, wondering if this person is really as thick as that comment suggests, or if it’s a case of complete and utter moral bankruptcy. Either way, something’s seriously wrong.

Well I’ll tell you what, I’ll listen to what the women who have been forced to fight this man say about it, rather than someone in the comfort of their own home claiming it’s not dangerous. You go take a punch in the face from him, then come back to us.

OvaHere · 01/08/2024 13:18

FunIsland · 01/08/2024 13:02

What are you reading? Has anyone incited violence? Thrown bricks at people? Travelled to a community, devastated by tragedy in order to cause violence and disruption?

I haven’t seen any of that (but in fairness I haven’t read every post).

All I’ve seen is some people who are angry that because of a lack of a third option, a woman was put in a boxing ring with a man and seemingly felt in such danger that in spite of training for this for years, she felt that she had no option but to leave after less than a minute.

I’m not sure which bit of that is so abhorrent to you

I’m not sure which bit of that is so abhorrent to you

I think it's the bit where women have the audacity to say no to cheating men and call them out.

I will never stop calling these disgusting men cheats but unlike this disgusting man I will never break anyone's nose to get my own way.

Kerchinger · 01/08/2024 13:19

Any decent transwoman with morals would be supporting biological women in this particular respect.

Apolloneuro · 01/08/2024 13:19

I’m not transphobic - don’t give a monkeys about other people’s personal identities.

I’d just prefer men not to break women’s noses, in the name of sport. Pretty reasonable for any normal person to understand, I’d say?

TheCosyNavyViper · 01/08/2024 13:20

EmpressOfTheThread · 01/08/2024 13:12

I don't understand, could you clarify? I thought these events were separated by gender for a reason?

I guess there are lots of reasons to separate by gender.

Same for many other sports, that aren't really dangerous at all.

And I guess there are lots of reasons why boxing is separated by weight.

But these two people in question are certainly not going to be the most dangerous fighters in the women's competition.

They are just not that strong, not compared to the middleweight women.

So it's not reasonable to be scared for their competitors.

It is NOT transphobic to be angry that someone with proven XY chromosomes is being allowed to fight against someone with XX chromosomes. Which, irrelevant of any language being used (from either side), is the bottom line of the argument here.

Caster Semenya has 46 XY 5-ARD (5-alpha-reductase deficiency), as confirmed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

This is a DSD which only affects male humans.

Where does that show she was scouted for being DSD?!

minnieot · 01/08/2024 13:20

They are literally allowing a man to beat up a woman, what on earth has this world come to?

Qanat53 · 01/08/2024 13:20

If these two were women, they would know why they shouldn’t compete.

But they aren’t women …
