Lin Yu-ting and Imane Khelif: Boxers cleared for Paris Olympics - BBC Sport

They are both biological males. Its to IOC, International Olympic committee. There will be a protest and i know another female Irish boxer has pulled out but surely this cant stand. The women could be seriously injured.

Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-ting

Lin Yu-ting and Imane Khelif: Boxers cleared for Paris Olympics

Two athletes are cleared to compete at the women's boxing at the Paris Olympics, having been disqualified from last year's World Championships for failing to meet eligibility criteria.

There is nothing to confirm they have DSDs and grew up believing themselves to be female, either, so why do make such a bold claim as that which you dismiss?

A 30 second google will bring you plenty of reports - not randoms on social media - but actual news outlets.

Helleofabore · 01/08/2024 13:04

For all those using the 'but they grew up believing they were female' argument. This is simply an emotional appeal. It is manipulative to use it. And frankly, if you were convinced by this argument to prioritise those male athletes, it says more about you than it does about us who ignore it.

People find out things about the bodies that they have to cope with every day. Things that completely change their lives. Why have you chosen to elevate this group of male athletes?

The only reason to keep bringing 'they grew up believing they were female' is to try to convince people to have more sympathy for those athletes and give them additional rights over female athletes. There is no other reason for posters to keep bringing up these male athlete's background as some special consideration to abandon the need to protect female athletes.

And if a person chooses to compete in a protected category that they know that they have an advantage over, why the fuck should anyone respect that athletes choice?

Show me one. There is no confirmation they are DSD and grew up believing them to be female. Show me confirmation of this.

EmpressOfTheThread · 01/08/2024 13:05

@TheCosyNavyViper weight isn't the only factor here. If you are xy and have elevated testosterone then you are stronger than a woman of the same height and weight.

listsandbudgets · 01/08/2024 13:05

It's simple. Men are stronger than woman. They have a different physique. It is not a fair fight.

These women have trained for years TO FIGHT AGAINST OTHER WOMEN ...this is awful and I feel really sorry for them that they're having everything ripped away in an entirely unfair fight.

I hope specators boycott it - I'll certainly be switching off the TV for the little it's worth

WickedSerious · 01/08/2024 13:05

TheCosyNavyViper · 01/08/2024 13:03

Lots of PP are saying this is totally unfair, the women they are fighting don't stand a chance, and this is actually dangerous.

But these two people regularly lose against women.

According to their wikipedia pages, Imane Khelif has won 9 and lost 5, Lin Yu-ting has won 19 and lost 5. Isn't this around the level you'd expect from an olympic level competitor?

Do you expect these two to both easily take gold?

And boxing is done by weight category, so these two must weigh very similar to their competitors. Imane Khelif is light welterweight and Lin Yu-ting featherweight.

You may well think that these two have some unfair advantage, that maybe they can punch harder, or move faster than the people they are fighting?

But they definitely can't punch as hard women in the upper weight categories, and therefore is must among the less dangerous women's boxing fighters.

So I think it IS unreasonable to be scared for their opponents.

Edited

I just made a noise I can't spell.

EmpressOfTheThread · 01/08/2024 13:06

It's like in all those reported rape cases - "why didn't she fight back?" was always the criticism.
If you are xy and have elevated testosterone levels then you are stronger than a woman even of the same height and weight.

Plimsoll73 · 01/08/2024 13:06

Do you expect these two to both easily take gold?

And the gold medal goes to....@TheCosyNavyViper for spectacularly missing the fucking point.

Classy!! You can report my posts if you think I am multiple people or a troll. MN will confirm my account I guess.

But yes, it's the "left" that does the name calling!!! :face palm:

How did you know I was talking about you? Must’ve struck a nerve for some reason eh?

That was shown to be an utter lie. Caster had her life ruined by people like you

The children she has fathered may be of some solace to her for that

Pepperypot · 01/08/2024 13:07

Will the winner now be expected to go into the next round against another woman?

Heavyboom · 01/08/2024 13:07

I think if they are people who've grown up believing they're women, we can and should have some sympathy for them. That particular medical condition must be harrowing.

We still can't have them fighting women, which will be very difficult for them to come to tetms with, if they've spent a lifetime training for that paryicular dream, but is something they'll have to live with. In the same way that sporting careers are ended but other medical conditions or injuries, it's all very sad.

Caster Semenya has 46 XY 5-ARD (5-alpha-reductase deficiency), as confirmed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

This is a DSD which only affects male humans.

GlobalCitz · 01/08/2024 13:07

It's incredibly telling that every time a sports governing body introduces an "open" category none of these people submits an entry.

They are cheaters. They are agressors and they know exactly what they're doing.

Oh god you are going to cite Michael Phelps any second aren't you?

What an absolutely ridiculous argument.

Flowers4me · 01/08/2024 13:07

So defending Angela Carini is the equivalent of violent rioters. There was no threats or violence on this thread; just anger and upset that another woman has lost out on an opportunity to shine. Shame on that poster for using Southport to demean our valid concerns.

ilovesushi · 01/08/2024 13:08

Does anyone have a link to the fight? I can't find it anywhere. Maybe it will be on iplayer???

So men should be able to fight women, as long as they don’t win every time? What an arguement.

JusteanBiscuits · 01/08/2024 12:57

It is quite clear I am talking about the thugs who were egged on on social media to go and cause violence. And that is what is happening here. A bunch of people on in the internet using inflammatory language about them being cheats etc etc.

They are cheats. And you are cheering them on to beat up women. We all see you as well as them

Apolloneuro · 01/08/2024 13:08

StepAwayFromGoogling · 01/08/2024 13:03

Christ alive. The IOC are calling men beating up women a 'sport' and televising it. Best get some cameras set up in the lounges, kitchens and bedrooms of the 1.4m women in England and Wales beaten up by men last year and we can all watch?! FFS. I cannot express how angry this makes me. Is there any way to petition the IOC? Or the Boxing Governing Body?

I don’t quite know what to do with myself as I feel so angry about this.

In the past few weeks we’ve had three women murdered by an ex boyfriend, female dog walker murdered by random man, three children slaughtered by a man.

Now we have sanctioned violence of a man on a woman in sport.

FUCK the patriarchy.

Maireanto1 · 01/08/2024 13:08

FunIsland · 01/08/2024 13:02

What are you reading? Has anyone incited violence? Thrown bricks at people? Travelled to a community, devastated by tragedy in order to cause violence and disruption?

I haven’t seen any of that (but in fairness I haven’t read every post).

All I’ve seen is some people who are angry that because of a lack of a third option, a woman was put in a boxing ring with a man and seemingly felt in such danger that in spite of training for this for years, she felt that she had no option but to leave after less than a minute.

I’m not sure which bit of that is so abhorrent to you

Exactly! The only violence that has happened this morning has been poor Angela Carini suffering a broken nose at the hands of a male in her designated women's boxing match
Typical, gutter left tactic to try & derail the thread especially one like this which is in unanimous support of Angela & all females in sport.
Shame on you @JusteanBiscuits trying to drag Southport into this. So transparent & obviously trying to derail this.

Don't get personal, @JusteanBiscuits .
None of us on here "ruined" Caster Semenya's life. Have a look at their recorded testosterone levels.
