Lin Yu-ting and Imane Khelif: Boxers cleared for Paris Olympics - BBC Sport

They are both biological males. Its to IOC, International Olympic committee. There will be a protest and i know another female Irish boxer has pulled out but surely this cant stand. The women could be seriously injured.

Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-ting

Lin Yu-ting and Imane Khelif: Boxers cleared for Paris Olympics

Two athletes are cleared to compete at the women's boxing at the Paris Olympics, having been disqualified from last year's World Championships for failing to meet eligibility criteria.

Still can't see anything on the BBC website.

No they were male at birth. They're transwomen - transwomen are men who've decided they're women. They're cheats.

Well, according to every news report I've just read they are not transwomen. They have not just decided they are women. The IOC haven't stated what gender tests were carried out, but there is NOTHING (outside of social media comments) saying they are trans women.

BeaRF75 · 01/08/2024 13:00

YANBU.
The behaviour of the IOC on this is both dangerous and depressing.

It is quite clear I am talking about the thugs who were egged on on social media to go and cause violence. And that is what is happening here. A bunch of people on in the internet using inflammatory language about them being cheats etc etc.

I think 'cheats' sums up men competing in women's sport quite well. In this case cheating abusers

GreenIvyy · 01/08/2024 13:01

In a world where we are encouraging biological girls/females/women to take up sport, whats the point when the rules of the game as now skewed so they dont and wont ever win?!

Just sit back and look at the language you are all using about two people who have grown up believing they are female.

If they hadn't taken part in high level professional sports they may have never known about their medical condition.

But you are all name calling. Yes, your behaviour is disgusting. Nothing more than an angry mob screaming for retribution - just like the mobs in Southport this week

It seems like we are all on repeat because this is a very fast thread.

If they never knew about their medical condition and did not compete in sports, what does this matter to the discussion on this thread. This is meaningless and emotionally manipulative.

You cannot argue that they were unaware of their situation. They were very clearly told at the very latest in 2023. They chose to compete knowing this.

DSD is more common in some countries, I think in UK it is spotted early so the sex of the child is clear from early on.
There are certain peopl scouting these countries for DSD males to compete.

There will be several on the track next week ....

That's exactly what they do - in South Africa they scouted Caster Semenya, for example.

They are cheats! They know they have male bodied advantage!

CHEATS! Cheating cheaty cheats!

And you should be so so ashamed of yourself for the comparison of posters who recognise reality to the Southport mobs. You are the disgusting one.

What are you reading? Has anyone incited violence? Thrown bricks at people? Travelled to a community, devastated by tragedy in order to cause violence and disruption?

I haven’t seen any of that (but in fairness I haven’t read every post).

All I’ve seen is some people who are angry that because of a lack of a third option, a woman was put in a boxing ring with a man and seemingly felt in such danger that in spite of training for this for years, she felt that she had no option but to leave after less than a minute.

I’m not sure which bit of that is so abhorrent to you

Aye,cheats who want to hit women.

There is nothing to confirm they have DSDs and grew up believing themselves to be female, either, so why do make such a bold claim as that which you dismiss?

Plimsoll73 · 01/08/2024 13:02

It's bloody outrageous and I hope that the tide is starting to turn. The past few years have been absolutely bonkers. She should sue the fuckers.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 01/08/2024 13:02

Viviennemary · 01/08/2024 12:44

If somebody is born inter sex that is a completely different issue from men 'transitioning' into women.

The term is DSD, not intersex.

Yes, it is a different issue in that most people would have sympathy for an individual whose sex had been recorded incorrectly at birth and who had gone through childhood believing they were female only to eventually discover that they were in fact male with a DSD. Most people would have sympathy that the individual had competed at a high level in their sport only to discover that they should not have been competing in the female category as they are actually male with a DSD.

However, my sympathy ends the second they decide to continue competing in the female category despite knowing they are male. At that stage, they are no different to a transwoman who was recorded as male at birth. They are now cheating. They have a choice of either competing in the male category or stopping competing. Chances are, like the majority of other men, they would not be competitive in the male category so they have, in this instance, decided it is better to cheat and continue competing in the female category. They are being facilitated on this by the IOC who obviously have no regard for women's safety or ensuring they face fair competition.

EmpressOfTheThread · 01/08/2024 13:01

That was shown to be an utter lie. Caster had her life ruined by people like you

DancingPhantomsOnTheTerrace · 01/08/2024 13:03

But 'assigned female at birth'.

They are not cheats. They are also people who have spent a large proportion of their lives leading to the olympics and have been found to have a medical condition.

Yes - and genuinely that must be an unbelievably difficult thing to discover about yourself.
However, they are choosing to continue to punch women in the face.

Loads of people spend years training for the Olympics and don't make it for whatever reason. And that is very disappointing for them. But those are the rules. There's nothing about someone with whatever specific medical condition they may have that means they should be immune from the disappointment that comes from not qualifying for an event.

StepAwayFromGoogling · 01/08/2024 13:03

Christ alive. The IOC are calling men beating up women a 'sport' and televising it. Best get some cameras set up in the lounges, kitchens and bedrooms of the 1.4m women in England and Wales beaten up by men last year and we can all watch?! FFS. I cannot express how angry this makes me. Is there any way to petition the IOC? Or the Boxing Governing Body?

Wheresthebeach · 01/08/2024 13:03

Women need to boycott the Olympics. Don’t watch don’t attend. They will only care when it impacts money

TheCosyNavyViper · 01/08/2024 13:03

Lots of PP are saying this is totally unfair, the women they are fighting don't stand a chance, and this is actually dangerous.

But these two people regularly lose against women.

According to their wikipedia pages, Imane Khelif has won 9 and lost 5, Lin Yu-ting has won 19 and lost 5. Isn't this around the level you'd expect from an olympic level competitor?

Do you expect these two to both easily take gold?

And boxing is done by weight category, so these two must weigh very similar to their competitors. Imane Khelif is light welterweight and Lin Yu-ting featherweight.

You may well think that these two have some unfair advantage, that maybe they can punch harder, or move faster than the people they are fighting?

But they definitely can't punch as hard women in the upper weight categories, and therefore is must among the less dangerous women's boxing fighters.

So I think it IS unreasonable to be scared for their opponents.

It is quite clear you need to educate yourself.
Given everything that has tragically happened in Southport that our post is gutter talk & highly inappropriate.
Your linking violence to this thread as mentioned in your post..
The only violence that happened this morning was that Angela Carini has her nose broken by a competitor with XY chromosomes.
Don't try & drag the rest of us into the gutter with you.
