Lin Yu-ting and Imane Khelif: Boxers cleared for Paris Olympics - BBC Sport

They are both biological males. Its to IOC, International Olympic committee. There will be a protest and i know another female Irish boxer has pulled out but surely this cant stand. The women could be seriously injured.

Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-ting

Lin Yu-ting and Imane Khelif: Boxers cleared for Paris Olympics

Two athletes are cleared to compete at the women's boxing at the Paris Olympics, having been disqualified from last year's World Championships for failing to meet eligibility criteria.

The boxer was born with a womb.

How do you know this?

It doesn't matter in any case. Does the boxer have ovaries or testes?

If somebody is born inter sex that is a completely different issue from men 'transitioning' into women.

They are still either male or female.

It’s no difference, and we don’t know which it is for Khelif.

I only follow sport in a very casual way, but I thought this madness of letting biological males participate in women's events had stopped. The science is really clear on the fundamental differences between male and female bodies even after hormone treatments. Very disappointing for top level female athletes. I would be interested to see a risk assessment around this decision. I am sure some women have pulled out due to safety fears.

Agreed. The differences between athletic teenage boys and female Olympic athletes is shown quite starkly here -

www.boysvswomen.com

Again and again, it says 'None of the women's finals performances met the qualifying time to enter the boys' competition'.

If boys are faster than elite female athletes, should males compete in female athletics?

See how the best high school boys stack up against the best female Olympians and World Record holders in Track & Field and Swimming.

no such thing as intersex. There are male disorders of sexual development (which females cannot have) and female disorders of sexual development (which males cannot have.

🙄

You don't think man beating up woman in the name of sport is what's actually disgusting? You're that captured?

Personally I think anyone beating up someone else in the name of sport is pretty pathetic

Why is it obvious Lin YuTing has XY chromosomes? She was registered female at birth, raised as a girl, has always competed in female categories and the only allegation she has XY chromosomes comes from a Russian boxing official which has no credibility since it is no longer sanctioned as a body by the IOC and the Russian state has a long history of spreading misinformation around gender.

She may have high testosterone levels. That can be caused by a variety of hormonal conditions that affect women including CAH and PCOS, but would not suggest chromosomal differences. Lin Yu Ting has never identified as either intersex or transsexual.

Even if she has high testosterone levels the IOC requires these are controlled for people to compete in the female category, i.e. she must be taking medication to keep them under control, so the fact she has once failed a testosterone test does not mean she currently has high testosterone levels giving her an unfair advantage in the female category.

The geopolitics of this are obvious - it's Russian misinformation designed to undermine the IOC because Russia cannot compete. Probably compounded by China as she is Taiwanese.

He has been tested and found to have XY chromosomes. He was banned and, significantly, DID NOT CONTEST the ban.

He has normal testosterone levels because he is a man.

Reading that article, it's not clear what the background of these people are. Were they born male/are boliologically male or is there something else that causes unusually high testosterone? I do think there's a distinction.

Then let us make a distinction - testosterone plays or fights testosterone. Bet they wouldn't.

That's a whole other thread, though, isn't it? This is about this Olympic boxing match.

No it’s not, if they’re male, they’re still a male trying to cheat in womens sport, why do you think we don’t have this DSD issue in mens sport?

Helleofabore · 01/08/2024 12:44

@teacher45646 has vanished now as it has no evidence from factual, reliable sources to prove that the boxer has a womb.
So typical of this lot to make wild statements with not a shead of hard evidence to back up their misinformation.

Waiting to be called far right now or a bigot for demanding evidence!

Breadcat24 · 01/08/2024 12:49

I feel sorry for Angela having her olympic chances ended this way. I do not like boxing in general- but that was horrendous to watch. The difference in arm length alone. Grim

Planesmistakenforstars · 01/08/2024 12:49

KohlaParasaurus · 01/08/2024 12:37

Horrific. But I expect the IOC to double down.

They will double down. They overruled the boxing governing body in the first place to allow these males to compete. The only way this will end is in 4 year's time when China fields a women's team made up almost entirely of men across most sports, because why the fuck not, no one cares and no one dares check. Something will be done about that, but it won't be because women's sport matters to the IOC.

Helleofabore · 01/08/2024 12:49

Viviennemary · 01/08/2024 12:44

If somebody is born inter sex that is a completely different issue from men 'transitioning' into women.

In the application of sporting regulations that protect female athletes, it is broadly the exact same thing.

The impact of testosterone on a male body that delivers physical advantage over female athletes. Whether it is a male with one of the DSDs that do this, or they are 'transitioning', the impact is the same.

Why should a male with a DSD that gives physical advantage be allowed to compete when a male who has transitioned is not allowed? The advantage is the same. Why is one group allowed special privilege because of a particular medical condition ?

Pippa246 · 01/08/2024 12:49

@ilovemoney YANBU. What is also disturbing is the amount of comments online from male Algerians congratulating “her” and laughing, high fiving etc - taking pure joy that a woman was effectively beaten up in the name of sport. I could weep at what is happening to women and girls under the lie of gender ideology.

JusteanBiscuits · 01/08/2024 12:49

Maireanto1 · 01/08/2024 12:38

Oh it's definitely coming! That lot have a limited vocabulary which seems to consist of bigot & far right on repeat!

Just sit back and look at the language you are all using about two people who have grown up believing they are female.

If they hadn't taken part in high level professional sports they may have never known about their medical condition.

But you are all name calling. Yes, your behaviour is disgusting. Nothing more than an angry mob screaming for retribution - just like the mobs in Southport this week

Copenhagener · 01/08/2024 12:50

Absolute insanity. This poor woman.

A woman has to box a man today at the Olympics. AIBU to be scared for her?
EmpressOfTheThread · 01/08/2024 12:50

Angela Carini can be heard calling out "this is unjust!". The blows dislodged her helmet.
Will anyone listen to Carini?

Naunet · 01/08/2024 12:50

Come on @teacher45646 we’re all awaiting your ground breaking evidence of a womb. Surely you weren’t just making shit up to suit your agenda, which seems to be defending male violence against women?

MinnieCauldwell · 01/08/2024 12:51

Viviennemary · 01/08/2024 12:44

If somebody is born inter sex that is a completely different issue from men 'transitioning' into women.

There is NO intersex. People with DSD have an extra chromosone, they are either a male with DSD or a female with DSD.

A male with DSD will likely have XXY instead of XY, however, the Y chromosone gives a MALE puberty, regardless of what his genitalia may look like or how his mother dressed him. Its sad but not womens fault.

TinkerTiger · 01/08/2024 12:51

HappierTimesAhead · 01/08/2024 12:24

Because it is not as simple as women 'standing up against it'. To decide not to compete would come with heavy consequences for those women. They will have considered it very carefully. It doesn't make them wrong for deciding to compete anyway and we should not judge them for doing so.

The corrupt institutions that allow and support this to happen are reprehensible.

Yes they are, just like corporations are bad to underpay their workers. But then these workers strike, because no one else is going to fight for them.

We shouldn’t have to fight for things, but the world isn’t going to change. People will always take advantage where they can for their own personal gain. So we can take it or we can fight it.

Legalised violence of men on women. I actually feel sick.

Personally I think anyone beating up someone else in the name of sport is pretty pathetic

And you have made your opinion on sports clear.

Regardless of your personal opinion of sports, this has been a very clear cut instance of the IOC failing to keep female athletes safe particularly when they already will have the evidence available from the IBA as to the sex and the testosterone advantages of these two male athletes.
