Lin Yu-ting and Imane Khelif: Boxers cleared for Paris Olympics - BBC Sport

They are both biological males. Its to IOC, International Olympic committee. There will be a protest and i know another female Irish boxer has pulled out but surely this cant stand. The women could be seriously injured.

Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-ting

Lin Yu-ting and Imane Khelif: Boxers cleared for Paris Olympics

Two athletes are cleared to compete at the women's boxing at the Paris Olympics, having been disqualified from last year's World Championships for failing to meet eligibility criteria.

They were previously banned from fighting women in the world championships because they are male as they have XY chromosomes. What they appeared at birth or whether they are trans is irrelevant to them fighting women at the olympics - because whatever the case they are biologically men.

The boxer was born with a womb.

JusteanBiscuits · 01/08/2024 12:24

But 'assigned female at birth'.

They are not cheats. They are also people who have spent a large proportion of their lives leading to the olympics and have been found to have a medical condition. This is not simple black and white and as I said, the language used toward them in this thread is appalling.

OK then. Simpler language. They are people with XY chromosomes fighting people with XX chromosomes in a match that should only have people with XX chromosomes fighting in it.

There you go. Not all that complicated is it?

SaintHonoria · 01/08/2024 12:31

'Testosterone is one component, longer limbs larger lung capacity muscle mass bone density all cannot be undone, all matter greatly in sport, shame on the captured Olympic committee. '

Disgraceful

It's sanctioned assault

Absolutely agree

it’s horrifying

this Olympics has been so disappointing we had something wonderful to celebrate a record number of female competitors but that won’t do has to be balanced out with allowing a child rapist to compete and now a male to assault a female in a boxing ring

EmpressOfTheThread · 01/08/2024 12:32

I've just seen it. 46 seconds - that poor Italian woman.

Was he aye?

The boxer was born with a womb.

So? If they have XY chromosomes they should not be in this match. Also - cite please for this "fact"

Do you believe someone born with a womb can be biologically male?

littlbrowndog · 01/08/2024 12:33

A boxer previously banned from fighting women as he had xy chromosomes was sanctioned by the IOC to hit a woman boxer on live tv and break her nose in 46 seconds

VividQuoter · 01/08/2024 12:34

Until everyone who is pissed off with this pays any attention to these idiots and consumes their deals, sports, concerts, etc - they will keep pushing it.

When no one buys anymore from them and no one buys tickets for such events, it will go back to their own closets and eco chambers and society at large will keep living as we always did.

crumpet · 01/08/2024 12:34

I was already incandescent, but have hit a new peak. BBC has just mentioned in passing, very downplayed: “there’s been some controversy in the women’s boxing”

MeouwCat · 01/08/2024 12:34

The BBC just showedf a brief clip and refered to both boxers as "she".

ilovesushi · 01/08/2024 12:34

I only follow sport in a very casual way, but I thought this madness of letting biological males participate in women's events had stopped. The science is really clear on the fundamental differences between male and female bodies even after hormone treatments. Very disappointing for top level female athletes. I would be interested to see a risk assessment around this decision. I am sure some women have pulled out due to safety fears.

The boxer was born with a womb.

The Italian was yes. If you’re trying to claim the man was, I can’t wait to see your evidence

StickItInTheFamilyAlbum · 01/08/2024 12:34

The commentator ignored the way she pulled hat hand away from the referee, her shouting it’s not fair in Italian to her corner, her refusal to congratulate her combatant and the way she fell to her knees sobbing and how the other boxer pursued her round the ring to pat her on the back in consolation

The way things are with the IOC's media rules, I'm surprised that the commentator abstained from calling AC a bad sport | sore loser etc.. That's effectively what's happened in other sports when women have refused to continue or participate.

Daily Mail photographs of the 'contest'.

Archived against it being taken down in compliance with IOC media.

Boxer 'deemed male' leaves Italian female fighter in tears at Olympics

Controversial Algerian fighter Imane Khelif clashed with Italian Angela Carini in this morning's Olympic welterweight bout.

EmpressOfTheThread · 01/08/2024 12:34

XY chromosomes and "elevated" levels of testosterone. Was disqualified in 2023 for these reasons, but now has passed.

MoleAtTheCounter · 01/08/2024 12:34

The BBC have just shown some of it. The two presenters were expressionless and quickly moved on without comment. Terrified of a TRA pile-on.

Born from a womb, perhaps

Nanny0gg · 01/08/2024 12:35

Tigergirl80 · 01/08/2024 11:13

I'm in two minds here. Would it be fair if she had to fight a woman who was biologicaly female at birth? The only fair way would be if she fights a trans woman.

Who is the 'she' here?

The men fight the men

The women fight the women

Simples

It's bad enough in most sports, but in boxing?! How on earth can a woman compete?

CreationNat1on · 01/08/2024 12:36

Italien lady should sue, Olympics organisers are complicit in her assault.
