Long standing close friend came round for dinner and we were nattering away, and she just mentioned off hand in the conversation that she had voted Reform. i am really shocked. We don't discuss politics much. But I would have guessed lib dems or labour. I love her dearly. But I do wonder if I should think about her differently now, or just carry on as before

Many of my friends have radically different political views; and that’s the way it should be. Why would you only want to be friends with people who think exactly the same as you? I love a good debate / argument over dinner 🤣 and of course I am constantly changing my mind - as I grow hopefully. I would find it very tedious to be only surrounded by people who agreed with me

I'm not sure that anyone is saying that they need their friends to agree with them on everything.

Simply that there are some fundamental values that people find important, like "don't be racist".

Was you intelligent enough to ask her why she did it or just the usual thick o reaction of shock and horror because someone dared to have different opinions, values and beliefs to you?

It's impossible to view the postings of Farage, without utter revulsion.
He masquerades as a " reasoned commentator" on what he claims to be a national crisis linked to immigrants while claiming he deplores any lawlessness. Then he hints at more lawlessness if his warnings are not heeded.
The reality is that his entire political future is dependent on fomenting confrontation and division. It is by creating a climate of crisis that he has got where he has.

Opinions differ. I like my country, I am interested in its history, and some of it I can be proud of (e.g. ending slavery worldwide, the agrarian revolution, standing against tyranny in WWII). Some things I do not like, for example, laissez-faire economics, neo-liberalism and the two child benefit limit. I mentioned my DCs for an obvious reason, or do you not realise what bi-racial implies? Not that that would stop me being racist - anyone can be racist and some of the most racist people I have met have been far from white.

If a legal migrant who came to the UK from Africa / Pakistan / India etc voted Reform because they are seeing how the values of the Country they chose to come and live, be slowly destroyed, as well as the out of control illegal immigration situation would you class them as Racist? Would you class them as far right?

She can vote for who she wants. None of your business. If she expected judgement she probably wouldn’t have told you. Be a boring world if we were all the same

Now that Farage has been seen to be blatantly stoking violent racist riots with his Tuesday video faux innocently "asking questions" about whether the Southport murderer is a Muslim boat immigrant under M16 surveillance - and subsequently random black and Asian people are being attacked in city streets - I'd expect them to be at least regretting voting for that nasty gobshite and his proto-fascist limited company posing as a political party.

Likewise a lot of the posts on this thread with there "But it's all just a matter of different opinions" really haven't aged well.

Of course she can. And OP is equally free to judge her for what this reveals about her character. When it comes to choosing friends, it's absolutely OP's business. Nobody is forced to keep a friend who turns out to be a bigot.

Just for clarification, I’m not a supporter, but I’ve always been curious as to how many people read manifesto’s (ANY parties, not just Reform) before opposing them.
