To think he shouldn't have been paid in full while off long term. As its more like being self employed.
But mainly cos it was 475k upwards of our TV licence money!
Another example is when a famous radio presenter s decide to go off for an extended break to film another show or something. Surely they don't get normal pay when they have extra weeks off not on air!!

It’s not stupid behaviour. it’s extremely manipulative, selfish, cruel and damaging behaviour. Stupid behaviour is getting caught out having one night stands, or sending sexually explicit videos to other consenting adults and such like foolish ego driven behaviours

his behaviour is implicit in the sexual abuse of children, it’s not a cheap thrill it is dangerous to the children involved and deeply damaging and to their families

why is this being played down so much what he has done is played a part in the sexual abuse of children it’s very serious

You quoted my post then launched into a tirade about the phrase, "stupid behaviour", which I actually never said?!!

So they wouldn't feel sorry for him if he wasn't highly respected, etc??

If he was a dustman they'd think, oh I shouldn't feel sorry for him cos he doesn't work for the BBC?

Wtf

I literally don't understand what point you are trying to make here? Why would anyone feel sorry for him in any case?

Blackcats7 · 31/07/2024 19:25

The BBC default position seems to be cover up and minimise.
Their carpets must be very lumpy.
Expecting HE to go the I was a porn addict but am ok now the Priory has cured me route.
A few regretful comments and that will be that as far as he is concerned.
BBC will be all nothing to see here.
Agree with pp this is why the JSO sentences were so ridiculous. There is no equality of sentencing. Women in prison for fraud due to extreme poverty but perverts getting community service.

westisbest1982 · 31/07/2024 19:46

Just like Jonathan King and Chris Langham, he’s heading to a life of obscurity, which probably pains him as he was apparently very arrogant at work. There’s no way back for celebrities after being convicted for possessing images of abuse.

DysonSphere · 31/07/2024 19:47

westisbest1982 · 31/07/2024 17:09

The other man has been convicted and only received a 12 month suspended prison sentence. This really is a fucked up world.

Suspended sentence!!

Children's lives are worth nothing!!

Unbelievable.

Janiie · 31/07/2024 19:47

'I expect he’ll retreat somewhere and hope the furore dies down at some point'

He could've maybe got away wirh the man in his 60s pervs over 19yr old as was the original story but once child sexual abuse images are involved I don't think the furore will die down and rightly so. He's a disgusting man and the whole 'admitted to a hospital for urgent mental health treatment' last year was ridiculous. As if mh issues excuses his behaviour.

He'll be ok, can while away the hours counting his bbc massive pay cheques and chortling at how he got away with it for so long.

Of course the furore will die down. He’s not going to stay in the news for ever. It died down for nearly a year until this week. It’ll be someone else’s turn soon.

Someone else's turn. You make out it's just silly celeb gossip.

It 'died down for a year' as his wife did the 'he's been admitted to hospital poor Huw' bollocks thus online chat stopped. I hope she's ashamed of releasing that statement now.

Over40Overdating · 31/07/2024 20:14

If the guy distributing those images & videos got 12 months suspended for what’s likely to have been more charges / worse offending, I imagine HE’s counsel are confident of no jail time with a guilty plea and that mitigation argument.

Stop someone driving to work in the name of climate awareness & it’s straight to jail though.
CSA - slap on the wrist.
Disrupting capitalism - off to jail for years.

Sums the priorities of this country up.

She probably didn’t realise the extent of it and was trying to damage control not only his seeming MH breakdown but also trying to save herself from the humiliation he had already put her through, being caught getting sexual gratification from a teenage boy. Imagine finding out your husband was not only seeking out gay sex, but with someone old enough to be your son and it’s been outed in the media. Which gives you a tiny window not only to process that information but put on a face to the whole country who are on the cusp of finding out and judging your whole family, not just him.

The fact she has since filed for divorce and made no more statements says enough. She has nothing to be ashamed of, this is not her crime.

You literally started off your post arguing with me over something I didn't say, "It’s not stupid behaviour."

You did reference "cheap thrill" later and I reiterate - that is what it was so far as Edwards was concerned. Though maybe it wasn't that 'cheap' at all! The guy already convicted wasn't taking that risk for nothing.

She was probably preoccupied with the MH breakdown and TBH I wouldn't be surprised if he had a breakdown genuinely when he realised the dirt was all starting to come out. The blame is all his.

Janiie · 31/07/2024 20:30

'The fact she has since filed for divorce and made no more statements says enough. She has nothing to be ashamed of, this is not her crime.'

Of course it isn't her crime. I'm not suggesting she is complicit. I'm saying her knee jerk 'my husband has been admitted to hospital' now looks very much like she was just wanting unkind and inconvenient speculation to stop and it worked a treat. Just a shame these current charges have now come out.

Suspended for longer than at work is mad.

It's Employment Law

To be fair, she also made that statement for the sake of her children (mind you I have no idea how old they are)

When you have children with someone who does bad things that impact them badly, you sometimes go against every grain in your body to make things work out best they can.

She's divorcing him now. I think she deserves some grace. She would have been faced with the crumbling of her and her children's world and people would also be looking at her. Did she know? How could she not know? Will she stay? Will she leave?

She had enough to deal with in her personal life and relationship which was quickly unraveling as a 30 year long lie. Of course she didn’t want the entire media at her doorstep at the same time. Maybe she is hugely regretting what she said now, maybe she feels it was the right thing to do at the time. Who knows, whatever the truth she doesn’t need to feel ashamed of any of it. She did what she had to for her/her children’s protection at the time, I’m sure she wasn’t expecting it to come to this. I can’t imagine what she’s going through, not only the initial shock but then for him to have transpired to do much worse after she stood by him. The more I think about it, the more awful it is how badly he’s treated his family.

Over40Overdating · 31/07/2024 20:43

His wife has nothing to be ashamed of @Janiie. How on earth is a betrayed wife in a humiliating, life changing mess not of her own making, the one to be ashamed?

Given the secrecy this lot of charges has been hidden under, and it being unrelated to what HE was originally outed for, I imagine she made her decision on the statement based on the only facts that were given to her at the time.

As I've said, for releasing her statement that effectively shut down further speculation because poor Huw had allegedly been admitted to hospital. She should have left him then and let him release his own poor me statement.

I don't think it was "poor Huw" and it wasn't standing by her man, either. I remember thinking at the time that it was very carefully written and actually quite ambiguous.

I suspect her main thought was for her children and she wanted some calm to reassure them and make plans.

IK has been relegated to just one beauty column in the Sunday Times, so the days of her pontificating to us about her often questionable views on life are long gone.
