To think he shouldn't have been paid in full while off long term. As its more like being self employed.
But mainly cos it was 475k upwards of our TV licence money!
Another example is when a famous radio presenter s decide to go off for an extended break to film another show or something. Surely they don't get normal pay when they have extra weeks off not on air!!

From around the time he lost weight and started posting pictures of himself at the gym there were online rumours that he was contacting very young men on social media and asking for explicit photos.

There were rumours about Philip Schofield for years before all that came out, too.

Sometimes online rumours turn out to be true.

This was not rumoured, this was children, 14 and below. As young as seven. Rape and abuse,

AnneShirleysNewDress · 31/07/2024 17:36

@LostTheMarble Sadly it seems to be a common scenario.

Nanny0gg · 31/07/2024 17:37

I will never understand the arrogance that thinks they can/will get away with it and why it's worth losing everything for

It seems from reports that the police only found about Huw Edward’s involvement from looking at the other man’s (Alex Williams, 25) phone and saw HE’s number. So he covered things up on his phone (or they never investigated fully). It does make you wonder what else may have been missed.

Yes, have they been able to check all his devices, including older ones? Have other men been sending him these images? I wonder if he got other men to send him images, rather than search for them himself, because he thought that would be less traceable? If he wanted legal images he didn't need someone else to send them.

YANBU
The fallout for innocent family members is very far-reaching extremely sad.

It must be like a constant mourning for you, for what should have been.

I know. I was responding to the other poster's question which I quoted in my comment.

She was answering my question about how long has his behaviour been going on for. She stated that there were rumours a few years ago about him contacting young men.

These offences he has plead guilty to today were not part of the rumours that were heard about him.

More lies - where do you get rape and abuse from? Has not been reported.

This is a horrible situation but stick to the FACTS

Janiie · 31/07/2024 17:48

'More lies - where do you get rape and abuse from? Has not been reported.'

Some were category A images, which I understand do show rape and of course any child sexual images depict abuse.

Runnerinthenight · 31/07/2024 16:51

They did suspend him? Though I don't know how long that was after the allegation.

No, the family of the young man went to the media because they waited weeks for the BBC to intervene in the situation. The BBC did nothing until Huw's dodgy behaviour went public and their hand was forced. You would have thought the BBC would have gone into crisis mode when they found out their flagship news guy was embroiled in behaviour that was guaranteed to cause a major scandal.

Is it arrogance or self destruct? He was maybe past caring. We must expect his next mental health crisis imminently which will involve him being admitted to a posh private clinic so all online discussion will have to desist for some bizarre reason. Him and his wife played a blinder last year with her statement and sudden shushing of all speculation because mh.

Runnerinthenight · 31/07/2024 17:03

Well it's true. He has ruined his own life and that of his family, as well as all of the victims.

No, his life is not even remotely ruined compared to the victims. It’s such an insulting thing to say. As someone who was regularly abused as a child, MY life/mental health was ruined. This man will just do some community service, struggle to work and have to sign the sex offenders register, there is NO comparison to being abused as a small child.

They must have panicked so much! Probably hoping to ride out the storm. They would have too, if this hadn't come to light!

I don't believe it is insulting. Obviously you have had a terrible experience that is always going to follow you, and I am sorry you went through that.

However, this is a man who was highly respected and well regarded. A successful decades-long career. A high public profile. A massive salary. An ostensibly happy marriage and five children. He has pissed all that up the wall. He will, rightly, be shunned. His wife is divorcing him; lord only knows what his children are going through. He has driven a juggernaut through their family life. He will never work again. What is he going to do with the rest of his life? Yes, of course, he deserves it but in fairness he has ignited a bomb under the lives of his family and friends, including his poor mother who was probably so proud of him!

HRTQueen · 31/07/2024 18:17

What is he going to do with the rest of his life

Well he is very comfortably off, he will be shunned by many but there will always be some foolish do-gooders who will support him and he will find his way in life. Still no doubt trying to make contacts with those like him and well I hate to think who else he shall try to manipulate

these men don't change, he didn't piss it all up the wall this will have been his secret for a long long time, the hidden choices he has made sadly all those around him have lived a lie

eggplant16 · 31/07/2024 18:23

What is he going to do with the rest of his life? Crawl under a rock.

RepresentMe · 31/07/2024 18:25

Well he was caught out wasn’t he. Hopefully a whole heap of other bastards have been located via the 25 year old Welsh Paedophile’s phone. Obviously his own phone wasn’t investigated thoroughly because ‘no criminality’ was deemed to have been committed when he was communicating and paying someone for dodgy images - that was all obviously deemed to be consensual, if not unbecoming for a BBC Newsreader. I hope the fact that his name was found on this other offenders phone led to a thorough investigation of all his devices.

BIossomtoes · 31/07/2024 18:27

His life is fucked. He’s lost his marriage, his career, his reputation, literally everything, his life’s gone up in flames through his own stupidity. I expect he’ll retreat somewhere and hope the furore dies down at some point.

I just can't understand why someone who literally had it all, would risk it all in this way? Was his life 'too perfect'? Wanted the cheap thrills? Or maybe just a pervert?

MugPlate · 31/07/2024 18:37

High stakes make risk more exciting, not less.

coxesorangepippin · 31/07/2024 18:43

So they wouldn't feel sorry for him if he wasn't highly respected, etc??

If he was a dustman they'd think, oh I shouldn't feel sorry for him cos he doesn't work for the BBC?

Wtf

Find God I expect and write an autobiography about how he's seen the light and been healed.

Scorchio84 · 31/07/2024 18:52

I just read that his paedophilia only came out because the police stumbled upon his number on a another sex offenders phone who they were investigating & came across their WhatsApp messages...

Interl0per · 31/07/2024 18:53

So the BBC say they knew back in November when he was arrested, but were waiting to find out if he was charged before sacking him.
In the interim they gave him a massive payrise, and then let him decide when to resign.

That's ridiculous!
I agree with the principle that people shouldn't be sacked until they're proven guilty, but I don't understand how that means they would keep him on after arrest, but intend to sack him if charged (that's still not guilty yet). If it's an argument that the charges bring the organisation into disrepute, then all the run-up had already done that!

It’s not stupid behaviour. it’s extremely manipulative, selfish, cruel and damaging behaviour. Stupid behaviour is getting caught out having one night stands, or sending sexually explicit videos to other consenting adults and such like foolish ego driven behaviours

his behaviour is implicit in the sexual abuse of children, it’s not a cheap thrill it is dangerous to the children involved and deeply damaging and to their families

why is this being played down so much what he has done is played a part in the sexual abuse of children it’s very serious
