Controlling for being angry at DH using oven

SharpOliveHam · 30/07/2024 13:32

Dh likes to eat healthily which means he never fries any food. Even the 1 cal spray is not acceptable. Fine.

But DH knows I’m very funny about the heat. Hate it and do very well to keep a cool house. I’m the person who goes around closing curtains, opening windows at the optimal time to keep things cool.

Just got off a work call to a sauna downstairs. DH has made himself a fry up (chicken sausages, egg, mushrooms, tomatoes). The kitchen is reading 26c - it was 22.5c when I looked at around 12 pm.

I told dh that this was really selfish behaviour. And now I’ve been called controlling.

AIBU?

It's 26 in my house (without the oven on) I'm heat hating and miserable and I think you are being an utter drama llama and v controlling.

Airfryer a good idea going forward.

pocketaces · 30/07/2024 14:12

You are a grade A nutter

Your dh can cook and eat in his own house, yes the kitchen will heat up over the afternoon naturally.

Bluebirdover · 30/07/2024 14:12

Your poor DH, imagine being controlled like that over lunch!

Couldyounot · 30/07/2024 14:12

For goodness' sake, the pair of you sound deeply peculiar

brunettemic · 30/07/2024 14:12

Is this a genuine question, surely it can’t be?! I’m absolutely baffled at this, it’s utter insanity.

I have a double coated dog and no cooling mat and no cold icy towels have been thrown over her today. I have also used the oven to bake some cake. I must be crazy and an irresponsible dog owner.

Yeah I have two of them and apart from making sure their water bowl is filled with cold water throughout the day and walking them early / late to avoid the midday heat, I do nothing differently.

One is currently lay on the patio in direct sunshine and the other is on the sofa. They just wander round throughout the day and lie where they feel most comfortable.

Not sure what "all the effort" the OP has gone to to keep her dogs cool is 😂

AlisonWonderbra · 30/07/2024 14:13

This can't be real 😂

SlashBeef · 30/07/2024 14:13

You're behaving like you've been unexpectedly parachuted into Abu Dhabi wearing full Inuit attire.
Calm down and have an ice lolly. Your dogs will be fine dozing in some shade.

SharpOliveHam · 30/07/2024 13:37

Opening windows does absolutely no good. My house is or was cooler than outside.

My house?
Is that the issue?
Is it not his house too?
Poor bloke

justfornow1 · 30/07/2024 14:14

Op, you asked AIBU, the over whelming response is yes YABU.

But you're just arguing back with everyone! Maybe listen to the response you've had.

YABU

ShouldhavebeencalledAppollo · 30/07/2024 14:14

I can just imagine op going in back into the kitchen moaning about the temperature on the hive and then banging on about hot it is in there.

Then does it all again 15 mins later. Rather than, just not going in the kitchen.

JulyMume · 30/07/2024 14:14

Yea I think you are being controlling sorry!

Bunnycat101 · 30/07/2024 14:14

For this to be bothering you so much suggests a degree of anxiety or other mental health struggles. It is not normal to prohibit another adult from using the oven to cook food on a hot but not crazily hot day. If we were approaching 40 plus then perhaps but 30 is not so out of the norm to be that problematic re oven use.

IdLikeToBeAFraser · 30/07/2024 14:14

Quite honestly, I don't blame you for being a bit irritated. But YABMassivelyU to have taken it to this level and yes, it IS controlling of you.

Re your dogs - try a cooling bandana. Our dog loves her cooling mat and takes herself there when it's hot (she has high blood pressure so does struggle with the heat) but a nice little bandana is very popular too. I'm just trying to work out if I can face the detour to pick one up for her today (her old one is broken) because I am taking her for an earlier-than-i-would like walk this afternoon.

Edited to add: if your DH only uses the oven, and often cooks for just himself, I highly recommend yo invest in an air fryer. Does a great job, half the time, half the effort and with very little heat being generated that would impact the kitchen.

letsjustdothis · 30/07/2024 14:15

My house is naturally that temperature normally at this time of year. Outside of the UK it's actually considered a normal indoor temperature at any time of year (I am UK born and bred).

We did get aircon though and it changed our lives, honestly. Strong recommend, it's worth every penny and we use it a lot more than I expected.

BirthdayRainbow · 30/07/2024 14:15

Controlling. A martyr. Get a firminator comb for the dogs. No dog needs a frozen towel in them. My dog is a kid on the rug, in front of a fan and is perfectly fine. 27 degrees here.

HorseAreBetterThanHumans · 30/07/2024 14:15

You are being odd.

We have a double coated dog (rescue too!).
We cooked sausages for lunch (far better to cook hot food now, than when it is even hotter later). Kitchen got quite warm, sausages lovely.
Dog sat under DH desk now not remotely bothered about the kitchen warmth.

Main Q is did DH share fry up with dogs. If not, he is BU as well as you.

Dog would think I was insane if I threw frozen towels on her. She is more interested in the sausages.

Wishimaywishimight · 30/07/2024 14:16

I'd hate to see how you react to an actual crisis if a warmer than usual house sends you into such a frenzy.

HowardTJMoon · 30/07/2024 14:16

GrumpyPanda · 30/07/2024 13:51

You do realize a fan does absolutely nothing to lower temperatures?

It doesn't lower the air temperature, no. But a fan blowing mid-20deg air across your skin does make you feel cooler. Even more so if you mist some water on your skin first.

VJBR · 30/07/2024 14:16

SharpOliveHam · 30/07/2024 14:02

The kitchen is now 26c according to hive. I checked at around 12 pm and it was nowhere near that.

I just went and touched range and it is scolding to the touch still. The kitchen was lovely and cool for the dogs and now it is the hottest room in the house.

You are being completely ridiculous. The kitchen probably would have heated up anyway. As for all the paddling pool and cold towel palaver- just put the mutts in another room.

StJulian2023 · 30/07/2024 14:17

YABU but also a bit baffled that his meal is described as a healthy meal - it isn’t

tinkertailorsoldierpie · 30/07/2024 14:17

OP has stopped responding, so we can only assume she has melted.

AGodawfulsmallaffair · 30/07/2024 14:17

Blimey op, this is bat shit nuts. He’s had breakfast, not set fire to the house.
