Controlling for being angry at DH using oven

SharpOliveHam · 30/07/2024 13:32

Dh likes to eat healthily which means he never fries any food. Even the 1 cal spray is not acceptable. Fine.

But DH knows I’m very funny about the heat. Hate it and do very well to keep a cool house. I’m the person who goes around closing curtains, opening windows at the optimal time to keep things cool.

Just got off a work call to a sauna downstairs. DH has made himself a fry up (chicken sausages, egg, mushrooms, tomatoes). The kitchen is reading 26c - it was 22.5c when I looked at around 12 pm.

I told dh that this was really selfish behaviour. And now I’ve been called controlling.

AIBU?

Are you just annoyed that he didn't cook lunch for you too?!

Is there really nowhere else the dogs can be, apart from the kitchen? Mine are heavy coated, they're doing just fine without any frozen towels ..

It’s far too hot too open the windows if it’s 22C indoors, windows open only work when it’s cooler outside than inside.

If it’s 28C outdoors and now 26C indoors due to oven being on there is nothing anyone can do now, house is stuck at that temperature until it cools overnight. Fans just blow air around and opening windows will make it worse.

Using the oven during the middle of the day when it’s forecast to be 30C outside is unacceptable. Trying to keep a house cool
for self and pets is not controlling - it’s sensible!

I agree! DH and I exist on salads when the weather is like this, we have a mutual understanding not to use any ovens, especially as the kitchen is the coolest room in the house and we're living in there at the moment until sundown!

MyUmberSeal · 30/07/2024 14:05

This post cannot be legit, well ok it is, but it’s bonkers.
Your husband cooks himself some food in his kitchen and you’ve lost your shit with him. If I said that to my husband, he would tell me to stop being a bellend (and he would be correct). Come on now…give your hubby a break and go and get yourself an ice cream! It’s all good.

purplecorkheart · 30/07/2024 14:06

I would look into getting rid of the range then if it going to cause such hassle and replace with a normal oven which will not heat up the room so much.

paradisecityx · 30/07/2024 14:06

Very controlling behaviour.
Obsessional.

The kitchen is now 26c according to hive. I checked at around 12 pm and it was nowhere near that.

I just went and touched range and it is scolding to the touch still. The kitchen was lovely and cool for the dogs and now it is the hottest room in the house.

It was 22.5. You said yourself. Not sure I would say 22.5 is nowhere near 26.
It will be back down to 22.5 very soon.

have you tried putting a frozen towel on the cooker to close it down?

Stumpedasatree · 30/07/2024 14:06

I have a double coated dog and no cooling mat and no cold icy towels have been thrown over her today. I have also used the oven to bake some cake. I must be crazy and an irresponsible dog owner.

ForgettingMeNot · 30/07/2024 14:07

Yanbu in my opinion. While it's this hot did he really need a fry up!

godmum56 · 30/07/2024 14:07

he made a fry up in the oven?

MonsteraMama · 30/07/2024 14:08

Love threads like this.

OP: Am I being unreasonable?
Everyone: Yes
OP: NO I'M NOT

he made a fry up in the oven?

I agree - this is the real mystery to the story.

tinkertailorsoldierpie · 30/07/2024 14:09

This is psychotic behaviour. It's hot, yes. But he lives there, too, and shouldn't have to creep around your temperature boundaries and not eat foods he wants to eat because of it. If someone did this to me, I'd tell them to get lost. Get yourself a cool jacket if you like being cold and stop inflicting your quirks on everyone else.

Why aren't you answering anyone's questions about how this has heated up your entire house? If the kitchen is now hot, surely there are other rooms in your house which are not? Or do you live in a massive box with no walls?

Yanbu in my opinion. While it's this hot did he really need a fry up!

Firstly, with temperatures in the mid twenties, it really isn't that hot.

Secondly, he can eat what he likes.

I don't know much about the OP's breed of dog, but it seems absurd to me to have pets that get in the way of ordinary day to day decisions.

Shoxfordian · 30/07/2024 14:10

Yabu really, you'll cool down again, have a cold drink, turn a fan on

BlackPanther75 · 30/07/2024 14:10

You’re the one being selfish here

also telling someone they can’t cook because the dogs may get too hot 🙄

I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume it’s the heat causing you to act like this

but best you go and apologise to your husband for your craziness earlier

millymoo1202 · 30/07/2024 14:10

You sound nuts!

Oh FFS get a grip. We have a Range and there is no way that 2 hours after turning the oven off that it is still "scalding to the touch" 🙄

Move the dogs out of the kitchen then. Put them in a cool room with a fan and a bucket of ice in front of it.

You are very controlling. Your husband can cook in his own house, whatever he wants to eat. If this was a man saying this everyone would be saying LTB and if this is how you behave normally, he probably should leave you.

GoogleWhacked · 30/07/2024 14:10

Why did you bother making a thread to ask if yabu, then argue your point with everyone who is saying Yes, you are????

NetflixAndKill · 30/07/2024 14:11

I’d be more pissed off at the smell tbh.

FFS don’t go in the kitchen until later then!

Keep your dogs away from the kitchen in a dark room with a fan and their cold towels.

You’re being fucking ridiculous and you probably feel more hot now by being angry.

Toastcrumbsinsofa · 30/07/2024 14:11

I’m going to go against the majority and say that he was selfish to have the oven on. He really didn’t need to make a fry up in the middle of the hottest day of the year so far!

sunsetsandboardwalks · 30/07/2024 14:11

Yes, YABU.

It's his house, if he wants to cook himself a fry up, he can.

26 degrees isn't so warm that your dogs are going to suffer indoors and in the shade - they certainly don't need to have frozen towels chucked on them all the time!

gamerchick · 30/07/2024 14:12

But double coats are useful for heat as well cold though. You're being a bit obsessive and your bloke has the right to use the oven all he wants. You can't tell him to just go have a salad.
