Controlling for being angry at DH using oven

SharpOliveHam · 30/07/2024 13:32

Dh likes to eat healthily which means he never fries any food. Even the 1 cal spray is not acceptable. Fine.

But DH knows I’m very funny about the heat. Hate it and do very well to keep a cool house. I’m the person who goes around closing curtains, opening windows at the optimal time to keep things cool.

Just got off a work call to a sauna downstairs. DH has made himself a fry up (chicken sausages, egg, mushrooms, tomatoes). The kitchen is reading 26c - it was 22.5c when I looked at around 12 pm.

I told dh that this was really selfish behaviour. And now I’ve been called controlling.

Didn't the son fib about how he was spending his time, and also about his grades?

The poor boy - it was clearly all her fault.

He's going to leave you if you carry on like that. A thermometer to police his thermal output? Seriously?

@Jan1863 and who would not put that on their Christmas list?

Ladies! Step away from your husband and the oven and let the Thermal-Police-O-Meter calculate his thermal output for you in one handy reading! Easy to follow instructions for every climate and even where to stick it!

No, don't be grateful. He's a grown man why can't he cook for himself.

If someone always cooks for someone else because they won't then more fool them.

Priceless! You mean you don't wait on your DH hand and foot, I never understand woman who don't! 🤣🤣🤣

Missmarplesknittingbuddy · 30/07/2024 20:40

If you could heat the entire house by just cooking sausages no-one would have a huge heating bill , we could all sit around one or two well done sausages and save a fortune.

This thread is hysterical! 🤣

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 30/07/2024 21:47

Rachel Reeves to announce she’s giving free sausages to pensioners this winter

ButWhatAboutTheBees · 30/07/2024 21:47

There's always one who will call a man selfish for being perfectly normal

I bet if OP had said her DH had acted this way towards her, told her she couldn't use the oven as it was "too hot" he wouldn't be reasonable and she'd be told to LTB

Oh that would make sense
Maybe he uses the oven too and was scared of OP's reaction

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 30/07/2024 21:50

OP could stick a frozen sossie up her arse and one each up the dog’s arses to beat this oh so oppressive heat

But only chicken sausages

Gotabadfeelingaboutthis · 30/07/2024 21:50

You asked if you were being unreasonable, clearly by all the responses on here you ARE being unreasonable, yet you just keep arguing about why you aren't unreasonable?! What exactly do you want from this @SharpOliveHam ? It is unreasonable to try to dictate to another adult what they can and can't eat/do in their own house. It is unreasonable to be so obsessed with the weather than people are only allowed salads!! Something like 40% of UK households own a dog and I am sure they aren't all eating salads and banning cooking in warm weather 😄Obviously the temp is your house has gone up because the outside temp has gone up from midday. I think you need to relax a bit tbh.

DBD1975 · 30/07/2024 21:54

It's threads like this that make me so grateful for Mumsnet. I am laughing out loud reading this it is beyond hysterical, Mumsnet rocks! 🤣🤣🤣

DiscontentedPig · 30/07/2024 15:39

I can't imagine making a fry-up just for myself whilst my wife was on a work call.

Turns out it was done in the oven, which is what the hoohah is about. Just because it is hot one does not stop using the oven. What if I want to bake a birthday cake, have baked potatoes and salad? OP is daft. DH should leave - and take the dogs.

RomanticOutlaws · 30/07/2024 22:02

Has anyone been able to clarify what type of cooker it was? I'm not sure if OP mentioned it.

MildredSauce · 30/07/2024 22:11

The fact that OP's voted more unreasonable than the woman who said her 1 year old told her "no more Christmas presents, mother, I'd rather contribute the cash to our family holidays" says it all....

Wordysmith · 30/07/2024 22:15

Oh my days…too funny…is that a recent thread? @MildredSauce 😂

Absolutely is. I might be paraphrasing for effect, but not much!

Not sure if you're allowed to drop links but I guess if not I'll get deleted. Forgiveness rather than permission. A bit like this OP's husband with his chicken bangers!

Maybe you and DH should invest in an air fryer.

Helplessandheartbroke · 30/07/2024 22:33

What have I just read??? The Xmas poster too.... my days....

PrimitivePerson · 30/07/2024 22:41

In my almost 50 years on this planet, I have never, ever met anyone who has ever considered it hot enough to ban use of the oven.

It wasn't even that hot either.

I know!!! The hottest weather I've experienced is around 45 degrees, and people were still cooking in it. I've met plenty of people with weird foibles in my time, but never this one.

I can see the poor boy hanging out on street corners looking around furtively “uh hey man you got an oven I could use…umm I’ll share my sausages with you”
