Controlling for being angry at DH using oven

SharpOliveHam · 30/07/2024 13:32

Dh likes to eat healthily which means he never fries any food. Even the 1 cal spray is not acceptable. Fine.

But DH knows I’m very funny about the heat. Hate it and do very well to keep a cool house. I’m the person who goes around closing curtains, opening windows at the optimal time to keep things cool.

Just got off a work call to a sauna downstairs. DH has made himself a fry up (chicken sausages, egg, mushrooms, tomatoes). The kitchen is reading 26c - it was 22.5c when I looked at around 12 pm.

I told dh that this was really selfish behaviour. And now I’ve been called controlling.

AIBU?

OP: Am I being unreasonable.

Everyone: Yes, yes you are.

OP: No I’m not. But but but……

Your poor husband 😢

It’s not needless. I have double coated dogs.

Not shaving double coated dogs is a complete myth. Perfectly reasonable to shave them if they're suffering in the heat. Their coats will be absolutely fine.

Rip up any carpets, tile the floors like they do in hot countries 💁

LadyPenelope68 · 30/07/2024 17:33

This has to be one of the most bizarre posts ever on Mumsnet. You are absolutely controlling (and unhinged), you want to stop him cooking in his own house just because you and the dogs get too hot??? 😂😂😂😂

SeeSeeRider · 30/07/2024 17:33

Crystalselfcare · 30/07/2024 13:34

YABU and controlling

And a bit nutty, if I'm being honest.

Catsbreakfast · 30/07/2024 17:33

SharpOliveHam · 30/07/2024 13:37

Opening windows does absolutely no good. My house is or was cooler than outside.

youre still controlling, no matter how many arguments you have to scramble for

BlondeFool · 30/07/2024 17:34

This can't be real.

Batshit crazy.

SharpOliveHam · 30/07/2024 13:39

I had a ham sad for lunch precisely so I didn’t heat up house.

Im the one running around throwing frozen cold towels on dogs.

Well it seems I no longer have to worry about expensively heating my house in the winter, I’ll just make a fry up.

Stowickthevast · 30/07/2024 17:35

What's going on today with this and the no tits on the beach post? Is it just the summer holidays?

I had my oven on at lunchtime.... I survived and so did my cats and family.

SharpOliveHam · 30/07/2024 13:41

I’m not telling him he can’t use it but I’m calling him out on being selfish. His meal has impacted the entire household.

That's a contradiction he can use it but he's selfish if he does ....maybe your being selfish in dictating that he can only have cold food.

SomeonTookMyAnonymousUserName · 30/07/2024 17:36

What absolute bat-shittery! Sending your DH my first ever LTB 😂😂

Yougotwhatstuckwhere · 30/07/2024 17:36

Get advice from your vet about your dogs. I don't believe wet from the freezer towels are recommended.
Once you've done that maybe you can leave your husband (if he hasn't already fucked off) to get on with making what ever he wants to eat because
A) he's an adult
B) he lives there too!!
Then maybe check with your GP because you sound very very stressed.....

Yourdemonsyourproblem · 30/07/2024 17:39

I think you're wrong here op

lateatwork · 30/07/2024 17:40

Close the kitchen off to the rest of the house.

Open the windows / doors into the kitchen when it gets cooler outside.

It may not help much- but will make you feel like you are doing something.

You are being controlling. Which I think you know too.

BitOutOfPractice · 30/07/2024 17:40

Yanbu OP. I have just filed for a legal separation from dp because he came in from work all hot from walking home and insisted on giving me a kiss which made my inner core temperature rise by 0.25%. Bastard.

Im now lying in a chest freezer with a husky to recover.

😂😂😂😂
Sort yourself out! You should go have a cold shower and imagine what it must be like living with you!

somanynamesbynow · 30/07/2024 17:45

Agree with you OP! Some houses are really, really hot and that sounds selfish. He could have eaten a salad.

Robyn847 · 30/07/2024 17:46

SharpOliveHam · 30/07/2024 14:18

I’m annoyed because the house is now warmer than it needed to be for the rest of the day. Yesterday it hit 29c here. I managed to keep the house below 23c.

All because one person fancied a fry up.

Does David Attenborough know about this? Polar ice-caps melting, higher occurrence of tropical storms, ocean temperatures warming up and extreme weather events on the increase? Climate Scientists are assuming global warming is due to the excessive burning of fossil fuels - and all along its been due to your husband opening the oven door to periodically check on his baked potatoes?

Don't anyone tell Greta Thunberg, she'll never cope.

JabbaTheBeachHut · 30/07/2024 17:47

No, you're the selfish one.

You don't like the heat, so he has to jump through your hoops.

And as for running round throwing wet towels over your dogs? If I did that my dogs would think I've lost the plot 😳

Stick a fan on and chill out.

SwordToFlamethrower · 30/07/2024 17:48

Yep, that's ridiculous on your part.

Wordysmith · 30/07/2024 17:48

I’d hate to live with someone like you. You and the dogs will just need to get over it. Absolutely absurd. You’re the selfish one.

SwordToFlamethrower · 30/07/2024 17:48

Wrap the dogs paws in cold towels or get a cool pad!

lateatwork · 30/07/2024 17:48

I'm thinking that what bothers you, doesn't bother your DH. Do you think he knew it would annoy you, but he did it anyway? Or is it that he didn't consider you when he did it? There is indeed an impact on heat in the kitchen when the oven is on- and depending how your house is set up- this may impact where you normally work, sit, chill etc

I'm guessing this is the end point of a lot of friction. And you are hyperfocussed on this because you are hot, your don't like to be hot, and you think DH has deliberately made you hot. This is a rabbit hole. The connection seems logical now, but may not later

@somanynamesbynow

he can eat what he wants. Op and the dogs will just have to get over it 🤷‍♀️

IdiotPolice · 30/07/2024 17:49

Buy him an air fryer if a hot lunch is that big a deal.

And yes you’re being incredibly controlling. Poor bloke.

ThisBlueCrab · 30/07/2024 17:50

Oh somebody please tell me this is a reverse. Surely you cannot be that devoid of sensibility to not see that you are totally unreasonable, massively controlling and completely batshit.
