Controlling for being angry at DH using oven

SharpOliveHam · 30/07/2024 13:32

Dh likes to eat healthily which means he never fries any food. Even the 1 cal spray is not acceptable. Fine.

But DH knows I’m very funny about the heat. Hate it and do very well to keep a cool house. I’m the person who goes around closing curtains, opening windows at the optimal time to keep things cool.

Just got off a work call to a sauna downstairs. DH has made himself a fry up (chicken sausages, egg, mushrooms, tomatoes). The kitchen is reading 26c - it was 22.5c when I looked at around 12 pm.

I told dh that this was really selfish behaviour. And now I’ve been called controlling.

AIBU?

There’s something wrong with your oven if using it heats the kitchen up by 4 degrees in like 20 mins. In fact use it in winter in lieu of heating!

willWillSmithsmith · 30/07/2024 17:13

Well I couldn’t live with someone where I was scared to use the oven. Maybe an air fryer would be a good purchase.

Sugarlily · 30/07/2024 17:15

You clearly hate your husband. This isn't about a fry up. So just leave.

feelingbattered · 30/07/2024 17:15

SharpOliveHam · 30/07/2024 13:39

I had a ham sad for lunch precisely so I didn’t heat up house.

Im the one running around throwing frozen cold towels on dogs.

Are you nuts?

HamBagelNoCheese · 30/07/2024 16:59

This is the same poster whose teenager pretended to go to college for 2 years because they couldn't tell them they failed their first year and did an access course instead.

Can't think why 🤔

Ah I remember that thread. Hmm a teen too scared to tell the truth and a man having to be scared to use the oven. Not a home I’d want to live in.

GiddyMoose · 30/07/2024 17:15

YABU. Appreciate it’s hot and I have two dogs I am trying to keep cool but not letting people eat? Madness.

Boomer55 · 30/07/2024 17:16

Yes, you are controlling.🙄

TheLizardQueen · 30/07/2024 17:18

You shouldn’t be putting cold towels on the dogs - It is important NOT to place the dog into cold water or put wet towels over them. The cold water can send them into shock and the towels can warm up and act as a barrier, making the animal even hotter. It is also difficult to prevent the temperature from dropping too low once the animal is wet.
And yes you are being very unreasonable being mad at your DH. Does he need to ask permission to cook on a hot day?

Mumof2heroes · 30/07/2024 17:18

Not sure about your house but it's absolutely roasting on here

Blackthorne · 30/07/2024 17:19

It’s so good to know there are people far far more unreasonable than me out there. This post has made me feel quite sane. Thank you OP.

saltinesandcoffeecups · 30/07/2024 17:22

Just so I’m on the same page 26F = 80 F and you were running around the house at 22.5C or 72F?

Well first off all that running is likely making you hot. Second leave the poor dogs alone, they’re fine. Third let your poor husband cook breakfast.

You do know that’s posts like these that make the rest of the world giggle… I’ve got the central air on today but our high will be around 33C/92F and the humidity is crazy. Our dog would have been running around doggy daycare today and the cats are mad me because they can’t sleep on the porch in the heat.

if it weren’t for the high humidity I would not have bothered with the aircon but I don’t like working in the equivalent of hot soup. I don’t even live in a particularly hot climate (nor want to I prefer the cooler temps). 80F is a perfect summer day.

Polyp0 · 30/07/2024 17:23

I was giving you the benefit of the doubt on the 'teen didn't tell us he'd failed his exams' thread, but I'm afraid this one makes it look like you are the problem.

PetulantPenguin · 30/07/2024 13:36

I totally sympathise with your dislike of heat but yes you are being unreasonable and no I want a fry up. Double unreasonable 🤣

This totally, I now want a fry up as well! 😀

Tumbleweed101 · 30/07/2024 17:24

Is investing in a portable air con unit and option? It would ensure the dogs are kept cool in future years too.

DBD1975 · 30/07/2024 17:25

Be grateful he cooked it himself, my partner would have wanted me to cook it for him! 🤣

Noooo, is this the same OP? Totally agree with you.

I was waiting for the drip feed that he didn’t clean up or heated the kitchen another degree by using hot water to wash up.

thecatsthecats · 30/07/2024 17:27

I can believe that the room went up 4 degrees from cooker use.

My son's bedroom temp goes up 3-4 degrees during bedtime just due to there being three people in there with the door closed. So a smaller room without airflow would definitely warm up quickly from the input of literal heat.

Polyp0 · 30/07/2024 17:27

Everyone suggesting aircon as the solution - anyone who's lived with someone like the OP knows that they'll just transfer their control to a new area if their demands are met.

No, don't be grateful. He's a grown man why can't he cook for himself.

If someone always cooks for someone else because they won't then more fool them.

purplecorkheart · 30/07/2024 17:27

Actually, thinking back I think there was a similar post to this last year.

Pablova · 30/07/2024 17:28

26 degrees is not that hot, honestly the hysteria over a few days off warm weather is ridiculous.
And leave those poor dogs alone, their coat serves a purpose in both cold and warm weather, they can self regulate body temperature.

Our very furry dog is currently splayed out on the garden furniture sunning himself, when he gets too hot he’ll seek out a cool spot.

EerieSilence · 30/07/2024 17:30

You're a nutjob.
Or, to put it nicely and politically correctly: you need psychiatric help.

TheCoolOliveBalonz · 30/07/2024 17:31

Our house is too well insulated. We also work hard to stop it heating up. We avoid using the oven on hot days. Bit surely it didn't make it 4 degrees hotter?

PaminaMozart · 30/07/2024 17:31

You are getting a bit of a bashing here, @SharpOliveHam - though I can see why...

I would suggest you get one of those electric frying pans and/or an air fryer for these kinds of small fry-up meals.
