Controlling for being angry at DH using oven

SharpOliveHam · 30/07/2024 13:32

Dh likes to eat healthily which means he never fries any food. Even the 1 cal spray is not acceptable. Fine.

But DH knows I’m very funny about the heat. Hate it and do very well to keep a cool house. I’m the person who goes around closing curtains, opening windows at the optimal time to keep things cool.

Just got off a work call to a sauna downstairs. DH has made himself a fry up (chicken sausages, egg, mushrooms, tomatoes). The kitchen is reading 26c - it was 22.5c when I looked at around 12 pm.

I told dh that this was really selfish behaviour. And now I’ve been called controlling.

Solution is to trot out to argos, currys, wherever, in an air conditioned car and buy a decent air fryer, an extension cable and a camping table so the poor fucker can cook his fry up outside without you bursting a blood vessel.

It's not hard.

RomanticOutlaws · 30/07/2024 16:21

THE DOGS ARE DOUBLE COATED. 😂

KeirSpoutsTwaddle · 30/07/2024 16:23

PuddlesPityParty · 30/07/2024 16:04

How much heat do you seriously think putting the oven on for a bit causes? 🙄

Loads! That’s why ovens are inefficient. It uses lots of electricity to get them hot, then keep them hot.
That heat radiates out into the kitchen. It’s basic science. Using an oven to cook, say, a chicken uses much more power than using a slow cooker, and using an electric pressure cooker takes even less.

TVRose · 30/07/2024 16:24

I’m with you OP. We only cook outside on the BBQ during a heat wave or eat salads as we work hard opening and shutting windows and doors and curtains early and late to keep the house cool.

Any oven that isn't some stupid AGA thing is not going to put out enough heat in 40 minutes to increase the temperature of a room by 4 degrees.

It's just not.

Solution is for the OP to unclench, not to ban use of the oven.

NewName24 · 30/07/2024 16:25

I'm with the 94%
Your dh is right, you ARE being controlling.
You are also being somewhat bonkers.

I've read all your posts, but can't see that you have explained anywhere why you don't just put a fan in in whatever room you are, if you are this affected by the heat today ?
The dogs will soon move to where they are most comfortable - I'm not sure sticking a frozen towel on any animal that is feeling the heat, is the right thing to do.

thankyouangela · 30/07/2024 16:27

This is a really weird post.am I reading it right:
Dh likes to eat healthily which means he never fries any food.
but
DH has made himself a fry up (chicken sausages, egg, mushrooms, tomatoes).
?

And the fact this seems like a non-event. Man had to eat. Doesn't happen everyday.

Weird.

momtoboys · 30/07/2024 16:28

You are being unreasonable.

MildredSauce · 30/07/2024 16:30

Counting how many times you've said RANGE cooker.

Your poor old man. All he wanted was a chicken sausage....😂

Dahliaaaa · 30/07/2024 16:30

How does your husband cope!? Give him a medal

Yeah it’s not upped the whole house by 4 degrees like OP claims though has it. Ridiculous.

SharpOliveHam · 30/07/2024 14:00

I live in England. It is perfectly mild enough for my dogs except for a handful of days a year. And I do very well to keep them cool on unseasonably hot days.

They are both rescues. Don’t be ridiculous

The double-coat is an insulator - it keeps them warmer in winter and cooler in summer - that's why you don't shave double-coated dogs. It's unlikely your frozen towels are doing much, but using a fan to keep circulating air and cooling it is a good idea.

Work hard 😂 god you make it sound like an Olympic sport. That’s what most people do but they don’t act like it’s some onerous task.

NewGreenDuck · 30/07/2024 16:32

Thanks for having a barbecue and stinking everyone's back garden to high heaven.

permanently · 30/07/2024 16:32

Dear dear me. Dogs are cryin

WinnerWinnerCDinner · 30/07/2024 16:33

Have you got a flat faced dog?

momtoboys · 30/07/2024 16:33

SharpOliveHam · 30/07/2024 14:18

I’m annoyed because the house is now warmer than it needed to be for the rest of the day. Yesterday it hit 29c here. I managed to keep the house below 23c.

All because one person fancied a fry up.

You don't really want to know if we think you are being unreasonable. You just want someone to argue with.

Jan1863 · 30/07/2024 16:34

He's going to leave you if you carry on like that. A thermometer to police his thermal output? Seriously?

GiveMeThePurpleOne · 30/07/2024 16:34

Yabu buy an air con unit and some cooling mats for the dogs.. Job done.
You can't tell someone they can't cook just because you don't like it.

Mynewnameis · 30/07/2024 16:35

I avoided using the oven during the severe heat wave two years ago. Dh was aware and it would have been very odd had he then put the oven on.

mumto2teenagers · 30/07/2024 16:35

If it's only the kitchen that is hot, keep the dogs in another room.

We have 2 dogs and are very careful to make sure they don't get too hot, we avoid walks on hot days where the pavements could burn their feet and don't let them lay outside in the sun, but inside the house they are fine as long as they have plenty of fresh water and a fan they can lay in front of.

You sound crazy, and it's extremely controlling not allowing your DH to cook a meal in the kitchen.

GreatTheCat · 30/07/2024 16:35

Bonkers!
A adult male makes some food in a kitchen and the wife going mad.

YABU

pocketaces · 30/07/2024 16:35

Can you imagine if he'd made some toast to go with his fryup. I can just imagine OP seeing the element glowing red in her kitchen, adding more heat, and getting more wound up by the second

Winter2020 · 30/07/2024 16:35

I've been out for a lovely buffet style hot breakfast in the pub today. You could ask your husband if he would mind going out if he fancies a fry up on very hot days. You might find he is very happy to do that - I would be.

Ah, I know. Just trying to offer a solution rather than tell OP she's a loon.
