Controlling for being angry at DH using oven

SharpOliveHam · 30/07/2024 13:32

Dh likes to eat healthily which means he never fries any food. Even the 1 cal spray is not acceptable. Fine.

But DH knows I’m very funny about the heat. Hate it and do very well to keep a cool house. I’m the person who goes around closing curtains, opening windows at the optimal time to keep things cool.

Just got off a work call to a sauna downstairs. DH has made himself a fry up (chicken sausages, egg, mushrooms, tomatoes). The kitchen is reading 26c - it was 22.5c when I looked at around 12 pm.

I told dh that this was really selfish behaviour. And now I’ve been called controlling.

AIBU?

Your poor husband
whilst 26 is hot nobody is going to spontaneously combust

TeenLifeMum · 30/07/2024 16:06

Omg, as an adult I cannot imagine living in an environment where I have to tread on egg shells for just wanting to use an oven for my meal! You cannot control adults to that degree - that outrageous. It’s hot for a few days. Seriously, get a grip!

focacciamuffin · 30/07/2024 16:06

I’m feeling a little chilly. The temperature in here has dropped to 28.5.

TattoedLady · 30/07/2024 16:06

SharpOliveHam · 30/07/2024 13:37

Opening windows does absolutely no good. My house is or was cooler than outside.

Surely you mean "our" house?

grapesstrawberriesplease · 30/07/2024 16:06

Get a grip.

pinkstripeycat · 30/07/2024 16:06

Like PP said, get a fan.

My dog won’t be cooled with a paddling pool, cool towels or any means, he just has to lay flat and keep still. Doesn’t stop me cooking though.

Get an air fryer so DH doesn’t have to heat the oven. I doubt an oven heats the kitchen by THAT much. If it does, get rid of it as it’s not economical, a huge waste of energy and making a big carbon footprint.

You really are hard work and very odd.

ScrollingLeaves · 30/07/2024 16:09

People must be able to use the oven.
if you are so distressed by the heat could you open the window and get a fan?

ActualChips · 30/07/2024 16:09

Most dogs have an undercoat. It helps keep them cool, shaving would make them much, much hotter.

Don't freeze towels or fill paddling pools if it's a big deal.

Fercullen · 30/07/2024 16:10

I sympathise OP, you’ve worked hard to keep the house cool and now it’s broiling for the sake a few sausages. Unless you typically control what he cooks, I don’t think it’s controlling at all. I’d be really annoyed too in fact I have been annoyed in a similar situation.

DavidBeckhamsrightfoot · 30/07/2024 16:02

You're telling me not to be ridiculous 🤣🤣

Have you met you?!

And no it's not ridiculous to expect responsible dog owners to choose dogs based on their needs.
If you can't meet their needs without this ridiculousness then you have failed

Have you met you? 😂 brilliant!

Keswick1967 · 30/07/2024 16:11

So what will happen when it’s time to cook your evening meal surely your kitchen will get hot then, or don’t you have hot meals when it’s warm outside?

JackieGoodman · 30/07/2024 16:11

Agree, you need an air fryer.
And also, double coats help keep dogs cool

Beezknees · 30/07/2024 16:11

OP, pretty much everyone on this thread has said YABU. Take it on the chin and apologise to DH. Nothing worse than people who can't accept when they are wrong.

AinmEile · 30/07/2024 16:11

Very controlling, and not listening to any replies, it seems

TheLastTimeEver · 30/07/2024 16:12

You really sound bonkers. The man can’t cook in his own house? Catch yourself on, honestly.

AgathaX · 30/07/2024 16:12

Your poor husband.

Plimsoll73 · 30/07/2024 16:13

I'm assuming it's also his house to do as he pleases.

So yes YABU, and controlling, and also very selfish to be fair - you want to put yourself above what he wants.

butterpuffed · 30/07/2024 16:13

SharpOliveHam · 30/07/2024 13:40

We have an extra wide range and the kitchen is sweltering now.

What does an extra wide range have to do with it , or is he using an extra wide frying pan...

TheLastTimeEver · 30/07/2024 16:13

You do realise @SharpOliveHam the point of AIBU is to listen when you are told by over 90% of people that you are being unreasonable???

It's very entertaining to read though 😂

I’m annoyed because the house is now warmer than it needed to be for the rest of the day. Yesterday it hit 29c here. I managed to keep the house below 23c.

All because one person fancied a fry up.

It's probable that the ambient temperature would have risen in any case. Your OH making lunch won't have had that big an effect. Honestly OP, I think you owe him an apology. YABVU in my opinion.

user1492757084 · 30/07/2024 16:16

Put two things on the birthday list.
An airfryer for DH and a portable air conditioner or a reverse cycle cooler for you.

Both you and your husband could be more respectful of each other on these odd very warm days.

Now that the house is very hot I suggest that you, dogs and all, take a family trip to a very large air conditioned shopping complex or other public buildings that are well cooled.
Follow up with a lovely evening walk in a leafy forrest or dip at the beach before eating a cold meal in a cooled off home.

GinAndBeerIt · 30/07/2024 16:17

I'm trying to imagine my husband's reaction if I told him he couldn't use a household appliance, or he was selfish for doing so 😂
I have dogs and I certainly haven't been throwing towels over them, frozen or otherwise, they just lay on their cooling mat in front of the fan.
They're quite happy.

Marseillaise · 30/07/2024 16:17

SharpOliveHam · 30/07/2024 13:39

I had a ham sad for lunch precisely so I didn’t heat up house.

Im the one running around throwing frozen cold towels on dogs.

Why are you running around? It'll only make you more hot and bothered, and the dogs won't melt if they have to wait a few more seconds for their cold towels.

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 30/07/2024 16:18

This is a wonderfully loony thread
