Controlling for being angry at DH using oven

SharpOliveHam · 30/07/2024 13:32

Dh likes to eat healthily which means he never fries any food. Even the 1 cal spray is not acceptable. Fine.

But DH knows I’m very funny about the heat. Hate it and do very well to keep a cool house. I’m the person who goes around closing curtains, opening windows at the optimal time to keep things cool.

Just got off a work call to a sauna downstairs. DH has made himself a fry up (chicken sausages, egg, mushrooms, tomatoes). The kitchen is reading 26c - it was 22.5c when I looked at around 12 pm.

I told dh that this was really selfish behaviour. And now I’ve been called controlling.

AIBU?

You get yourself a fry up, OP. You sound very hangry.

Jeschara · 30/07/2024 15:49

Controlling, yes definitely, he will leave if you carry on. He cooked himself a meal. You are behaving badly.

DrDisrespect · 30/07/2024 15:49

Get an air fryer

longtompot · 30/07/2024 15:50

@SharpOliveHam you'd hate me, I've got the tumble dryer on!

In my defence we have solar panels so it's free energy, and as it's so sunny I'be decided to wash our feather pillows and they need to be tumbled to dry them properly. The dryer is in the utility right by the back door so not in the house.

BluebirdBoogie · 30/07/2024 15:51

Why are you asking if YABU? Everyone has told you you are and you still won't admit it!

WeeOrcadian · 30/07/2024 15:52

OP: AIBU?
EVERYONE: YABU
OP: but X, but Y
EVERYONE: YABU
OP: no......

OP. You've got a stick up your arse. Your DH wanted some food. Your kitchen will cool down.

Or

LTB and let him marry someone who isn't a control freak and live a happy, fry-up filled life without the grief.

YABU but you don't want to listen to reason.

LuckySantangelo35 · 30/07/2024 15:52

It’s not even that hot

FamBae · 30/07/2024 15:53

I have a double coated rescue dog from Macedonia, she is a Malamute / Carpathian Shepherd cross and has a coat like a Bear. She will be 5° cooler under her coat in summer and 5° warmer in winter, she's used to 50° summers and knows all the cool spots in our house and wont go near a paddling pool😁I'm only saying this because I think you can afford to relax a little.

haveacat · 30/07/2024 15:54

At a total tangent.

He doesn't fry food but had a fry-up. He only eats healthily but was eating sausages (which are extremely processed and definitely not healthy).

Not criticising anyone's food choices. (Sausages are quite tasty).

It all sounds a bit bonkers. 😁

Jazz7 · 30/07/2024 15:54

Surely the dogs can go into another cooler room in the house? I sympathise with hating the heat It is also worth getting a portable air conditioner. Then you can keep one room cool with the door and windows shut (try to have good seal where vent goes out one window). I do that and me and the dogs go there. Also if you put a bowl of ice in front of a fan in the kitchen it will cool down the room quicker.

DPotter · 30/07/2024 15:55

I don't know about controlling but your reaction is completely over the top.

26C is not swelteringly hot and it's certainly not the temperature of a sauna. It probably feels hotter to you as you've got yourself all unnecessary and are 'running around' trying to cool down your dogs.

Get yourself back to your work, with a cool drink. And seriously take on board the thoughts and suggestions people have been saying here today. And then go and apologise to your husband.

Cnidarian · 30/07/2024 15:56

Yes, yes you are. If you really truly cannot tolerate it to this extent you could get air conditioning or move to the North East it is a balmy 23 here.

SharpOliveHam · 30/07/2024 15:16

More surface area was my only point

Stop moaning about it and buy the poor guy an air fryer. If you’re so obsessive about this you really should consider getting a/c installed.

This is very unreasonable of you. It’s his house too

I live in England. It is perfectly mild enough for my dogs except for a handful of days a year. And I do very well to keep them cool on unseasonably hot days.

They are both rescues. Don’t be ridiculous

It's not "unseasonably hot". It's summer

Miyagi99 · 30/07/2024 15:59

He needs an air fryer!

PuddlesPityParty · 30/07/2024 15:59

You’re not suppose to put cold or freezing towels on your dogs in hot weather!!!! Do your research instead of acting like you and you alone are correct!!

You are being ridiculous and hysterical. Don’t even bother with the “hysterical is misogynistic” because in this case it’s absolutely true.

PuddlesPityParty · 30/07/2024 15:59

If your oven has heated up the whole house that much then something’s wrong with it. I have a range cooker too and it doesn’t do that.

BobbyBiscuits · 30/07/2024 16:01

He's using the stove to make a fry up, or cooking it in the oven? I guess it's foolish and wasteful of energy in summer to run the full oven for one persons meal that could be cooked in a pan on stove top? Otherwise he does need to eat. You can't just blanket ban the cooking or eating of hot food just bc it's summer.
Buy an extra fan or a portable Aircon unit if the heat is bothering you.
Could he buy an air fryer for his 'fry ups'?

Wanttobefree2 · 30/07/2024 16:01

26’c isn’t that hot at all, your dogs will be fine, if they overheat they will pant like they are designed to do.

Flossflower · 30/07/2024 16:02

SharpOliveHam · 30/07/2024 13:50

My poor dogs have thick, long coats that cannot be shaved. Double coated.

Well you, along with many other people, are being silly having dogs like this unless you live in the artic.
I was at the beach at the weekend and saw someone at the beach with a husky!!

You're telling me not to be ridiculous 🤣🤣

Have you met you?!

And no it's not ridiculous to expect responsible dog owners to choose dogs based on their needs.
If you can't meet their needs without this ridiculousness then you have failed

KeirSpoutsTwaddle · 30/07/2024 16:03

@SharpOliveHam II’m with you but apparently we’re in the minority.

We don’t use ‘hot’ cooking methods in these temperatures. Luckily we all suffer from heat so are generally on side with it.

We use the instant pot a lot, the microwave, and eat cold food. Creating unnecessary heat during a heat wave is selfish and short sighted.

Gitfeatures · 30/07/2024 16:04

Your level of rage is probably responsible for at least 2C of the temperature increase.

How much heat do you seriously think putting the oven on for a bit causes? 🙄

TravelInsuranceQ · 30/07/2024 16:05

You seem to be getting a hard time on here
I'm with you though - I really suffer from the heat as do our pets so if the other person in the house was to use the oven on such a warm day I would be pissed off too.
Luckily he uses the airfryer most of the time anyway (and he's pretty considerate and not selfish like your H)
Maybe you need a more efficient way of cooking: a range cooker on for 40 mins for a fry up does sound pretty inefficient....
