Controlling for being angry at DH using oven

SharpOliveHam · 30/07/2024 13:32

Dh likes to eat healthily which means he never fries any food. Even the 1 cal spray is not acceptable. Fine.

But DH knows I’m very funny about the heat. Hate it and do very well to keep a cool house. I’m the person who goes around closing curtains, opening windows at the optimal time to keep things cool.

Just got off a work call to a sauna downstairs. DH has made himself a fry up (chicken sausages, egg, mushrooms, tomatoes). The kitchen is reading 26c - it was 22.5c when I looked at around 12 pm.

I told dh that this was really selfish behaviour. And now I’ve been called controlling.

AIBU?

Get an air fryer.

Doneit555 · 30/07/2024 15:08

i can’t believe your husband won’t use 1 cal
spray oil and uses the oven without your permission honestly OP you can’t live like this anymore he sounds so toxic

tinkertailorsoldierpie · 30/07/2024 14:24

OP once she's got the temperature just right.

I doubt he's allowed to open the fridge or run the cold tap in the winter in case it makes the house too cold 🙄

Contraryjane · 30/07/2024 15:09

Move up North.

meatyryvita · 30/07/2024 15:10

OP, I think you need a Magnum and a cool drink.

SharpOliveHam · 30/07/2024 14:00

I live in England. It is perfectly mild enough for my dogs except for a handful of days a year. And I do very well to keep them cool on unseasonably hot days.

They are both rescues. Don’t be ridiculous

I have double costed dogs and I don’t put ice towels on them. You are very odd OP. And your behaviour is very controlling. Look at the poll to see how many people disagree with your approach. Oh and I’m currently in the south of France and it’s 40 degrees here. Mid twenties is nothing to worry about.

Gilead · 30/07/2024 15:10

You came in looking for support for your (really quite unpleasant) behaviour and have stood your ground relentlessly despite everybody saying you’re wrong. Give yourself a shake, shrug your shoulders and try to be a bit more normal. I actually feel quite sorry for your Dh.

saraclara · 30/07/2024 15:11

If you have cool mats but the dogs won't use them, then the dogs aren't feeling too hot.

94% of us think you're controlling and unreasonable, so I'm not sure why you still think that you're not.

MitskiMoo · 30/07/2024 15:11

Is this a humble brag because you have a range cooker? You know they aren't hotter than a 'normal' one?? Thank goodness you don't have my aga. 😁

elm26 · 30/07/2024 15:11

I think this is a wind up.

If DH told me I couldn't use the oven because it was a hot day, I'd laugh at him and put the oven on. Very bizarre, controlling behaviour if this is true.

Better still, buy a couple of air con units and save yourself the hassle of running around with cold towels, opening and closing windows and curtains, pulling paddling pools out etc 🙄

Gymnopedie · 30/07/2024 15:11

I’m not telling him he can’t use it but I’m calling him out on being selfish.

Well that's a contradiction right there.

And stop it with the towels. They'll stay cold for all of a minute. Then they'll turn into a blanket - you know, the sort you would throw off on a warm night? Would you want someone to insist that you kept it on?

Onehotday · 30/07/2024 15:11

That poor man.

viques · 30/07/2024 15:12

SharpOliveHam · 30/07/2024 13:39

I had a ham sad for lunch precisely so I didn’t heat up house.

Im the one running around throwing frozen cold towels on dogs.

Stop running around, you will only get hotter, walk calmly, you will feel better for it.

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 30/07/2024 15:12

Do you have issues with anxiety OP? The hottest part of the day is after 12pm so the kitchen was going to get warmer regardless. You can’t police what someone eats in their own home

GingerPirate · 30/07/2024 15:13

EllyGi · 30/07/2024 15:06

I'm I the minority. We also avoid using the oven in hot days for the same reason as you so I would be annoyed if anyone bakes something in the heat, it makes the temp in the house unbearable.

Yes, it's hot in the kitchen here too!
Personally I don't think my oven would make it that much worse.
I'm "old school", dinner is gonna be very fuss free, but if my husband expressed a wish for a super hot meal, I'd take care of it myself. 😁
As posters say, life is quite short to get angry about such things.

Nannyfannybanny · 30/07/2024 15:13

It's not a fry up if it was cooked in the oven..you shouldn't soak dogs in very cold water,it's bad for them..it causes blood vessels to narrow and then they overheat.my kitchen/conservatory which is NE facing is 31.6 ATM,so the doors are open and we have both an air cooler and a portable air conditioning unit, that will be used later..

AgileMentor · 30/07/2024 15:14

Jesus Christ the man was hungry made himself something to eat and then had to deal with your bollocks.

Miffylou · 30/07/2024 15:14

SharpOliveHam · 30/07/2024 13:35

Im doing everything in my power to keep the house cool. Not only for me but for dogs and he has just undone everything

An extra 3.5 degrees is hardly earth-shattering. You are being completely controlling and unreasonable. Give the dogs a shower. Have one yourself. Buy a fan. It’s summer but DH is still allowed to cook a meal he wants in his own home.

Shinyandnew1 · 30/07/2024 15:15

YABU! I presume it’s his house, too!

TinkerTiger · 30/07/2024 15:15

Sleepersausage · 30/07/2024 13:34

Are you insane? Buy a fan

This? even if we dont have soaring temps of nearly 40, we always get a few hot days EVERY year. It's can't be a surprise by now.

RB68 · 30/07/2024 15:15

CAlling it controlling is taking it too far. I would call him inconsiderate as he clearly gave no thought to the impact what he was doing would have. I think the manner in which he is asked to try and keep the dogs cool by minimising use of heating equipment makes a difference. Making it clearly about the dogs and the cost of having to use the vets if animals overheat and get ill and not to mention the cruelty is the issue at hand here.

But also yes maybe look at solutions rather than slinging insults.

Maybe OP should change her nickname to Goldilocks eh? Poor guy!

More surface area was my only point

NotThatWitty · 30/07/2024 15:18

Poor dogs being chased around with frozen towels. My own double-coated dog would hate me if I threw something that cold over her.

I'd be more annoyed if my DH made a whole fry-up and didn't at least put on a couple of extra sausages and some eggs for me.

RB68 · 30/07/2024 15:19

in terms of dogs we bought a cool mat which is triggered by the heat /weight of the dogs body and the dogs love them (Black Labs). We have utilised some paddling in back garden under a canopy and only engaging them in play/games in am or later pm.

We have an always on cooker which does make the kitchen warmer but is also well insulated, the dogs still like the cool of the tiles in the kitchen and as others have said only for a few days
