Controlling for being angry at DH using oven

SharpOliveHam · 30/07/2024 13:32

Dh likes to eat healthily which means he never fries any food. Even the 1 cal spray is not acceptable. Fine.

But DH knows I’m very funny about the heat. Hate it and do very well to keep a cool house. I’m the person who goes around closing curtains, opening windows at the optimal time to keep things cool.

Just got off a work call to a sauna downstairs. DH has made himself a fry up (chicken sausages, egg, mushrooms, tomatoes). The kitchen is reading 26c - it was 22.5c when I looked at around 12 pm.

I told dh that this was really selfish behaviour. And now I’ve been called controlling.

AIBU?

If I said all of this to my husband he would think I had lost my mind!

What the hell on Earth.

Leave the man alone.

Oh and I have a cocker spaniel so no matter what I do to keep the house cool, she has no chill. The dogs will be fine

TerfTalking · 30/07/2024 14:22

Maybe it wasn’t the oven. If you have more than one hot dog in the kitchen then maybe their body heat and panting has caused it to rise.

That and your heated rant at DH 😄

MonsteraMama · 30/07/2024 14:23

SharpOliveHam · 30/07/2024 14:18

I’m annoyed because the house is now warmer than it needed to be for the rest of the day. Yesterday it hit 29c here. I managed to keep the house below 23c.

All because one person fancied a fry up.

The whole house? From having the oven on for what, half an hour?

Do you live in a metal box?

GingerPirate · 30/07/2024 14:23

Yes, you are.
I have a problem with heat, my significantly older husband has problem with cold.
It might be uncomfortable for a while, but we both do our best to accommodate the needs of the other, after 20 years.

Lilacapples · 30/07/2024 14:23

Omg I’ve read some stuff on here but this takes the biscuit 😂😂

BorisJohnsonsWigGlue · 30/07/2024 14:23

You're controlling and probably abusive if this is true.

Go outside and touch some grass.

Cherrysoup · 30/07/2024 14:23

YABU and you know it. It was a lot cooler at 10 when I took the dog to a completely in the shade walk along the river than at 12. I’ve kept the curtains closed in most rooms so it’s reasonable for the other dog on cage rest. Why on earth shouldn’t your Dh eat whatever he likes?

getmeouttahere2019 · 30/07/2024 14:24

Wow.
Almost 200 posts here telling you that yes YABU and yet you're still insisting that you're not!
Why did you even post? You didn't get the validation for your controlling behaviour that you expected, so you come back with more validation of why you think you're in the right?!
Instead perhaps take heed of the majority here and listen to what they are telling you.
YABVU.
I'm surprised your DH puts up with your ridiculousness.

Polarnight · 30/07/2024 14:24

I'd leave you. Dogs live wild in countries way hotter than this and somehow they survive.

You sound as if you need help.

Wishimaywishimight · 30/07/2024 14:24

I can just see the husband rolling his eyes and saying "For fuck's sake..." Hope he at least enjoyed his fry/oven-up.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 30/07/2024 14:24

You're being very OTT and a bit of a martyr about the freezing towels and paddling pool tbh. You realise that people living in hotter countries still have and use ovens?

tinkertailorsoldierpie · 30/07/2024 14:24
Mr Freeze GIF

OP once she's got the temperature just right.

SharpOliveHam · 30/07/2024 14:02

The kitchen is now 26c according to hive. I checked at around 12 pm and it was nowhere near that.

I just went and touched range and it is scolding to the touch still. The kitchen was lovely and cool for the dogs and now it is the hottest room in the house.

Unless you have an AGA or something, then no, your oven is not going to be hot to the touch or be able to heat up a room by 4 degrees, because the point of an oven is that the heat stays in it. A normal oven does not heat a room up to any significant degree because that would be a massive waste of energy.

If you do have an AGA, then you need to get rid of it because you clearly don't want one.

Sera1989 · 30/07/2024 14:25

But what would happen if you weren't home? Surely the dogs would not die of heat exhaustion and your possessions would not melt. I would suggest buying a fan for the dogs, letting your poor DH have a bit of fun, sitting in the paddling pool yourself and thinking of something else to martyr yourself over. As you've said, there are only a few boiling hot days per year!

TinyGingerCat · 30/07/2024 14:25

Save the frozen towels for cooling your own slightly bonkers head - your thoughts might be more ordered if your blood pressure is lower. I can't believe what I've just read.

AbigailisPartiedOut · 30/07/2024 14:26

I mean I'm sure this post has to be a wind up but if it's not, leave your poor dogs alone they can find somewhere cool themselves. Mine has been in and out of the garden all day, she'll sunbathe until she's too hot then find somewhere cool for a bit. Then rinse and repeat with a bit of destroying a stuffed toy to break the day up! Get a bloody grip woman.

Momtotwokids · 30/07/2024 14:26

You sound unhinged. Your poor husband, he can't eat what he wants because your house will be to warm for the dogs for 15 minutes.

getmeouttahere2019 · 30/07/2024 14:27

And please never ever put frozen or even cold towels over double coated dogs.
A TEPID towel is what is needed otherwise you're just trapping the heat in

Starlight1979 · 30/07/2024 14:27

MonsteraMama · 30/07/2024 14:23

The whole house? From having the oven on for what, half an hour?

😂

Runnerinthenight · 30/07/2024 14:28

Dear god all for the sake of a few degrees!! Bonkers behaviour, totally anal. I feel sorry for your DH!

Mymanyellow · 30/07/2024 14:28

Well I’m with op. Luckily I live on my own no way am I putting the oven or hob on. Especially not at noon the hottest part of the day.

MrsKeats · 30/07/2024 14:29

You are being ridiculous.
And dogs don't need ice blankets when it's 24 degrees Confused

Bluebirdover · 30/07/2024 14:29

@SharpOliveHam what's for dinner tonight.....

Maybe a full roast?

Milkmani8 · 30/07/2024 14:29

Get rid of the dogs, get rid of the husband and buy yourself one of those ‘ice rooms’ to sit in. Honestly this is unreal 😂

Dozycuntlaters · 30/07/2024 14:29

YABU massively.

However, and I'm sure someone will have mentioned this, but it is not a good idea to put a freezing towel on the dog. It actually makes them warmer as it keeps the heat in, so I wouldnt be doing that anymore. Just buy a squirty bottle and give them the odd squirt.

But yes, it is controlling to be cross that your DH has used the oven and I really cannot imagine using oven would heat the whole house by 4 degrees.
