on holiday at the mo and I cant even count the number of times I have seen topless women sunbathing at the beach… next to kids!…on non-nudist beach!

I really don’t want to see titties out in the middle of the day

on top of that I don’t fancy my teenage boys or even my DH having a look at them either

its obvious they’re coming from certain European countries ! Do they have no sense of what’s right or wrong ?

OP, I wouldn’t want to see bare breasts on the beach either, but that seems to be the culture where you are, and it looks like you’re going to have to live with it if you want to keep going to the beach while you’re there.

My question wasn't about legality but about sensibilities. If body parts are just body parts, why would an erect dick bother you? Why stop at topless sunbathing?

The point I'm trying to make is that (a) we expect sexual behaviour and sexuality to be kept private, and (b) breasts are sexual organs, in addition to their other/primary function.

Most people understand this very well. It's only a select few who pretend breasts aren't sexual or bodies are not 'shameful' (ie don't need to be covered up at all).

You're confused about appropriate sexual behaviour. Someone masturbating in public, man or woman, is behaving inappropriately and that's an offence. People having coitus in public are also being inappropriate and it's illegal. Sexual harassment and assault is also an offence.

A woman on a beach topless is not an offence as long as it's deemed appropriate in that culture.

This made me laugh, especially as I’d said a similar thing about myself, but I just want to point out, that I hope I haven’t offended anyone by saying it’s for reproductive reasons - I am a very small chested lady (who managed to breastfeed!) and I didn’t develop till very late, so when I talk about reproductive reasoning I am talking about breast tissue in general, not suggesting that size has any relation to the ability to bear and feed children!

There is nothing wrong with breasts, nor is there a need to cover them on the beach. I was born in the UK where "t*ts" were frequently seen by children. They use them for feeding. By the way you can say tits on here. MN is an adult site.

I was born in the UK, brought up in France (due to dad's job). From teens onwards (40s now) topless was the norm. Same with mum! Men don't have to cover their tops up, it's an equality issue, why should we? If people can't cope with it, they have a major problem.

Not quite the same thing but appreciate the effort. I’m talking about the beach full stop, not beach vs home. People have been saying breasts aren’t sexual at all, so if they would go topless in front of other fathers / sons but not their own, why? What’s their reasoning? A real question that I’d genuinely like to know the answer to.

TBF, I didn't breastfeed in front of my dad a second time after his reaction the first time, but that was because generally he's quite modern and so I made an allowance for his bonkersness (that and we were all bottlefed so he hasn't seen natural infant feeding).

I'm damned if I'm going to make an exception for every man I meet.

It would be quite efficient if we could break the taboo by BFing in front of each others dad's and that way cover the whole population without the added complication of "OMG it's my daughter's breasts".

I'm Scottish and happily and regularly sunbathe topless when we're on holiday in Greece . If others have a problem with that, that's their problem and I don't give a fuck
