To not want to see t*ts on the beach??!

1000 replies

TittiesOutPutThemBack · 30/07/2024 12:34

Just that really!

on holiday at the mo and I cant even count the number of times I have seen topless women sunbathing at the beach… next to kids!…on non-nudist beach!

I really don’t want to see titties out in the middle of the day

on top of that I don’t fancy my teenage boys or even my DH having a look at them either

its obvious they’re coming from certain European countries ! Do they have no sense of what’s right or wrong ?

And I bet you’d all be ok with your 17yo taking boobs out in front of family or friends in a holiday

Of course I would. As a matter of fact I have been sunbathing topless at the beach from time to time for my whole life (including this morning). And if my daughters did so too that would be fine by me.

brightonrock123456789 · 30/07/2024 13:51

I mean, if you can’t beat them, join them

Ponderingwindow · 30/07/2024 13:52

Are there men without shirts? Are you upset about them?

we can’t hold men and women to different standards, even if we have been conditioned by society to do so.

RisingSunn · 30/07/2024 13:18

Well then on a hot day…why don’t teenage girls walk into Sainsbury’s topless?

Edited

The harassment they‘d have to deal with might be a key factor. Or are you genuinely trying to pretend that this wouldn’t be an issue?

Most people luckily don’t go to Sainsbury’s in their swimwear. So how is that imaginary scenario even relevant? Or even remotely comparable?

Thank you.

I’m just tired of explaining our culture to people, even though it’s such a similar culture in many ways.

I’m Danish. While mixed public nudity isn’t extremely common in my experience, single sex nudity is really common, eg changing rooms, saunas etc.

It’s not right or wrong, but having lived in other cultures, I can see a couple of benefits:

  • Females from a young age (and males too) have seen a wide range of naked bodies of all ages. They have a better grasp of what’s ‘normal’ and better body confidence. They know that bodies in media and porn are outliers, not standard, and compare themselves less harshly
  • Because mixed nudity is also somewhat normal, eg skinny dipping with friends (most people have done it), people don’t see the opposite sex just as objects, boys know what normal naked women look like. Not every action that involves showing some skin equals sexual to them. Whereas foreign young men (well, British and American mostly) equal seeing any functional body part as being seduced

I’m still sometimes having to remind myself that I need to be more modest in Britain as so many non-sexual actions are interpreted as sexual here and mixed-sex socialising is less acceptable. And when my mum visits I need to police her as she thinks something like getting changed on the beach is ok!

Every country has their own cultural norms.

Scandinavian people generally fall in line in Britain and don’t force everyone to eat cinnamon buns or get their tits out. If it was Britain they’d be covered up if they knew what was ok and what wasn’t.

While it’s easy to judge a culture, I really wish people would give a little more thought to the background of some cultural practices. We aren’t a nation of attention seeking tit flashers, our concept of nudity is entirely different.

Mixed sex socialising is less acceptable? That's an interesting observation and one I haven't heard before.

Why the asterisks?

Did you mean aster*sks?

OP doesn't want to see tits so has censored her "i"s

Mondaysocial · 30/07/2024 13:44

Breasts very clearly are sexual objects. There is no need for the large, firm flesh part around our nipples (the breast). Other mammals don't really have this. We have it as it is a signal of sexual maturity. And men find signals of sexual maturity arousing, for obvious reasons.

Oh well that proves it then.

Nosleepforthismum · 30/07/2024 13:54

I was sunbathing topless on family holidays at 16. My mum did it and most other women at the beach did it and I didn’t want any tan lines. It’s a complete non issue.

ZiriForGood · 30/07/2024 13:55

Mondaysocial · 30/07/2024 13:40

See, I have never believed the 'oh we are all natural and there's nothing sexual about naturism.' Men are sexually attracted to naked women, particularly younger and attractive women. Of course naturism is a sexual experience for men!

BTW, I am not making an argument here against women going topless - I'm not expressing an opinion on that at all.

But lets not pretend that men will not be sexually aroused by the sight of nakedness in women.

There is a feeling of freedom naked swimming can bring. Some people just really don't like having wet textiles on them. Neither of that is about sexuality. It doesn't mean other people can't have a kick, just that it isn't the only explanation.

I am not personally keen on bigger naturist areas, thought as I am getting older I can imagine using them abroad, but finding a secluded spot feels good.

Mmmm19 · 30/07/2024 13:55

Have you not been on a European hot/beach holiday before OP? This is very normal - including some British people - I’ve seen it pk holidays since 1980s up to this year. I’ve also seen pics of my mum doing it in the 70s. It’s not for me but also doesn’t bother me. I find it more odd when people walk around town/supermarket just in their swimwear

Bromptotoo · 30/07/2024 13:55

TittiesOutPutThemBack · 30/07/2024 13:31

Ok …. Cyprus !

Thanks. I'm not surprised that it's somewhere like there or Spanish speaking islands in either the Med or the Atlantic.

Last time I was in a place with a Greek culture etc was Corfu in 1982. I think, though I spent most of the time laid up with a tummy upset, that women, this was definitely an 18-30 place, were asked to keep their boobs fettered out of sensitivity to local culture.

Probably not the case now though.

I'm very much in the camp that says exposed boobs are part of holiday life and that if your'e bothered you own the problem. Perhaps your DH could have a word with his sons about it?

I do have a vague memory of being around 15/16 on the French Med coast, not the posh bit!, and being somewhat aroused French lassies of similar age skimpy bathing suits.

Putting · 30/07/2024 13:56

I’d welcome being forced to eat cinnamon buns tbf

Carebearsonmybed · 30/07/2024 13:56

Why such hatred of women's bodies?

AllThePotatoesAreSinging · 30/07/2024 13:56

RisingSunn · 30/07/2024 13:30

Because in my earlier post (to me) breast are a private area of a woman’s body.

So you think that’s fine for a teenage daughter to be having a conversation with her uncle for (for example) topless?

Yes, absolutely. Because if I was worried about her uncle being sexually attracted to her, that’s a completely different issue. A nipple wouldn’t suddenly create that problem.

They're literally just breasts, there is no need for drama. You can choose not to stare if they bother you.

You can also use it as an opportunity to teach your sons 1) not to ogle women and 2) that different parts of the world have different customs and attitudes to nudity, and that if it offends you it is your responsibility to only travel to places where the prevailing attitude is line with your own, rather than making sweeping and judgmental statements about people behaving in line with the customs of the country they are in.

This sums it up perfectly.

Beljin · 30/07/2024 13:58

NCfor24 · 30/07/2024 12:39

You don't have to look. It's just another body part after all.
I don't sunbathe topless and I think it's polite to pop a bikini top or t-shirt on when walking about, but lying down minding their own business...not an issue at all.
I don't think it a matter of what's right or wrong!

Might be good for your teenage boys to understand boobs are just another body part and not there for sexual titillation.

There's this weird universe feminists seem to inhibit where sexuality doesn't exist. Nudity has no sexual element or pull, genitals are just for peeing, breasts are just another body part like ears etc.

Of course if men no more than glance at a semi-nude woman, especially an attractive one, they're pervs. Not simply men who are biologically wired that way with every natural instinct telling them to do so.

Back in the real world though, sexuality is a thing. Males are biologically wired to impregnate as many females as possible, which in practice means where there is naked flesh, men will at least steal glances. Amd some body parts have dual purposes, one of those being sexual attraction.

We can and should teach men to behave respectfully towards women, but let's not pretend sexuality and desire doesn't exist.

cupcaske123 · 30/07/2024 14:00

@Beljin

Men and women are sexual beings and I'm sure both steal glances at each other. What's your point?

Havanananana · 30/07/2024 14:00

"as I said they can do whatever they want but in a separate area!"

Actually, there is a separate area of the planet reserved for those who do not want to see relaxed, mature people sunbathing topless (and doing lots of other perfectly natural things). It is conveniently close to most of the UK.

To not want to see t*ts on the beach??!

Some probably do and are probably attracted to naturism for that reason, but not all. The naked rambler for example, who walks entirely alone, is likely not doing it because he wants to see a bit of boob. Erections have multiple causes, they aren’t all caused due to arousal.

Sure there can be other causes for sexual arousal but trying to pretend that men with semi's on naturism beaches are not aroused is stretching credibility too far.

In fact it reminds me of an article I read on naked yoga, which explained that Naked yoga is has an unusual clientele in that clothed yoga classes are heavily dominated by women, whereas naked yoga has more men that women, and the (female) yoga teachers have to try and entice women to come (perhaps calling on favours amongst friends) or the men will stop coming. In the article the teacher reported having men phoning to check women would be at the class or they would not come.
The teacher started the class by reassuring the men that if they got an erection that was just a release of energy due to the yoga, and nothing to be self-conscious about,. Yeah right.

Bumblebeestiltskin · 30/07/2024 12:48

Incorrect, I'm pan. Imagine how much of a fluster I must get in on the beach 🙃😂 Good job I'm able to control myself in public.

I have a lot of self control thank you. It doesn't mean that breasts are not sexually attractive items though, which is what others are claiming!

dutysuite · 30/07/2024 14:03

It would make me feel violated getting my tits out and allowing men I don’t know have a good look at them…for free.

Mondaysocial · 30/07/2024 14:03

AllThePotatoesAreSinging · 30/07/2024 13:54

Why do you think humans have evolved to have breasts like that then?

I didn’t say that. I said erections have many causes, they aren’t always arousal. Which is a fact. Men have erections for all sorts of reasons, just because they have one doesn’t necessarily mean they’re aroused.

Same as nipples become erect for a variety of reasons. Just because my nipples are ever, it doesn’t mean I’m necessarily turned on. I might be, but I also might be cold,
have a rubbing bra, have been (non-sexually) tickled by something.
